Not going to lie, I'm not the biggest Computer gamer. By far I've played my PS3 the most this gen. Yet more and more over the years I'm growing towards Computer gaming because of my laptop. Seems like most of System Wars when talking about Computer gaming seems to talk about having some huge massive tower to run Crysis three times at the same time over 4 monitors or something, yet my Laptops are what I find by far to be the best way to Computer game. The fact that I can take the power and games that I play and use on my PS3, even on something simple like my MacBook wherever I want is amazing. Yet what is even more amazing is the freeware, open source, indie, whatever, games that I can and do play constantly. Don't forget about exclusives either, even besides Blizzard (also Starcraft, Diablo, and Warcraft aren't exclusvies to anything), games like Stalker, SimCity and tons of others seem to be forgotten by most people nowadays. What do you guys think about Laptop gaming?

i totally agree. I think laptops are awesome and perfect for gaming on the go and having lan parties.I'm not one to care a whole lot for graphics, and valve games which i play the most, run nicely on most laptops. the only problem i have is updating drivers from manufacturer is kinda lame as they may not update for a while and going to the say graphics card company to dl drivers can prove to be really buggy

Laptops aren't meant for gaming. I can vouch for that.

*points to my dell inspiron that has had numerous fan/cpu problems because of gaming*

Luckily I have a pretty good desktop now, but geez, TF2 at like 26fps was not fun(was too lazy to lower settins).

I can go for about 5 hours on a typical FPS till I hit about 20% on my MacBook. Seems like more then enough for me.

I game mostly on my Macbook. It runs TF2, SC2, The Witcher and Stalker series beautifully. It definitely was not the reason I bought the machine to begin with but its a great boon to be able to play whatever game I may want at reasonable settings and resi wherever I please

I love this laptop at $800. would have preferred the 14, but it didn't make much since to put out $100 more for 1" less screen.1g Nvidia graphics that switch to the integrated chip set when not playing games, 4g ram, and i5.

To me, this is the best way to go if you want to own only 1 computer. You could get equal performance for less price w/ a comparable desktop, but it's worth it for the portability. Also, the battery doesn't suck partially because of the switchable graphics. I haven't tested it with Crysis or anything, but I've played Bioshock 2, Far Cry 2, Dragon Age (and Sim City 4 :p) completely maxed out, albeit, in 768. It did not run Civ5 that well, however. That puzzled me.

The next level for me would be $1,000 home built desktop + small $500ish 11-13" laptop.

Then buy something that doesn't suck that much, for that amount of money. Or don't fart on it or whatever makes it overheat for you.

Back then I would rather lag to death and have the graphics look nice(although they weren't maxed or anything). I was stupid.

But yeah, that Dell laptop sucked in general for gaming. Then again, I suppose that's more Dell's fault than laptops in general.

My Asus laptop runs PC games just fine for me. I need a laptop, so it makes more sense for me to invest in a high end laptop over a desktop, rather than both.

Well they're more expensive and for what you pay for them, you get less bang for your buck. Of course they're not that bad though. My brother got a $600 laptop and plays Fallout New Vegas on it fine, looks about as good (or better) than the console version.

I dislike the monitor being so close to the keyboard, and the keyboard being all flat :P Makes it completely unusable for me in any multiplayer game.

If I could get everything I want in a laptop, I'd definitely get one. It's been 5 years since I bought my last main computer, and after two 5-year periods of laptops, I"m going back to desktops. It's been a pain trying to upgrade and make due with small hard drives, faulty proprietary disc drives out of production and hard to get in good working condition, etc. I decided what I needed was upgradability, so this time I'm getting a full tower with plenty of room for upgrades.

However, a part of me inside would've rather have had a laptop instead. I think I might break down and buy an m11x this summer or something a little bigger with a disc drive.

But yeah, as long as your games aren't too demanding or you're ok with playing at lower settings, then a laptop is a great gaming machine, at least for a while. Gaming on a laptop would probably require me to buy a new laptop every 2 years. That's my experience with my previous laptops. After about two years, I can't run hardly any games, at least decently.

Well, have fun.

I want to throw my laptop out of the window now. Sure it was $1200 bucks but was it worth it >? I say its one of the best deals for a laptop around with these kind of specs.

Forgot to mention, Ati 5870 and Core i7 is not to shabby i max everything there on the market right now.

Considering the specs and that price it is a good deal, but in general, laptops are more costly than a custom build of similar specs, brand ones even more so(such as alienware). Then, when upgrade time comes, while with a custom build you can switch only a few parts and save more money, with a laptop you´ll have to get a new one. If portability is a must though, then I guess a laptop is the way to go.

Yeah, I suppose I forget that not everyone needs a portable everything device, at least not for the money. Yet people seem to forget about much to often. Then those complaining about cost, I recommend finding a cheaper laptop. Then taking advantage of all the great games that can be 5 or more years old, anyone remember BattleField 1942? Yea, run that on a small priced laptop just perfectly, and still have a GREAT FPS.

Unless you have a MacBook, then NO.

MacBooks, based on experiences from friends, use it alot for casual pick up and play games, and have efficient battery life. Otherwise, running longer games, laptops in general are a waste of money.

Even as an aspiring writer, I personally find laptops (Windows Based) a complete and utter waste.

I recently bought an Asus G51 JW-FHD gaming laptop, as I am moving overseas - to replace my desktop. Couldn't be happier really, though once I settle in I will probably invest in a desktop / multimedia / gaming hybrid PC with a new LCD TV.

In all honestly Laptop gaming is that bad. I have never done it though, but common sense would say that it's an all round win situation. You can always hook up a mouse to the laptop at home and I think it's possible to hook it up to a monitor. Then if you're on the go you can play too. That said, I wouldn't laptop game b/c I don't travel enough and when I do I usually don't have time to game.

Airflow and heat dissipation aren't all that great on a laptop.

It's altogether too easy to send a GPU to 80 C or more during an uber-game.

Desktops are better suited to PC gaming.

laptops are good providing that they are powerful & that means bulky, expensive and short battery life. they are also pretty difficult if not impossible to upgrade and due to their lower specs they go out of date very quickly. if you dont mind playing older games on medium to low settings they are pretty good at doing the job.

with my old laptop it would start to overheat and shut itself down when trying to play some graphically intensive games :(

i used to game only on a laptop and it was a mxied experience. on the plus side 1) it was really handy 2) it could provide the same experience as a desktop by plugging it into an external monitor or TV and connecting a mouse and a set of speakers. i used to have a home made docking station at home that i would use to connect my lappy up to all those things quickly. 3) it could also be played on the go. not for very long mind but it would certainly provide some funsies. but the down side 1) getting drivers was a pain. i think thats has been greatly improved since but when i was a laptop gamer ATI and Nvidia didnt provide drivers for laptops from their website. so i would have to hunt around for driver releases from other companies that used ATI cards. 2) laptops arent upgradeable outside of ram.

I only really play on my laptop when I go home for a weekend or holiday, which is maybe once or twice a month. it's 4-5 years old so it can't play any high end games. but it's good to have the mobility.

but desktops is where pc gaming is really meant to be.

so to answer the question, no Laptops are not the best thing about pc gaming

Aside from portability laptops are inferior to desktops in every way, and I've never had the need to take my games with me. I guess if you travel a lot and have to spend lot of time in hotels or something, but generally speaking for me if I'm not at home it's because I have things to do.

Unless its a really slow-based game, i cant stand gaming on laptops...performance is never as good as youd think based on its hardware, all laptop keyboards are **** and all screens have an immense amount of input lag.

Though they are extremely convenient to hook up to your tv(assuming they're both hdmi) to do a variety of things.

Laptops are great for for portability, work/school and playing only certain kind of games that do not require a lot of horsepower. But if you are a pc gamer who wants to experience everything the platform offers, you will look into getting a gaming desktop.
