AMD - Xbox 720 graphics will look like Avatar

Well, that's just bs, unless they got proper raytracing to work in real time w/o us knowing it, or w/o even a simplified tech demo for the current gen GPU's.

Avatar, although impressive from a technical standpoint... God it was bad, those damn blue things, so ugly, looked like they had downs.

As of what we have now currently, very much so, yes. But if sudden leaps in GPU technology do occur in the near future (look at the Nvidia GPU roadmap and Maxwell, for instance), then it could very well be possible.

I believe Nvidia was talking about how ray-tracing is the next "big thing" for creating graphics in an article I read not too long ago. If they really believe that, and they develop their technology to foster that level of processing, Avatar graphics could very well be attainable in real-time.

Ah, here it is. Pretty interesting, if you're into the tech industry and the like.

Close enough. I think next gen games will look on par with Avatar to the naked eye but not under a magnifying glass. Maybe not in motion anyway, but then again i suppose when you're making a CGI film you set aside extra time to try and make each frame look perfect.

I don't know if it will be quite as good as avatar, but I'm surprised that people think it won't be a HUGE step up from everything we are seeing on ANY platform. The only way a new console will sell is if it blows away the consumers. The next set of consoles will be beyond anything we've seen, pc included. PC will catch up and eclipse the consoles shortly after, though.

That is a different story. MS and Sony don't work like Nintendo. In order for people to want to upgrade from 360/ps3, the visuals will have to blow people away.

I remember hearing that the computers used to create Avatar took upwards of several hours to render a single frame:shock:

That would equate to a few days to get ONE SECOND of video

So unless the Xbox720 gets a 100,000 times leap in GPU power, this will not happen:cry:
