I never understand why this is really worth talking about. Analysts are rarely reliable in this gen, and seem to change their opinion at random (i really would love to meet a stock holder that actually listens to one, simply for the amount of cash I could scam out of someone like that).alextherussian
yes, and we can only make an analysis on what data and information is available.
Still we can always take a poll.
I think I made a poll somewhere around here "when the PS3 will overtake the Xbox360".
If anyone here cares to make their own prediction base on what data they know.
Unbridled PR trash talk isn't usually a reliable thing to go by.[QUOTE="nervmeister"][QUOTE="AdmiralBison"]
MS stated they will have the Xbox360 one day longer then the PS3.
They didn't state that for the Xbox.

yeah like "Getting a PS3 will instill discipline, and make you want to work harder to get a PS3".
That's unbridled PR trash don't you think?
How is that trash talk when Sony wasn't speaking against any opposing brand with those statements?[QUOTE="ogvampire"][QUOTE="-Snooze-"] Not Pacther. Patcher isn't the only anylyst in the world ... just one of the worstblue_hazy_basic
actually, out of all the VG analysts, pachter is the one that is most right... there was some info about this awhile ago
Yes, its not exactly a leet group you're talking about there ..... :Pheh. very true

I'm considering picking up a Wii. I always thought of it as a good alternate console, and dont u play games like SSB or other great Nintendo made games? I picked the "worst" console 2/3 times-- the DC and the PS3. I dont regret it thoughI seem to pick the loosers. Game Cube last gen, PS3 this gen. The thing is, I think both are good systems despite their setbacks. I just wish the wii was more worth my time, maybe I'd dust it off more.

[QUOTE="Brownesque"]"but it's already questionable how well it will be received by critics and gamers alike, because Turn 10's Forza 3 is the definitive racing game of this generation." I smell a fanboy.blue_hazy_basicPrachter is hardly an anti-Sony fanboy, if anything he's been very favourable to them in the past. He is much more likely to be an idiot and is wrong more often than right, if that helps any? :)
the one thing that really skews this (and i know it doesnt make a huge difference) is that they are only talking about the USA in terms of ps3 game sales but they use global figures for the two consoles or atleast they reference the 8 million gap between the two,
imo though if neither "next gen" system can beat the wii then they both failed hard considering the entire point of the ps3 and 360 is due to there graphical proweless and multimedia functions... nothing against the wii btw
...-_-, unless any of you guys have stocks in microsoft or sony...who cares

This is System Wars like it or not Sales, games, exclusives, popularity etc... are used for ammo.
Trust me if any other platform is last it would get the same level of criticism or crap.
You see those comments a lot this *insert game, console, peripheral etc* alot.
If one group of fanboys can give crap, they can also take it.
Didn't he say before the PS3 would beat the 360?...siLVURcrossYeah i think that was last week or so  I think its time to start ignoring Pachter, well we should have been ignoring him for a while now.

I do agree though about ignoring Patcher. Man that guy is wrong a lot. Seems like a nice guy but just does not seem to good on the guessing.
/PS3 360 is superior.July 6, 2009 - Wedbush Morgan's Michael Pachter sent out a massive 201-page report recently and it was only a matter of time before another analyst would speak his mind about the state of the console wars. The main point that Sebastian Kramer from market research firm NTH* addressed was the comeback of Sony's PlayStation 3 which currently trails behind Microsoft's Xbox 360 by eight million units.
"The PS3 needs nothing short of a miracle in order to catch up and Microsoft will do everything they can to beat Sony. The 360 is currently doing exceptionally well for a console in its fourth year and it doesn't show any signs of slowing down any time soon. All things considered, I believe that the PS3 is going to finish in a distant third place this generation."
He's got a point, recent GfK data reveiled that the 360 has been outselling even the Wii by 2:1 in the United Kingdom during the last five months. But still, couldn't Sony turn fortunes around by launching a PS3 Slim and dropping the price? "Systems like the PS1 and PS2 reached mass market acceptance long before a Slim version was introduced, a hardware revision is not going to change anything in the big picture. A potential price cut can be easily countered by Microsoft who are already overachieving with their 360 anyway."
"Blu-Ray, as Pachter suggested, isn't going to have an impact in the long run either. Standalone players are already cheaper than the PS3, so this early advantage of Sony is gone. What you should really look at are the games.", Kramer continued. "Software sells hardware and I think that's where Sony really dropped the ball this generation."
Indeed, only one game published by SCEA has passed the one million mark in sales so far, according to NPD. "Our own research has also shown that 360 exclusives sell more on average than PS3 games, even when you leave out blockbusters like Halo 3 and Gears of War. Sony's last hopes rest entirely on Gran Turismo 5, but it's already questionable how well it will be received by critics and gamers alike, because Turn 10's Forza 3 is the definitive racing game of this generation."
What about the upcoming motion controllers? Which one has more potential, Natal or Sony's wand? "Microsoft really did a great job at generating buzz for Natal, even my mom was interested and asked me when it's going to be released. Sony is facing an uphill battle and they are better off focusing on profitability rather than market share from now on."
What do you think, dear readers? Is Sony done for and the PS3 destined to finish in last? Leave your comments in the space below.

[QUOTE="nervmeister"][QUOTE="Halo__Reach"]No. [QUOTE="Halo__Reach"]....and the PS3 destined to finish in last? Psn_FF7numbaOneLikely so. it will more than likely outlast the other consoles. You can check all 3 console makers track record. Who cares? This gen will be over and most of us will be gaming in the Eighth generation of gaming.
This analyst is clearly pro 360. This is the first generation ive heard and saw people buy two of the same consoles. ??I don't get that part?? But I can if a system breaks down. Not like Nintendo fans. The upgrade of the DS people buy it. The numbers of that system are skewed majorly. My buddy is ...slower because he bought another pro after his first one got rrod. But then as the Elite came out he bought that one. Three consoles for him. I'm sure that isn't everyone and some people may even have their launch 360, good for you. You are in the 70 percentage. I really thought 30 percent is way to high, but MS was mum about it. And they should be. It's bad for buisness to be too honest. So what I'm saying is the 360 is in the lead of the PS3 in sales because it has the help of the faulty machinery.
Sony isn't even a distant 3rd right now and with price drops the PS3 will only increase sales. I think there are a lot more people that are set on getting a PS3 but are just waiting on the price than set on getting a 360. The Playstation brand name is really strong with the casual market, a lot stronger than Xbox.
I really see Sony pushing the PS3 lifecycle longer than the PS2 and 10 year life cycle. I mean the way it looks the PS2 will still have games released for it into its 11th and 12th year. With firmware updates I actually see Sony supporting the PS3 over 10 years and maybe as much as 15 years. A new console will probably release, but i think it will be longer than the normal 6-7 years. I think Sony will release a new console right around the time the Ps3 hits 10 years because the system is adaptable.
this thread shows most people dont read the tc post or read what they want from their bias point.ITS NOT PATCHER its another analyst named kramer geez.patcher is a great analyst and isnt afraid to say his predictions even if he is wrong sometimes, not like other people that dont make any prediction in order to dont get wrong.actually patcher is usually right but little bad predictions make it look worse than it is.
lets see if we see a wii hd next year like he says,i think we will.with the advance of the dolphin i can see that happening,if they can make wii games run at 720p why cant nintendo?i think december 2010 we will see an upgrade to the wii adding new resolution
Analyst this, analyst that, God, honestly i'm tired of this guys (the wii will fade, 360 will be in third, PS3 will be in third, gaming is in danger, etc) they are starting to annoy me
I think that the PS3 will finish 4th (not 3rd, as PC counts)... however I don't really know that, no one does. What I do know is this: it's pointless to speculate. Last week there was a long thread based on Pachter saying the 360 would finish last, this week we've got the PS3 finishing last. Back and forth, and all completely fruitless. dsmccrackenyou know nobody counts PC. PC has been here from the beginning and it will most likely be here till the end.
I don't think there should be a lot crying/bragging on who is in first place.
you know what the general public thinks when they pick up a Wii/360/PS3 "it can play games". They don't care about who is in first or last. Does your mom give a crap about it like we do? she see's Nintendo and she instantly thinks of Mario and the old consoles that she might of bought in the past or she's heard from friends/family. She thinks of Playstation, and she remembers it from friends/family as well.
Xbox is still a rather new comer... ok before i go too far off tangent.
what matters to the general public is what they know about the brands, NOT if it's in first place or not.
-----------------
Last generation of games. the Playstation 2 was the clear victor, with Xbox and Gamecube sharing roughly the same crowd. with 24 million buying hte Xbox and 21 million buying the Gamecube. Is it really enough to brag about who is in first or last? All three game consoles had great games on their consoles.
This generation the tables are completely reverse. Xbox 360 is in the 30 million-something, Playstation 3 has about 21-24 million, and Wii has launched as the clear victor of this generation. It doesn't mean the PS3 is such a failure that they will have to drop support, or that it won't get any good games.
-----------------
I still don't believe that had the PS3 been the mega hit it was supposed to be, that games like Final Fantasy, Grand Theft Auto and most other games that would of stayed exclusive. the economics are too high risk to stay exclusive. That is why they've gone multi-platform on most games. and what happens? then the rabid dumbass (PS3/360/PC) fans can argue about which looks prettier.
-----------------
I think that if they can get backward compatibilty back on all PS3's, announce a price cut or announce a barebones version at a lower cost of ome sort, they will have the games coming this next year to really push the platform.
NOW will it be enough to push the PS3 over the edge? or close the gap? really remains to be seen. anybody who says one or the other is pure speculation at best and at worst fanboyism.
degrade the product just to keep sales up.eo_the_shamanthat's exactly what SONY have done with the ps3, they took out a lot of features like BC, MS have never 'downgraded' or removed anything from the 360, they did however ADD s hdmi port, look up the fact's before posting.
Which will happen eventually. In terms of sales sony is most likely going to finish 3rd, but not a distant 3rd, unless we see a 250$ ps3 :o

A "distant" 3rd place? I don't see that. The Japanese market should pull the PS3 ahead, but not until the new consoles are out.
The bigger picture here is how the PS Brand controlled 70% of the market last gen and now controls less than 25% this gen. :o
LosDaddie
Is that togther with Ps2s or just Ps3s alone?
[QUOTE="double_heist"]I thought he'd say the Xbox 360 would be 3rd place. -_-; I don't care about the f'in sales. I just want good games this gen.Espada12
The article isn't quoting patcher, it's another analyst who apparently has eyes.
Oh. I thought it was Patcher. Analysts are stupid, they just cause confusion and fanboy rage.Who cares about sales, the general population are morons. Nawshus
Sales are very important, lack of sales could drive all devs to work on lower budget Wii titles instead of the more expensive HD titles, it also determines the platform a dev is more likely to focus on, with their game in mind.
nah i still believe it will end up 2nd place behind the Wii.. all sony needs is a PS3 at $249 by this year and it will start catching up faster on competition..
However its not that i really care about who ends up 2nd or 3rd, as long as both 360 & PS3 keep getting great exclusives/multiplats which i can enjoy..
