Yesterday Microsoft finally took the covers off the new Xbox, what it hopes will last for many years to come. At a high level heres what were dealing with:

- 8-core AMD Jaguar CPU
- 12 CU/768 SP AMD GCN GPU
- 8GB DDR3 system memory
- 500GB HDD
- Blu-ray drive
- 2.4/5.0GHz 802.11 a/b/g/n, multiple radios with WiFi Direct support
- 4K HDMI in/out (for cable TV passthrough)
- USB 3.0
- Available later this year

While Microsoft was light on technical details, I believe we have enough to put together some decent analysis. Lets get to it.

 Sonys approach (especially when combined with a beefier GPU) is exactly what youd build if you wanted to give game developers the fastest hardware. Microsofts approach on the other hand looks a little more broad.

Sure in the overall scheme of things.

I think that there is a very high chance the 3rd party devs will likely make the PS4 version the lead version of many games, since it does seem to be more of what the devs themselves asked. In a year or two we'll know the answer to that question though.Desmonic

So.... it's possible the PS4 might be more expensive. IT all depends on how expensive the New kinect is honestly.

I wonder what storage media the Ps4 will use... if they really use Cloud they'll screw up their best chance to come out on top.

That's my big hope for next gen. No more crappy ports, they're coming to a point where all 3 systems (lolWiiU fvck off) are so damn close to each other that there really shouldn't be crappy ports on any of them.

I don't see major differences, lets see how the GDDR5 compare to the DDR3... 

So, PS4 is better.

The most important thing for me as a PC gamer is exclusives. If the PS4 is getting a good amount of interesting exclusives, I'll sure as hell get one later down the road.

Juicy bits: "Heres where things start to get a bit controversial. Sony opted for an 18 Compute Unit GCN configuration, totaling 1152 shader processors/cores/ALUs. Microsoft went for a far smaller configuration: 768 (12 CUs). Microsoft cant make up the difference in clock speed alone (AMDs GCN seems to top out around 1GHz on 28nm), and based on current leaks it looks like both MS and Sony are running their GPUs at the same 800MHz clock. The result is a 33% reductionin compute power, from 1.84 TFLOPs in the PS4 to 1.23 TFLOPs in the Xbox One."

If they go with just 256 bit GDDR3... They really did lose it.

There is no reason why they can't use 512 bit. If they have to use low end memory.

IMO MS blew this by not making their console an ACTUAL cable box. 

That idea did appeal to me. But I was supicious of cable companies allowing MS to just move in on their box leasing revenues. I guess it was never going to happen. However imagine the possibilities if they had signed contracts with Comcast/Time Warner/etc to move in and actually BE the cable box supplier for those companies. I know I wouldn't hesitate the drop the $15 a month fee, and just buy a $500 XBOX through them. Or hell, i would even pay $15 or $20 a month to lease an XBOX though my cable company (which is what I have to do now anyway for HDTV and DVR).

I don't get MS strategy at all. They advertise this thing as the "One" box you need. But if you have cable you still need your own cable box and DVR. So basically the XBOX does nothing but switch between cable and games? Guess what. I already have an A/V receiver that does input switching for me !!!! So even if I got an XBOX, I would literally never*EVER*NEVER use that feature

I seem to be in the minority that was initially suprised, impressed, by ms showing.  However, after the fact im reading about all the details which are now detering my interest.  The online thing is just bogus.  It is as simple as that.  I think this will be dropped.

But to more directly respond to you, consumer are already upset about the online pass/dlc/nickel and diming going on.  This could be a huge hit against ms.  So much time was spent on the media functionality that it almost gave the impression that games were a secondary thought.  An "Ultimate media box that also can play the latest games" if you will.  The bottom line is that gamers are the real supporters of these devices.  People want a frustration free experience.  If we set aside the underpowered aspect of the wiiu, what were consumers complaining about?  The ui downloads, etc.

Seriously I think MS could have built a stronger console but they wanted kinect standard. All jokes aside the new kinect was the most impressive thing out of the whole show.

Nothing new to see. I been knowing PS4 had a 1.8 gflop and xbox one has a 1.2 gflop GPU for months. Same as PS4 having more RAM for games... 7gb GDDR5 vs 5GB DDR3... :cool:

I get that ms will get money from more of the non gamers cause all the tv crap but end of the day im a gamer and I want my gaming console to put that in focuse and PS4 seems to be doing that.

They announced yesterday that the node is 40nm not 28.

So I'm putting less faith on that chart.
