Its a kids game. And with Christmas right around the corner, all the little kids are writing SMG on Santa's Christmas list with a cute little crayonkrp008

If it is just a "kids" game, then they will weep at the difficulty of getting this star...

It is hard to get sarcasm across on the internet I guess. I was joking. SMG is "kiddy", but it is fun. Yes, it is too easy.

In America maybe. It's flopping in JPN.

[QUOTE="soccer_forever"]500 000 000 units sold worldwide in a week says hikrp008

500,000 you mean. And thats not a lot worldwide... Halo 3 sold what? 3 or so million copies in its first day.

500k was first week in the US, Nintendo claimed it's the fastest selling Mario title ever.

Halo 3 sold around 3 million first day worldwide, which is true, but that only means sales dropped by a lot after 1st day.In comparison, although SMG sold a lot less onfirst day,sales didn't take a dive after the 1st day like Halo 3 did. I will go as far as to say SMG's 2nd month will outperform Halo 3's 2nd month by quitea bit.

The fact that this analyst put so much emphasis on first week sales makes him sound a little misinformed. Looking at any Mario game, it always took some time for any Mario game to sell millions, why suddenly expecting SMG to sell millionsduring first week like Halo?

It doesnt matter WHEN you sell a number of products, As long as its SOLD... And showing the world that you've made the most popular game in history is a lot better than a selling a few hundred thousand games a month

If what you say is true, that people will continue to buy SMG for "years", why didnt they buy it sooner?

Yes, apparently, Halo 3 sold millions in first day, but sales drastically went down after that, that's the point I was making. Halo sold great, ESPECIALLY during the first day, I was trying to point out that SMG had and will have a different sales pattern, not saying which is better, because end result counts the most.

The reason why SMG is different from Halo 3 is because they have different audience and different groups of follower. Halo 3 has a big group of followers that will go wait in line to get this game on fist day, Mario games never had that, is it SMG or anybody's fault that it didn't sell millions first day when it reallywasn't meant to be or never known for that?

Realistically, we will be looking at close to 4 million SMG sold by the end of the year, it won't even be 2 months by then. Right now, after about 2 months and a week or so, Halo 3 have sold more or less, around 6 million (?). When you look past the first day or first week, I don't think their difference is that big, whether SMG will catch up to Halo 3's lifetime sales and possibly surpass it will depend on how they conintue to sell next year.

[QUOTE="Cyber-"]

No hardcore gamers when all the sales show that hardcore gamers are driving the console's success. You guys HAVE to stop spewing this BS about no hardcore gamers. DO you know how many more million seller games there are on Wii campared to PS3? how is over 2 million units sold, "somewhere down the road." Your whole post means ntohing when all the facts point in the opposite direction.thinicer

Nobody is saying "no hardcore gamers" about the Wii; they're saying there are a lot more casuals in the Wii camp. Agreed?

And nobody is saying that Galaxy won't sell well. I know I didn't say that. I said that just because Galaxy sold 500,000 in its first week doesn't necessarily mean that it is a sales failure, and it certainly doesn't mean that MGS4 will get the same treatment. I stated my reasons why. You can either agree or disagree, I could care less.

And another factor that may be contributing to the relatively "disappointing" 1st sales week for Mario Galaxy - many hardcore gamers that have Wiis ALSO have PS3s or Xbox 360s. I don't know a lot of "hardcore" gamers that have the Wii as their one and only console. They have probably taken their time getting Mario Galaxy because, for obvious reasons, the other two consoles have some pretty nice titles on them right now and there are just TOO many great games to play at the moment.

I have a Wii and a 360, and I just bought Mario Galaxy last night because I was too busy playing Bioshock, Halo 3 and COD4. Go figure.

I dont know how many times I have to repeat myself in a thread but what part over 1 million in one week are you guys not getting? I dont know if you think SMG sales are dissappointing or ot because you kinda dodge around with what you say. Just letting you know 1 million is alot for 1 week. Also SMG sold 700, 000 in the first week in the US not 500, 000. Just letting you know SMG is almost at half of what Halo 3 is at and its not been a month yet. Halo games make a huge bang on the first initial weeks but they dont have legs, unlike Nintendo games.

Now that thats clear and its safe to say SMG is asuccess by alll means. What I dont get is why people think Wii is fullof non gamers. Maybe youdid not say it has "no" hardcore gamers but even saying PS3 has more hardcore gamers is not necessarily true. Yourbasing your ideas on commonmisconceptions. Look at the sales not what fanboys say on these forums ( not saying your a fanboy). The sales inidicate while, yes many non gamer wii games are doing well, but more hardcore games are doing well on Wii than the hardcore games on PS3. I am sorry but non gamers are not gonna buy RE4 or MP3. Also I know that many hardcore gamers buy games like Brain Training and Wii Play because, as much as fanboys put them down, are very fun and well put together games whther you like it or not.

You make it sound like Wii is a secondary console, you dimish the idea that there are hardcores on Wii, and for some reason you keep atributing this to "dissappointing" initial week sales even though it sold over a million??????...... Your statements are completely inconsistant with hardware and software sales which dont lie. Wii is doing great because it has both hardcores and non gamers, but according to sales hardcore games are selling much better.

Also dont make it sound like all the good games are just coming to 360 and pS3, SMG is one fo the many good Wii games this year, please dont belittle it because all those games you mentioned for pS3 and 360 most of which will be much more fun on the PC.

So if the sales are nothing but good and there are evidently hardcores amassing on Wii, maybe your in the back of your head comparing it to halo 3.... I guess thats understandable but you have to realise they had an unrealisticly large ad campaign. Halo 3 will sell great these next few months but SMG will continue to sell throughout the year like all Nintendo major games. I know Nintendo should advertise more but it doesnt change the fact that even without it they still sell better than most games.

That is easier than it looks. Yes, you might die the 1st couple of attempts, but it is just about pattern memorization to beat this level. There are also 150 coins, and you only need 100.

Maybe nothing. It is the fasterst selling mario game in the USA, period.

Maybe not a flop in the US? Damage control is quite funny.

How so? It works PERFECTLY with the Wii controller. What specifically would be better with a regular controller?

Plus, how would you control the cursor with a regular controller? The only way to do it would be with the second analog stick, but that would be incredibly awkward. Analog sticks don't provide the speed and accuracy to point anywhere on the screen quick enough for a game like this.

No it wouldnt. how do you expect to do the ball balancing races and enjoy it as much without tilting the controller? how are you suppose to collect star bits
