I think a childish game is one with the EC rating, based off a kid's show like spongebob, or something that the other ages can't really enjoy.
So a game like Mario I don't consider childish, because everyone likes Mario (and -- most, if not all, Mario game are rated E, and they aren't spongebob type games). :D
A game is childish if it is rated E and on a Nintendo console, apparently. The cows are quick to call Mario games kiddy but forget about LittleBigPlanet, which is, apparently, "teh mature" since it is on a Sony console.-The-G-Man-
i forgot about that  that game just looks worst than what i seen on a nintendo console
1 dimensional characters who are put into the same situation in every level. No character development exists in kiddie games the majority of the time, you just take the characters at face value. This becomes especially more kiddie when they star in numerous games yet all you know about them is that they are "good" or "evil". For me personally, that is what makes a game kiddie. HellsAngel2c
A wonderful start. Let me expand on this a bit:
Childishness occurs because the ideas within the game are so grossly simplified and astranged from the reality of the human experience (even humans in sci-fi and fantasy settings) that only the most naieve and innocent person would value the content for more than what it is. Crude facts of life -- for example, in Pokemon, team rocket should simply slit the throat of Ash in his sleep and steal his Pokemon -- are not even concievable in the game's universe; the plot and structure of the world lacks meaning, depth, and complexity that should naturally come to any work of media which should be acknowledged as a mature and meaningful experience.
The definition changes somewhat when we consider games that are less about ideas and more about accomplishing some sort of neautral visual function (sports games, for example).
Certain facets of the game design -- its cartoony and "buy them all" mentality -- are explicitly marketed around the demands of children. The merchandising and sales strategies employed are designed specifically to grasp the attention of children.
All games are childish...I guess..you got to use your imagination somewhat to enjoy video games even if the world is created for you. But, there are games meant to be for children onry. I can't think of any right now because, fortunately, there aren't many of them. majadamus
I disagree. Nothing about gaming makes it origonally more childish than any other form of media.
