[QUOTE="lhughey"]i hate to sound like a broken record, but there are too many PS3 owners not buying games. Why is that? I really think a lot of people are getting the machine for a bluRay player. Look at these number (they are coming from vgchartz, BUT they are historical numbers and not prediction numbers. VGChartz does a pretty good job with historical numbers). The 360 has 61 million+ selling games with 148m copies sold (from those 62 games) the PS3 has 31 million+ selling games with 66m copies sold (from those 31 games) That is a huge difference considering the the 360 was released just 1 year earlier than the PS3. Bread_or_DecideInstall base has something to do with this.
well the 360 is slightly under 10 million ahead right now, it does but at the same time the ps3 should have 2/3 the million+ sold games as the 360, not half
first, you spoke in a generalization, as if to say all multiplats perform roughly the same, second - not that i'm aware of. but hey, if you're saying that in here and throwing out 80% figures you must have a link, right?[QUOTE="3picuri3"][QUOTE="hyperboy152000"]
so your saying theres no multiplats that sell about even on the ps3 and 360?
hyperboy152000
beyond what has been posted on the front page of gamespot when devs like rock* or capcom (with DMC4) say the games sold 50/50 then i can only look to vgchartz which i still will not use
but for the software growth of 80 percent for 08 heres the link http://kotaku.com/5253450/ps3-software-sales-spiked-almost-80-percent
ok so it was almost 80 percent
a) an increase of 80% from 2007 when you know what released in 2008 is nothing to write home about. sales in 2007 were abysmal. b) show some real links about multiplat sales, because i find it hard to believe when the 360 has a modest hardware lead and the PS3 attach is still lower than the 360.[QUOTE="blue_hazy_basic"][QUOTE="hyperboy152000"]
yea i wonder what happened to the 1.1 million pre-sales in europe... maybe they all got abducted by ufo's :o
see thats the thing, its not that the game has sold badly, its Sony's idiotic PR department that keeps building things up.They are supposed to hype their products and sales (as a business) , and they were't hyping customer pre-order sales ..... just sales. They got paid and they are proud of that ..... why does this hurt you so ? Doesn't hurt me at all Nike, I think you're getting the wrong end of the stick. By hyping these giant numbers for pre-sales then it just gives ammo to people saying it was a flop, when it wasn't.wtf are you talking about. who got paid? and no, it isn't any PR departments job to hype beyond projections and spew BS. it's their job to create hype, not lie about it. thx. They sold 1.1 million copies of Killzone 2 to retailers in Europe (that we know of). But it also sold less than Re5 Ps3 (being a much better game). It wasn't unreasonable to expect Gears 1 level of sales.
Why does everyone think KZ2 sales are bad? I'm sure the good folks who made Okami would love to have those numbers. Same with GTA: Chinatown wars. KZ2 is a great game and I can see it reaching 2 million by June, maybe even 3-4 million buy the end of the year.clubsammich91
its not that they are bad, its that they are below expectations. especially for a game with so much advertising as kz2... okami had nowhere near the same amount of advertising.

and 2007 sales (games) for all consoles for were all but abysmal COD4 halo 3 amongst many other games made that year the opposite of abysmal

not really, the original Gears had an awesome commercial which didnt show any gameplay, but its sales were spectacular

The install base does have something to do with this, but the 360 only has about 25% more owners than the PS3, yet they have 100% more 1M+ selling games (and sells of those games are much higher on the 360). The sells for the 1M+ selling games of the 360 are more than double those on the PS3.

in-game? they may have used the same models, but there was nothing 'in-game' about it
keep in mind that a TON of PS3 titles are going to have legs for the long run (continuous sales) simply because of the fact that more people will have a PS3 after the price cut and idiots aren't using the "Ps3 has no games" excuse anymore. In addition, there are likely to be cheaper prices and discounts on these games on sites like amazon due to them being out for a while.

Its certainly better than Army of two and sold less (vs 360 version only)
Army of Two had an interesting concept, being made specifically as a co-op experience and was a pretty good game. Killzone 2 was hyped to no end but in the end is another FPS coming off the heals of Halo 3, Call of Duty 4, World at War, Rsistance 2, etc. It doesn't bring anything new to the table other than pretty graphics. In fact, all of its hype was based on the CG trailer shown in 2005, with everyone going ga-ga over the graphics.[QUOTE="AnnoyedDragon"]

And how many units needs to be sold in order for profit for the developers?Good question, my guess is nobody knows. I don't think the $60 million has been proven (could be wrong), and nobody knows exactly how much the dev gets from each copy sold (could probably be as low as $10-15, maybe lower). Also, the engine created could no doubt, be reused, in doing so, saving more money in future 1st party game production.

You want Sony to provide every story with signed affidavits from all the board, scanned in and provided as part of the story? :? Its pretty clear that whomever they spoke to must have known what the article was going to say. From that article:
"First week sales of Killzone 2 are expected to exceed previous Sony titles such as LittleBigPlanet, Resistance 2 and GT5 Prologue
Brett Walton 25th Feb 2009
VGChartz today recieved confirmation in a discussion with Sony Computer Entertainment America that Killzone 2 is the highest pre-ordered first party PS3 title to date. SCEA looked at the pre-order data two weeks out from launch for Killzone 2 and measured it against the same timeframe for its other major first-party titles including LittleBigPlanet, Resistance 2 and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue"
How much clearer can that be?!?!?!
EDIT and Nike earlier (and somewhat unfairly, no apology necessary) you accused me of something, well from your responses let me ask you something. Does it hurt you for some reason to accept that Sony mispresented those figures which they clearly did? Why are you defending them so vigourously? Do they pay you a wage or something?
