Hmmm.... somehow, I don't think selling over (reportedly) over a million within 1 week of release worldwide would be considered a "failure" by most publishers. Whatev.
SMG, by the end of this generation, will break 5 million, and it's actually quite likely that it will break 10 million. Yes. I said it. 10 million.
Most kiddies dont earn enough with allowance to buy games,
they have to wait for their XMas money to come in.

final fantasy is quite the casual game actually.
He was talking about the American market and considering this the best game the Wii will ever see it was a miserable failure.JiveT
Shadow of the Colossus was arguably the best game that the PS2 ever saw, and it didn't sell all that well. How did that work out for the PS2?
Not every good game sells 1 million copies in the first day/week/month/year. Mario games, traditionally, keep their legs better than nearly any other franchise. As far as I know, SMG has sold faster than any other Mario game to date, and that includes games that sold 12 million, 14 million, 18 million, and 40 million.
Oh, BTW, neither Halo game even came close to touching the 10 million mark. Selling 3 million copies in a week does nothing for you as far as being one of the best sellers of the generation. Games like GTA, Mario, Nintendogs, Pokemon..... the REAL sellers.... get their numbers from their legs.
Go back to noob school. You still have much to learn.

Ever hear of the time value of money? A dollar made today is worth more thana dollar made tomorrow. What school did you go to? Oh wait you like Kidtendo probably finishing up second grade by the sound of it. ;) Why you think companies push the pre-orders? You have no idea. That's why this professional analyst is calling it a failure and a sheep is trying to spin it into some kind of triumph.

Kidtendo? YOU SO CLEVER!!! Emoteicons are so mature :P
Edit: You have a freaking Sonic avatar and your gonna bring out the kiddy thing?
yeah, its only the second fastest selling game this generation. what a failure
nintendo themselves even stated that it had the highest first week sales of any game in the mario franchise.

With the average rate of inflation (and the increasing strength of every currency in relation to the dollar), that isn't their concern. Average inflation rates are right around 3%. 3 pennies on the dollar per year.
Would it be "better" to sell 10 million on day 1 rather than 10 million over 5 years? Yes. Are you going to complain about either? No.
Failure? Tell me that when this game passes Halo 3.

My bad. I was going off of memory.
He also flat out lied. It sold 1.2 million in its first week. How do people like this get jobs?sexy_chimp
Well it depends, every one in this thread is pulling numbers out of there butts. Does any body have the official numbers? But if that 500,000 in a week is true then that is indeed bad, maybe the best ever for Mario (but then again sorry sheep but your average Mario fan isn't the type to rush out and buy it day one) but over all looking at how some games sell milions in 24 hours that is by comparison, bad, but who cares? Over the wii's life alot of people are going to get it.TrailorParkBoy
750K in America according to the NPD.
250K in Japan and 200K in other according to VGchartz.
That's for the first week in each area.
Right now it's at 1.88 million according to VGchartz.
How is this bad?

the 500, 000 in one week is true (and its for america alone, counting japanese and european sales, the number is well over 1 million)
and no its not bad. mario games have LEGS, meaning they sell well over time. for example, new super mario bros on the ds sold only 180k in its first week in america, and went on to sell 11.5 million copies world wide.mario gamesdon't open big like halo does, but unlike halo, their sales don't just fall flat after the first few weeks.

That means that iit is currently on track to outsell Super Mario Bros. 3 - which is the best selling title of all time at 17+ Million copies sold.
Possible, considering likely increased developmental costs. The Wii isn't really for 'real' games, metroid didn't sell well either. It's more for supercasual games, which have allmadelots of money no matter how bad they are.osirisomeomi
Lol no. You can't just make things up. Besides if ultraviolent Resident Evil 4 can sell over a million on Wii, anything can. Maybe Wii fanbase is too hardcore for kiddy Mario :P
The game sold fabulously with barely any advertising. Mario games are extremely long lasting and will sell alot.
Halo 3 was EVERWHERE they probabaly spent alot of the profit just advertising.
SMG will sell in stores for the entire generation.
Its sold 2 million already, this guy is a fricken noob.

dude SMG has sold over 2 million units and its a hardcore game. I dont know where people are getting this but SMG is selling really good.
MP3 has almost sold million, stupidly Nintendo abrely advertised. If they had a better advertising campaign it would have sold much more.
RE4 sold over one million.
Wii could not have sold this much if there was not a very serious hardcore audience.
Seriously what is so bad about 2 million units sold in 3 weeks. LMAO what is wrong with you pweople/
