Galaxy wasn't exactly an reinvention but an evolution of previous games. Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine and ... yes, Super Mario Galaxy. The open world - sorta - Mario games are the Mario game everyone buys a Nintendo console for.
I know it wasn't a true reinvention, but how many games can Nintendo bring out for mario which is pretty much the same old snes game but with upped graphics, I'm not saying it's a bad thing and I do like them games but it's just not enough for me to invest when there isn't much more from the big hitters yet which interest me.
How many Call of Duty's have been made, but with upped Graphics? Same can be said for all of today's games. Nintendo's first party just sells, and if they stopped making Mario games, they'll lose more than just hardware sales.
Totally agree with you. I hate Call Of Duty, and don't get me wrong I love Mario, but Mario hasn't changed much since the snes, except from a few exceptions, all I'm saying is, until Zelda, Metriod and a new Mario Galaxy or something different comes out, it just doesn't interest me that much,
But I'm saying one thing, if Nintendo dropped all there gimmicks and concentrated on building a system which is aiming for top dog, then I do believe they probably would wipe the floor with everyone, maybe not sony but they'd definitely become the best, as long as the system was easy to program for, bring back the third party as well as Nintendo First Party, now that would be amazing and i'll be on board.,
I'm always hearing those excuses, what do you mean by something different? Do you want Mario to change Genres, want a change in graphics, or do you want Nintendo to stop making all their first party games and start fresh with a totally new IP that should take a risk replacing Mario as a Mascot?
What do you mean building a system aiming for top dog? Their are many reasons why 3rd parties aren't making games for Nintendo systems, and making the system easy for developers is only one of them. They don't focus on pleasing the developers, they're more focus on pleasing the consumer and they have tried with the Wii and it was a huge success. The Wii U was an attempt to please 3rd parties and it has greatly failed. Why else have they got rid of their "Seal of Quality" status symbols? Because 3rd parties felt like Nintendo had too much power on what should be on their consoles.
I mean, before the PS4 and Xbox One announcement, Nintendo tried to make the Wii U as similar as the Xbox 360 architect for ease of development. Then things went downhill with the supposed promise of Nintendo and EA super friends deal that started a domino effect that also caused other 3rd parties to pull out.
I don't think making a super console will benefit Nintendo, what will benefit them is making an affordable console that solely relies on playing games. I agree that Nintendo shouldn't rely on gimmicks, but the true reason why the Wii-mote and Wii Sports sold the Wii is because how friendly it was to use for those non-gamers. I always believed that making simple game controller and arcade style games is what casuals want, but of course we have hardcore fans here that cry foul on that and act like console gaming should only be focus on them and that 3rd party developers are the almightys that should allow to make whatever they want.....
I don't want Mario to be replaced but Nintendo Rely heavily on that franchise, maybe it time they made a brand new IP, or just a different genre for Mario along side the side scrolling ones, something different.
The reason Third party have all but a few pulled out, is because the PS4 and Xbox One are more powerful easy to develop for, and the games are pushing the hardware, so to get a another team to rebuild it to fit i with the Wii U architecture, is alot of money many developers don't want to spend, the problem is the Wii U came at the completely wrong time, at a time the PS3 and 360 were winding down and moving on, unlike the Wii which was aimed at casual gamers more, and had a nice twist to it, with gameplay, the Wii U doesn't have that, it's a straight forward, gaming console, just like how the Gamecube was great but the demand for Nintendo isn't as high as it once was. and for me they need to either keep going down the route of the Wii mote and making it a 1:1 motion control gaming system, or step up and compete against the leading consoles, which will bring in third party.
you saying that Nintendo need to just build a console solely relies on playing games, is pretty much what the Wii U is, but it came at the wrong time.
