Lets see how much money the consumers have given to MS, Sony and the Big N for their consoles. (note: this is just money generated, not how much the companies Profited since Sony and MS are losing per console sold, also since recent price drops have been in affect for a short time I will use the consoles original and highest price, so this information won't be 100% accurate but an estimate)

Microsoft XBOX 360

First 11 Months Consoles Sold: 4.2 Million @ $399.99 = $1,680,000,000

Total Consoles: 10.67 Million @ $399.99 = $4,268,000,000

Nintendo Wii

Total Consoles: 10.91 Million @ $249.99 = $2,727,500,000

Sony Playstation 3

Total Consoles: 4.39 Million @ $599.99 = $2,634,000,000

* Can subtract up to $250 million for PS3 and 360 since some consoles were sold @ $299.99 for 360 and some @ $499.99 for PS3.

As you can see the First 11 months Nintendo has generated the most revenue and installed the largest fanbase, following them is Sony with only ~$100 million less (up to $350 million when calculating the 20GB Ps3's), and The Xbox 360 in a distant 3rd place.

This is still anybody's game.

What about if all the consoles were $299.99, and the revenue generated was the same, this is what the fanbase's would look like:

360:

11 Months: 5.60 Million

Current: 14.23 Million

Wii:

Current: 9.09 Million

PS3:

Current: 8.78 Million

Hmm...interesting.

Discuss?

*I know this information is probably wrong but just a fun little thing I did on my spare time

14.23 million? where did you get that number?

Revenue doesn't matter ifyou don'tfactor in the costs to get the income.

The 360 would have a fanbase of 14.23 Million if the 360 was priced at $299.99 Only.

and I know the information has flaws

This is what Retailers charge for them, not how much they company themselves charge for them and you dont factor for any expenses.

The consoles are sold to retailers at $5-10 under MSRP, that's why the big 3 can decide when price-drops happen.

So retailers on make $5 a pop on every console sold. Get out. They would go broke.

How many places only sell PS3's, Wii's and 360s???

Money isin't made of off Consoles.

Retailers make money of off software...most PS3/360 Games are sold for $40 to retailers, which sell the games for $60, Iono about Wii games...maybe $25-$30, then sold at $50.

It doesn work like that. The revenue is dependant on the number of consoels sold, not the other way around. There is no way to tell what the sales would be if all of the consoles were the same price. Its a moot point.

I agree with you, if the prices of teh consoles where different, the revenue generated would be very different from what it is right now.

But as I stated in the original post, I was using the revenue generated at its current state to see how many consoles would be sold at a different price. Just changed the price variable, not the revenue varaiable.

As I'm sure that was mentioned, revenue is great but remember Economics 101, Revenue - Costs = Profit and unfortunately Sony's costs are sky high.

and as I stated in the original post, I am not counting Profits, just revenue generated...sony earned 2.65 billion by selling 4.4 million Ps3's...but the cost of those PS3's was probably around 3.2-3.5 billion if not more

Then we have an international price crisis. The PS3 is $1000 in Australia and $390 in Japan.
