I have a real guitar. I learned something from the experience. I suck at real guitars.

That is a weak argument though. I like playing FPS games, but I am not about to go out and join the military to do it for real...

We play games as an escape from reality, where as in many cases we could just do the real thing. But that defeats the purpose of playing the games.

I have only the one game, Guitar Hero 3, and playing it at anything higher than medium difficulty always ends up with me sitting down at the Piano. For the higher difficulties, you actually have to memorize the songs, so why not do it on a real instrument, it's not that much harder.

What you don't have to memorize songs.. I play at expert and I can beat almost all songs playing them the first time.

A portion of a Rolling Stone interview with Slash...

RS: Has the huge success of Guitar Hero boosted your rep even further?

Slash: Yeah, but the flip-side of that is I met this kid who came up to me and was blown away by the fact I was the guy in the Guitar Hero game, and he kept going on about that. Ten minutes later he goes, "Do you play real guitar?"

I haven't really played one, and I'm not interested to do so... because aren't they kind of DDR clones i.e. pressing the right button at the right time whilst hearing some music?

Ok. I like playing Mario games. I am not going to go out and start jumping around. Racing games and real life racing, etc.

We play games as an escape from reality, where as in many cases we could just do the real thing. But that defeats the purpose of playing the games.

-_-' your missing my point though, that playing the real thing is easy and accessable....and FUN. going by your examples i can't see myself enjoying jumping around as much as i would in a mario game, nor is it accessable for me to respawn in WW2 time after time.

Also it doent matter if you're not great at playing the guitar, hell neither am i. but i can still enjoy it more that playing some scripted songs by hitting some plastic buttons.

The real thing is easy to some. I find playing the guitar to be excruciatingly hard and not fun at all. Its all in how dexterous you are with your fingers.

I love them and I've tried guitar and I can't see myself putting that much time into learning it. After like 10 minutes my hands hurts and reading music while is a lot harder on guitar than piano or trumpet.

I've stated for a while that I won't touch these games until I can import my own songs instead of having to play to their bad tastes. Which, since they won't allow this feature cause they are too greedy, they won't have my business.

RB and GH rape the soul, creativity, artistic beauty out of music,i would rather much see kids picking up an instrument than play this game...much like how i see ipods as raping music.looking at a computer screen on your' mp3 player isnt the same as holding a 12" record in your hand and looking at the art layout.

but what do i know?.i'm a elitist snob that collects vinyl, and makes noise projects on a 4-track in my basement. )

i like them, but i would never buy one of them. there are not nearly enough songs to satisfy me. what they need to do is build a game where you put songs in and it creates in game button things for it.

I.E. audiosurf but in guitar hero style. that game i would buy, because i could play an endless amount of songs and never get bored playing the same songs over and over.

i would say that's a bit extreme. some people are not good at real instruments, and this is a way to equalize it. would you rather have 3 year olds reading salvador dali and neil gaiman? not everyone is good at playing an instrument and you have to respect that.

and ipods ruining music? they have only made music more accessible to everyone.

i feel your pain brother. i hate those games with a passion.

ppl should try REAL music creation instead of that crap. i dont see whats so good about those games. wow you press the buttons that appear on screen.....big deal!

im sure there is more to it which is why ppl find it fun etc but for me.....meh
