https://www.gamespot.com/articles/expect-switch-2-to-be-iterative-instead-of-a-revolution-says-analyst/1100-6520102/

The Switch 2 might look like the current hybrid console, according to analyst Serkan Toto. Toto also predicted the unannounced system will carry a bigger price tag when Nintendo launches the product, which is expected later this year.

Sharing his predictions with GamesIndustry.biz, Toto believes that Switch 2 will finally arrive in 2024 at a cost of $400. The founder of consultancy group Kantan Games added that Nintendo's next console is "likely to be an iteration rather than a revolution. Nintendo might add some bells and whistles to the device, but it will be similar to the current Switch." In other words, expect the same hybrid functionality with portability being an option for gaming on the go.

Toto also thinks Nintendo might raise prices across the board for Switch 2 games as well, meaning they could be priced at $70. Keep in mind the company has already hit this fee with Switch. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom officially cost $70, becoming the first Nintendo-developed game for the system to cost that much.

In July, it was reported that Switch 2 development kits were already with developers, with a 2024 launch in mind. It was said at the time the system would work in portable mode, fitting in with Toto's new prediction. Digital Foundry also has investigated what the Switch 2 hardware internals may offer and built a PC that could come close to matching that power. They found that Switch 2 might be able to run Death Stranding at 1080p at roughly 35 frames per second.

Nintendo hasn't officially revealed a Switch successor yet. However, Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser said the aim of a new system would be to "surprise and delight."

Thoughts, SW? Nothing really surprising to me. This seems like what most people are thinking..

I think there's gotta be another gimmick that we aren't expecting. Nintendo probably can't go toe to toe against Microsoft and Sony in terms of offering powerful consoles with lots of multi-plats and third-party games. Their bread and butter is offering an alternative to the Xbox and Playstation. Offering a mere upgrade of the Switch doesn't address that.

Good, that’s exactly what I want. Stick with the current Switch model. Just make it more powerful. That would probably make it $500 here in Canada. I’m fine with that.

Possibly cost $400? Not "possibly", it will be $399.99 as i predicted since 2020. Now imagine paying this much in 2024 when the system will be competing with the 2013 xbone when it comes to performance. OOF.

And lets not forget, they're guaranteed to charge $70 for everything, when their games haven't discovered motion capture, they don't invest into voice acting, cutscenes, writing and story telling. You're getting an early 2000's experience in 2024 for $70. The ****.

I hope the new Joy Cons are good (they suck on the current Switch), 3D stereoscopic screen, compatible with old games and accessories, modern online experience, family sharing of digital purchases, third party games release day and date with other consoles, and physical games come all on the cart with no extra download (except update patches obviously)

Hope Switch 2 at least performs similar to AMD RX 680M. That APU is pretty cheap nowadays and pretty competitive with 3050 Mobile edition.

Unless the information of the Switch's successor is official and directly from Nintendo, I will believe it. Other than that, I care little about speculations, rumors, and even informed opinions from analysts.

@SolidGame_basic: meh, absolutely zero interest in switch 2.

I say that but if they release a metroid and zelda and new smash...well I'll probably get one. Not for $400 though.

I passed on the Switch, will pass on the Switch 2.

And if it's going for $400 in the states, it would be around $600 here, yeah Nintendo can jog on for that price.

Entirely possible. But this is also the company that took the wildly successful Wii setup, binned it an went with something quite bonkers for it's successor.

The 400 price tag though. Assuming it is really just a switch 2.0....uff. That puts it right in the PS5s firing line. Still the price difference between the switch and PS5 is not all that big, yet the Switch still sells well considering it's age. Maybe loads of people really do value the flexibility that much.

Sounds good to me... Just make a more powerful Switch with a nice 1080p OLED screen. Plus a few other refinements and I'll be happy.

And please make it 100% backwards compatible.

You won't get a 1080p screen. If even a Deck doesn't have it, what makes you think that Nintendo, a company that focuses on the most welfare specs in the whole industry, will have it?🤡Don't be a fool.

Honestly the only way I would remotely (remotely!) entertain the idea of buying a Switch is if I could get one for <250 and they made it better and more durable. It'd also need to do more than play Nintendo games.

I'd sooner spend 600 on a Steam Deck (or equivelent) than 400 on a Nintendo platform.

I just don't understand how Nintendo can offer so little but charge such high prices. I have nothing against Nintendo games themselves, it's just such a greedy little company imo. It's like they're charging Gucci purse prices but offering Hello Kitty purses.

Look at the specs of these expensive PC handhelds. The Switch 2 won’t match those specs. Even at $400 it will be nearly half the price. So expect nearly half the specs. 🤷🏾‍♂️

The funniest thing about this thread, is seeing people who aren't fans of Nintendo, telling them how to market and design their products. Newsflash, dorks! They listened to y'all for the Wii U, and it flopped. They stopped listening to you dorks for the Switch, and it's a commercial success!

Honestly speaking, they just need to keep the same formula overall. The hybrid design is smart. All they need to do is upgrade it and fix the issues. Like better joycons, more powerful system, better online infrastructure, and a better stream of releases. Outside of the Switch, make their old games accessible outside of Nintendo's online, because that is actually trash. I think they need more mini consoles. Like the NES and SNES mini, but also include the handheld games on those consoles. They were priced accordingly, considering that you can jail break them (which I support).

The Switch, is literally an iteration of the WiiU not the DS or any of their other systems. So Nintendo was smart to listen these dorks instead of folks like you.🤭

This is actually spot on. Looking back at the console, the Wii U was like a Switch prototype. We just needed capable hardware in that form factor to catch up. The Switch took the best parts of the Wii U and made them better. (And all the Wii U games except Xenoblade Chronicles X)

The Switch is a full hybrid that combines console and handheld. The Wii U failed to do this. The Switch also didn't focused on prioritizing third party games that appeal to the Xbox and PlayStation crowd. They prioritized games for the Nintendo crowd, and it paid off.

You're not even going to buy their next console and you likely don't have a Switch, you likely didn't buy the Wii U (or even the 3DS), and you likely didn't buy the Wii or DS. So again, why should Nintendo listen to people like you?

Your take is a perfect example of why it is not required. Oh and I do own a Switch, 3ds and WiiU so take a seat with your nonsensical takes.😂

@Pedro: My argument did have merit, and I'm ultimately right. The Switch was the console that Nintendo rightfully gave third party hardcore gamers the middle finger with. They appealed to their fans, and that paid off well.

Press X for doubt on you owning a Nintendo system, since you're clearly not a fan.

It's just them coping. Basically, they wanted Nintendo to appeal to them or flop. Though Nintendo DIDN'T appeal to them, and it's their most successful console to date (only losing to the DS thus far). What this means is that Nintendo ISN'T going third party. They wanted Nintendo to have another Wii U, so that they can leave the hardware space alone, and be an exclusive third party company. The end goal of hardcore gamers is Nintendo games on the Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. Though the Switch being successful basically crushed that dream. So now, they're back at square one of wanting Nintendo to make an Xbox/PlayStation clone. Because apparently, we need three of them same systems on the market...

Add better online functionality, chat rooms, easier way to add and play with friends, and trophy support and it's an easy day 1, however if they don't add most or at least some of those things I'll likelynwait and see where things go for a while.

Give us a new Mario Kart, Mario Party, Mario Maker, and/or Donkey Kong game and it would make it easier to justify the purchase. Taking the time to add new features and games shows flexibility and that they are still moving forward, but if it's just a small increase in graphics and docked mode isn't really taken into consideration then I'm probably not as interested.

Sounds like a DLSS3 tax as that will be the only notable difference.
