The ODST one makes sense. You pay 100 bucks and get game and contoller, better deal the bought seperatly.

Yeah, the ODST one rocks. It's just the game and a badass controller with $10 sliced off. That's what I call a good Collector's Edition. Other good ones I have gotten this generation have been the BioShock one, Resistance 2, BlazBlue, and the the Oblivion's. Oh, and MGS4 because the cover is awesome.

I guess I kind of agree... There is really nothing special about them most of the time, and I tend to think anybody I see buying a special edition just because it has some cheap toy in it is a bean.

Artwork and developer comentary I can understand, but a spartans helmet? Bah...

Who's selling it?

Who cares about it's value on the open market?

I buy them because I want the stuff it comes with so I can have it, not what I can sell it for

What do I look like? A pawn shop?

I buy LE's when they come with things that I want. I couldn't care less if they went down in value or up.

Are you kidding me? Halo is a LEGEND! Although I personally don't love it, there were millions of copies of all halo's sold. It helped the FPS market become what it is today. If there were a mario head (size of halo helmet) that came out w/ the first mario games for nintendo they would be worth LOTS of money. Come back and see me in 20 years w/ that master chief helmet, than tell me it isn't worth anything.

As for some other games yes. But as a fan of a series, why wouldn't someone want to pay a few extra bucks for a nice souveneir or something else.

I don't buy games to resell them. I buy them to play them, and collect them.

My collection looks far nicer when I've got pretty additions to things, so I will pay an extra $5 or $10 to get that extra if I feel it's worth it to me.

Like Knights in the Nightmare. I missed out on getting Super Robot Taisen OG Saga with a music CD, and I can't locate it in any stores, and that CD was the best part, so I got Knights in the Nightmare with CD + artbook because I don't want to miss out on it later if I happen to really enjoy the game. It all came for the price of $35 new, so why not I guess. Other DS games cost that much without anything added.

Of course it would be, because back then no one would have bought it and there would only be a few hundred in circulation by now.

Value be damned, I buy them because I like what they offer.

Why do you buy anything at all? Because you like it.

Is it that hard to understand that people buy what they want, even if you don't get why they like it? I don't get why you care.

Well call me a sap! Don't get me wrong, the usless ones only serve the purpose of proving to the big-wig's that we as gamers are willing to pay too much for games. BUT, my vote doesn't count I'm just one guy it's all of you who are to blame and Renegade ed. of DJ Hero and Prestige ed. of MW2 are a callin me (NVG's, c'mon and that renegade turntable looks sweet.)

Usually I prefer getting special editions of games, but I also look at what bonuses comes with it before I decide to buy the product. If its something like blazblue's first edition copies where I get soundtracks and bonus videos, sure. And also MGS4's LE where it comes with making-of documentaries and interviews or even Resistance 2's SE which has artbooks, developer interviews, or action figures which I use to decorate my room with, I consider those worth the money. If its like the CoD WaW SE where you're only getting a lousy double xp weekend or that sort of crap, no way.

I learned my lesson after mass Effect. Although, Oblivion GOTY edition was great. Game + Add-ons. I guess that doesn't qualify as a "sepcial edition" but that's how you do it!

I only get special editions if they supply a good amount of stuff that I find useful with the game, and also to support a developer I like.

I generally like special editions, but they've been getting worse lately, especially for the extra price. I want more to play, not a useless piece of over-produced memorabilia.

Considering the $75 CAD I spent on Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence Limited Edition has grown in value to over $250 USD for an open used copy in about 3 years, I don't think they are for saps. Maybe the commercial "collector's editions" are, but true limited editions are usually a good investment.
