I think it was extremely stupid to do such a botched model.

I mean 8 gigs of ram that would easily be taken up by the first update.

Did anyone at nintendo see this happening?

Animal-Mother
Both Sony and Microsoft have models which are exactly the same as this, the 360 has a 4GB version and the Super Slim PS3 has a 12GB version. So what's the big deal exactly?

Erm, they don't sell any of the 12 gig models here at any major retailers here. And 4 gig is enough for storage.

Well they sell them at most places here in the UK and it's a lot more ridiculous than the WiiU situation since there's plenty of PS3 games that you HAVE to install to the hard drive or you can't play them. Also how in the hell can you say 4GB is enough for storage but 8GB (or even 3GB if that's how much is left after the major patch) isn't, that's completely illogical and you've literally just picked apart your own argument. Good job.

If people aren't buying the Wii U now, it's not a good sign for other consoles down the road either, especially if they're upwards of $500. People can lie to themselves and say "if those products are worth the value, people will buy them" but only a select few will. So before you fanboys jump for joy that people aren't spending money like they used to, get ready for a taste of your own bitter medicine.

Timstuff

I think that the next gen is going to be very disappointing. It's getting too expensive to pack cutting-edge tech into a console that sells for under $400, and the industry is moving more towards a model designed to protect profits rather than push for higher quality end-user experiences and better deals for customers.

Perhaps...I think the Steam Box is kind of a cool approach.

Ly_the_Fairy

That's some flawed logic.

Just because the Wii U isn't successful doesn't mean the other consoles can't be. It depends entirely on the value they provide to the consumer.

That logic is like saying that because the Dreamcast was selling poorly at $200 that meant when the PS2 launched at $300 it'd sell poorly too, and of course when the PS2 was selling like hotcakes that should have meant the cheaper Gamecube was going to sell even better.

Hit the nail on the head. Most people make bold assumption on the industry from no solid logical platform and are fulled by nothing but bias and bitter perspectives. Personally I have no interest in the Wii U but I am excited about the 720 and PS4 and as I am aware most people share the same interest, so if that's anything to go by bare in mind we put our money where our mouths are the 720 and PS4 WILL sell better than the Wii U regardless of price. Core gamer's for the games and the Wii U has nothing so far that registers on most peoples radar as a must have and the games looking no better is really not helping in justifying the purchase.

Nintendo first party.

Beat me to it! But yes, definitely. That's one of the sole reasons I buy Ninty consoles.

I think this is completely wrong, this is no reflection on the next gen consoles im sorry but the Wii U is just a Wii update, its graphics are just about on par with the ps3 and the 360 why would anyone want to buy a console what does the same thing, and the people who bought the Wii you know the non gamers the families dont care for graphics and third party games im sorry but Wii U has come to late anyone Nintendo who wanted the top game have already got a ps3 or 360 what's the need for an in between console which offers nothing new, that's the only reason the Wii succeeded because it was different.

seriously anyone give me one reason why I should buy a Wii u except for there first party games when any gamer by now who plays the top games has a ps3/360, what a waste of money when the next gen is just around the corner

The WiiU has Miiverse which is an interesting social networking thing. The WiiU is actually stronger then those two consoles. It can most likely do things the other consoles can't do.The WiiU will eventually pick up in sales.

[QUOTE="RR360DD"]Updates on the 360 don't use the HDD. And they actually offer sku's with 250gb or 320gb. Unlike nintendo who offer 32 is it? Pretty pathetic in 2012/3.Zeviander
The U lets the user attach any USB HDD device, including 2 TB ones. Microsoft lets us use 16GB flash memory and charges us $200 for a 320 GB HDD. Your point is moot. Nintendo didn't include more memory because it cut down on costs, and instead let the use pick how much space they wanted.

$100 to $150 you mean.

if any drop happens, it'll probably just be a $50 drop.

$250 for a 8gb and $300 for a 32gb.

Then again, Sales will pick up when some sort of Third Party support comes in and Nintendo's 1st party emerges from Development zone.

In other words WAIT TILL E3.

LegatoSkyheart
But there is no 3rd party support incoming. There's hardly any multipats coming in the first half of the year and that will only get worse when more powerful machines launch.

I still think the price is fair for now, but it will drop over time.

You have to remember, though, the WiiU will only be in competition with the PS3 and 360 for a limited time. When the other consoles release, and if Nintendo took your advice, they'll have a huge advantage in the games departments and affordability. If people don't want to shell out money for a more expensive machine and are satisfied with what the PS3 and 360 could offer, logic dictates some, but not all, of them will by the WiiU simply because games are still being made for it.

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2013-01-15-will-digital-keep-nintendo-in-hardware

So can we please stop pretending that 2.2 million shipped is the same thing as sold, particularly when the system just launched and retailers already find themselves with an over-abundance of stock leftover from Christmas?

My prediction: Nintendo will eliminate the basic model of the Wii U, and lower the deluxe model's price to $270 to be more competitive with the Xbox 360 and PS3. Anyone who wants a Wii U wants the deluxe model, so at this point the basic one is just a waste of shelf space. I predict Nintendo will put the basic model on clearance for $250 and package it with a free copy of Nintendoland. It's also possible that in the near future, they will release an "XL" model that comes with a built-in HDD, since 32GB of internal storage is riduculous for a system that claims to be pushing digital distribution.

Timstuff
Kind of sounds like the PS3 after it's first 3 months on retail shelves. A price cut is inevitable, but it probably won't happen until just before the XBox 720 or PS4 is launched. Especially if sales don't start to increase over the next 6-7 months. Nintendo needs to increase the storage size to at least 120GB standard. Definitely drop the basic model and start selling the premium for $299 with a game included. I still won't buy it though, as there's really nothing on it right now that I want to play.

The people that bought the Wii are now using their iPads and iPhones... The Wii U isn't selling because the casual don't really care enough to spend £250-300 and most gamer's who are aware of what the Wii U is just aren't interested in the current lineup. 720 and PS4 will come in at $100 more than the Wii U and sell out mainly because the people that bought the 360 and PS3 are still interested in gaming. Nintendo had a good run with the casuals but both the 3DS and the Wii U have proven in sales that their 15 minutes of fame are well gone, s.Grey_Eyed_Elf
uhh... except that the 3ds is actually a huge success and has the entire nation of Japan on lockdown as far a game development is concerned :|

It is NOW... Prior to the price cut it was dead weight. The Wii U if it sell's wont move much till its £150- $200.

I think this was Nintendo's plan the whole time. Overcharge for outdated hardware until the competition comes out than drop the price by half, they did it with the 3DS and it worked so why not the Wii U? As soon as the xbox 720 and PS 4 come out Nintendo will price the Wii U at around 200-250$ sure as *****. They're just milking the Nintendo Drones for all they can now.

Come to think of it, it might be for the better due to what bulls*** the "core" gamers have started whenever Nintendo actually TRIES to do something THEY have interest in.

Please. These are the same analysts that predicted failure for the Wii and Xbox 360 against the PS3, that first claimed that Nintendo was underpricing the 3DS, and then that it would either be discontinued or rebranded after being humiliatingly outsold by the PS Vita, that claimed that New Super Mario Bros. Wii wouldn't make a dent on the market... Before you call me a blind sheep, try and use some sense and logic. Analysts are almost never right about anything. While the Wii U has problems, and while I have no doubt that Nintendo will be forced to drop the price eventually (or do something else to boost sales), I will not go around quoting an analyst's word as gospel. I would also like to remind you that Timstuff has a notorious record with Nintendo. He was posting similar articles for the 3DS back when it released, pointing out that it was doomed to discontinuation once the Vita released. Look how that turned out.
