I wanted to see what people's thoughts were on this. I mean don't get me wrong it could rate up there as one of the best games of all time, but I mean lets look at this way. Sure its going to be great to play it on a next gen system, because the graphics will be improved, map sizes, and missions. But if you really look at it aren't we going to be playing the samething that we have been playing sense the original GTA? I'm going to be looking forward to playing it on the 360 with the achievements and what not. But I mean isn't just going to be the same deal go out in a mission kill this guy, steal this object, don't be seen, stay far behind this guy. I just dont know, I think that it will be fun but it will get boring really quick. I mean how much longer can you sit there, and just steal cars and blow things up over and over again and still call it fun. Thoughts?

I'm not that excited either for GTA4 or Halo 3.

Tons more excited for MGS4.

I mean I will end up buying or renting GTA4 or Halo 3

But I am going to buy both Limited and Regular Editions of MGS4.

I'm not excited about it in the least. If it has some good multiplayer modes then I might get interested.

I'm lukewarm about GTA4 because it doesn't sound like it'll be the game San Andreas was.

I hyped for GTA4 because rockstar said they are using the extra power to really make a living city, which wasn't really there in the GTA3 series. More things on the sidewalks, more accessible buildings (on and inside builings) and a bigger single city. Still, SA kind of ruined the franchise a little. Vice city got me way hyped for SA, but SA was a bit of a downer. :(

I'm most hyped for Mass Effect and am not following either Halo 3 or GTA4, I will however check out new videos and sometimes look at previews and interviews.

Actually GTA4 is going to be very different from previous games in the series. You don't become extremely rich and own mansions, it's focus is 'survival in the city'. From the start it's up to you to decide everything. Events outside of the campaign will effect stuff. If you have to be at a certian spot at a certain time, you have to be there on time or you can't do the mission until later. You also can't carry a ton of weapons any more. I'd say this is going to be the most realistic game to date. So realistic, it's scary. I'm really looking forward to this game more than any other, especially Halo 3.

San Andreas to me was big and boring if it wasn't for the Harrier Jump Jet and Skydiving.

It just had vast stretches of land filled with nothing.

I hated both VC and SA, but just to be walking around in a living breathing video game version of NY has gotten me to preorder GTA4 for my 360

Ill play it no doubt but it's not up there with my favourite games the gta series is ok though, I prefer third and first person shooters myself, also chuck in a good jrpg and im luvin it, because its such a big game for the casuals all the fanboys want there system to be better than the other system, so a big deal is made out of it, The gta series has never been that great though its just become this big thing for braging rights in system wars

Come on can we really expect it to be that realistic?

Cops chase you for speeding? or running red lights? Cars run out of gas?

the gas is 4-5$ a gallon? Grrrrrr!!!!

You can kill children? :o

Run over dogs?

Storm hospitals and day care centers with a Uzi?

Set a church on fire?

Burn up a bus full of nuns?

Not that would be a scary game..............:o

Well... I agree in spirit, but you've failed on your research. GTA I & II were very different games, they were played from the overhead perspective, and were a bit more like Syndicate Wars in terms of balancing the gangs, et cetera. GTA III was the revolution for the series - taking it into the 3D FPS third-person "chase cam" view instead of overhead dramatically improved the gameplay, and just made the series more fun.

The problem with GTA IV is the same problem that plagued Vice City and San Andreas - it's the same game. If you enjoyed the "fetch", "eliminate", and "escort" quests - welcome to more of the same. For most people (myself included) the fun of the game was getting better weapons and going on sprees - the actual game itself is pretty shoddy. When you consider that Crackdown made the killing spree more fun than the limited "real person" GTA did, or that Oblivion let the hardcore "creative killer" go a lot further - well, there's not a lot left for GTA IV to do.

To set itself apart, GTA IV is going to have to do what GTA III, VC, and SA failed to do - stand more on storytelling, cinematics, and character development. Personally, I'm not so sure Rockstar can do that - I have never cared for anyone in their games beyond being another source of guns and ammo. I'm willing to give them teh benefit of the doubt, the hope that they can give this the intrigue that the source material (mafia movies) had based on strong characters, or this one is a pass.

I have never played any of the GTA "well besides the one on the PSP but for a very short amount of time" because I don't want my kids to play it. But I have never really cared because it did not look like something I would enjoy. But Manhunt looks good but I will not get that either because of my kids.. :(

Whoa, wait up. Rockstar already promised a great deal of change in GTA 4. As long as we haven't seen gameplay footage of it, we're not the ones to judge.

You guys have all valid points, I just think the game is going to be the same thing. I mean maybe if they allow to distroy some buildings or something that will be a cool addition. I dont know there is going to have to be a lot of convincing.

To tell you the truth when I got into the groove of playing Vice and Andreas.

I almost never killed people.

I flew around alot using the Airplane that lands of water and rocking out to the music of the 80's

same thing in Andreas Harrier Jump Jet was fun.

Whoa, wait up. Rockstar already promised a great deal of change in GTA 4. As long as we haven't seen gameplay footage of it, we're not the ones to judge.

A few changes doesn't mask the fact that it is, at heart, the same game we've been playing since GTA III. We're on the sixth game in the modern GTA line (3 on PS2 / Xbox, 2 on PSP) and the changes have only been incremental. Improving the graphics and changing "italian" to "black" to "russian" doesn't make a great difference to me. Rockstar promises me a living, breathing New York to act like a terrorist in - wonderful - but that's the same thing other sandbox games have been doing since then. Replace the italian mobster character with "superhero", "drug lord", or "black dude" and replace "New York" with "city / fantasy realm of your choice" and you have the genre down. The mass appeal of the game is running around like a lunatic, but I'm kinda done with that. It's like being drunk with friends "oh man, we should do this every friday, *hic* this is awesome!" - then you don't do it again for a year because you felt like crap the next day, and it's actually kinda lame / boring. Yeah, there are a few diehard frat boys who, I'm sure, would do that until the day they die - me? Not so much.

The sign of a good developer is knowing when to change. Bungie isn't making Halo 4 - they're making Halo Wars. Why? Pumping out Halo FPS after Halo FPS results in increasingly suckier products, no matter how talented they are at it. I've seen so much "non-linear free-roaming living-breathing-world" that I'm starting to crave a turn-based, linear game. After all - are we really fooled anymore? Sandbox is a nice term for "place with AI controlled characters who will all start to feel the same where you perform marginally interesting fetch quests".

The TC is right, GTA IV can't be what GTA III was, simply because we've already played GTA III - and the dozens of clones, since then.

Agree, personally I felt San Andreas was a huge step backwards from Vice City. I liked GTA3 the most, but I felt Vice city had a much better atmosphere. San Andreas just felt empty...
