RB and GH rape the soul, creativity, artistic beauty out of music,i would rather much see kids picking up an instrument than play this game...much like how i see ipods as raping music.looking at a computer screen on your' mp3 player isnt the same as holding a 12" record in your hand and looking at the art layout.

but what do i know?.i'm a elitist snob that collects vinyl, and makes noise projects on a 4-track in my basement. )

i would say that's a bit extreme. some people are not good at real instruments, and this is a way to equalize it. would you rather have 3 year olds reading salvador dali and neil gaiman? not everyone is good at playing an instrument and you have to respect that.

and ipods ruining music? they have only made music more accessible to everyone.

if i had a kid,he'd be reading those at age 2!...

but seriously,a guitar isnt THAT hard to learn.the only limit really,is your' imagination, besides you dont have to be frank zappa to play guitar,i mean look at the stooges, black flag,Ramones, and all the Punk/hardcore bands of the 70's and 80's..they played the same three chords over and over, yet made amazing music...like i said the only limit is your creativity and imagination..

and yeah..maybe ipods have brought music to a wider audience and all,but at the same time its also destroying it.one of my favorite record stores in buffalo NY got closed down not too long ago because ofthis crap.

and i dont know about you..but i dont want the future of music resulting in shuffling through songs on a ******* winamp/ipod instead of the beauty of having a record collection,or perhaps going to a record store..holding the album in your hand,as well as socializing with the people there (getting a number off a cute indie/bohemian girl with big boobs busting out of her' flannel shirt)

While I don't have any issue with iPods in terms of "raping" music (I still buy CDs for the inserts), I agree about Rockband and Guitar Hero. I absolutely hate both games, for two reasons: 1) If I wanted to invest time and effort into making music with a musical instrument-like device, I'd simply play an instrument, and 2) the entire concept of both games boils down to hitting a button in rhythm. I don't deny the appeal of the games, and I have no problem with people who like them, but I don't buy videogames simply to play "Simon Says" on my plasma. I'd much rather the industry went away from casual games like Wii Fit, Singstar, GH and RB, but unfortunately they're all simple enough and appeal to broad enough demographics that there's no way they won't be successful. So instead of meticulously crafted games and take time to truly get into, nowadays we're mostly stuck with games that play exactly the same 60 hours into playing as they do right when you pick them up.

I used to, but after I beat Rock Band and Guitar Hero II on Expert, and then couldn't beat Lou on Hard, I just gave up and haven't really played since unless I'm drunk and at a friends house.

I can understand not being into these games, but why the hate? Making music takes a lot of practice, skill, and some natural creativity that most people just don't have. There's absolutely no comparison between GH or RB and picking up a real guitar and learning to play. I've never owned one of these games but I've had some good times playing them at parties and I have no interest in learning to play a real guitar. The fact that people with no musical ability (like my twelve year old niece or my 50 year old uncle) can play these games is what makes them so popular. I guess I just don't see any reason think they are "ruining" anything, seems to me like more people would give the real thing a try after they try the games.

Most overrated games i swear.. people need to just go out and learn how to use a real instrument.

I really like it but they're more fun multiplayer than single player. I used to play GH almost everyday before but now I just pick it up once in a while. I tried learning how to play a real guitar before but that kinda failed >__> I suck at real guitar.

It's fun with family or friends but not really by yourself unless it's one of your favorite bands, at least in my case.
