dont give them credit for CS please, they didnt make it
but yeah, despite Valve being terrible these days, they are still one of the best hands down
I agree with that list. Sure you could switch out a few names but why bother? It's kind of hard to argue their portfolios and all 3 of them are killing it this gen.
There are few currently working developers that can successfully release a title on the same day as any of those three and be considered competition.

i would totally add bioware to that list. i cant wait to see ME3
1 Valve - Their dedication to steam and pump solid titles are godly
2 CD Projekt Red - Well known for the highly praised RPG Witcher and manage to create an amazing engine to power their latest project also FREE DLC
3 DICE - Even under the parent of EA they are going back to their roots on PC with Battlefield 3
I would have put BioWare up there but DA2 was such a let down. I hope SW TOR and Mass Effect 3 find success commercial and critically.Heartagram_03
CD project red is fantastic. i cant wait for the witcher 2
CD Project - very high quality studio that respects its fans
Blizzard Entertainment - very high quality studio that is known for excellence in many areas of gaming
Valve - Probably the most pioneering and downright awesome PC company I ever seen.
As soon as I saw the thread title, I thought of these developers.Valve- amazing games, they are always doing something new and innovating in more areas than just gameplay. They came onto the scene with the revolution called Half life and fallowed up with one of the greatest games ever made, Half life 2. then they did it again with portal, not to mention they made the best coop game ever and two of the greatest multiplayer FPS games ever, TF2 and CCS
Blizzard-They made THE e-sport with starcraft and fallowed it up with the second e-sport, starcraft 2. They are the creators of the biggest cult/alternate reality in history that shows no signs of slowing down with 11.5 million subscribers strong. not to mention warcraft and diablo.
Rockstar-sure, GTA4 is overated.... but red dead isnt and LA noire is looking to be the citizen kane of gaming jr. they also started this whole open world trend that has just recently settled down with the revolutionary GTAIII. ive got more.
yes? no? i hope this doesnt sound to dumb or preachy.

Nintendo (all its branches included) Top quality games, great innovation, I mean last year we saw, DK:R, Kirby:EY, Mario Galaxy2, Other M, and this year we will see tons more.
Rock* Incredible detailed games, and just top quality. They know how to balance gaming with a movie like experience.
Sony Entertainment- Tons of amazing new I.P's incredible innovative in terms of graphical technicality. They really pushed it this gen.
Retro Studios - Prime 3 was meh, but whatever. Other than that they've been extremely solid.
R* - Loved GTA4 and RDR. Not too excited about LA Noire, but it still looks like it's doing many things right.
Can't really think of a solid third one, but I'm surprised I haven't seen more people mention Team Ico.
Oh man this is tough. I think I would say:
Although there are certainly others.
Personally I have to go with
Bioware- They are the WRPG KINGS!!!
Blizzard- I love them yet I hate them at the same time
Atm theres no third for me, it use to be Capcom but they've gone down hill the last 2 years.
i have been thinking about these lists and to me, it seems like the difference between say valve/blizzard and somebody like naughtydog/platinum/bungie is a few things. The former have a history of impact on the genre as a whole, innovation and consistancy over there long history. naughty dog is a great dev, but realistically they havent been phenominal for as long as valve or blizzard. uncharted 2 is an amazing game, and Uncharted 3 looks to be as amazing at least, but naughty dog just doesnt have the history to compete with giants like valve or blizzard. I think arguably rockstar and bioware are in the GIANTS catagory as well.
'cause they take their time perfecting them.I disagree with blizzard only because they dont release very many games. I like their games, and they are good but they dont release very many imo.

Well, the topic has to do with the three best devs at the moment. Not of all time. Whatever Valve and Blizzard have done over the years surpasses what they have done this gen. Half-Life 2 and World of Warcraft, the most successful game for each company that people still talk of today were both last-gen.
What do Blizzard have to show this gen? WoW expansions and StarCraft 2.
What does Valve have to show? Steam (which is a game service, it has nothing to do with the quality ofthe titles they develop)and games which they themselves didn't develop (Portal and Left 4 Dead).
So really, the argument can be made that we're (at least I am) still waiting for these two to prove that they have more than their legacy to carry their names. Meanwhile, Naughty Dog, Bungie and Platinum have really started to make a name for themselves at this moment. Just as the topic and title asks. Who is the best at the moment? Platinum, not Valve.
Valve? nah as much as they are a good store/portal maker their games just seem to be skins of the same games over and over again the smaller studios inside valve seem to be the innovative ones...Valve just coasts on 10 year old stuff.
Rockstar I'l give you but I'm sick of the GTA type games.
Blizzard? hell no I've not enjoyed a single blizzard thing in a long time.
I don't think there are best developers just developers.

Really? You think there are "just developers" but somehow Valve and Blizzard don't deserve to be "best." Despite the fact that you don't think there are "best developers just developers."But Rockstar is fine as a "best" developer despite the fact that you don't think there are best developers.
OK....
I listed Bungie not because they've made advancements for the industry with the games they made (and they have) but because they just do virtually everything you could ask from a dev, both in their games and with their community. Even though I'm not a big fan of the recent Halos campaign-wise, I can really see the care they put into every one of them.i have been thinking about these lists and to me, it seems like the difference between say valve/blizzard and somebody like naughtydog/platinum/bungie is a few things. I agree.....Blizzard hasn't made a good game since WoW: TBC IMO. Funny that year is when they started to merge with Activision..Valve? nah as much as they are a good store/portal maker their games just seem to be skins of the same games over and over again the smaller studios inside valve seem to be the innovative ones...Valve just coasts on 10 year old stuff.

I really cant understand the blind love that valve and blizzard get, they trully have the most committed fanboys in the industry.
When you look at their actual ouput this gen, its pretty thin to say the least.
[QUOTE="Mozelleple112"]He's talking about games, not movies. How many devs can compare to a 10 (MGS4) 9.0 (Peace Walker, 9.5 on IGN) 9.0 (Portable Ops) ?? That's what I thought, none. And NO, you can't just say 'nintendo' unless its the EXACT same studio making the games you mention (e.g. smg 1 & 2 but not zelda)KOjima Productions & Metal Gear Solid 4 + others don't ring a bell????

THey havent had great output compared to who?
orange box, portal 2, left 4 dead 1 and 2. Valve has shipped more games this gen than they have in the last two. those include the HL2 episodes which are two of the best playing single player fps experiences made so far, portal 1 and 2 are as close as you can get to perfect games built around a brilliant and totally original mechanic. and while its not for everbody, L4D was really really innovative in the coop arena and L4D2 on the pc is the best coop experience out there when played with friends.
even if you dont like there games, you cant say that they havent had great output this gen. clearly these are opinions, and you are right, valve gets a close to absurd amount of love, but to me it seems totally deserved.

MGS4 is awesome, amazing way to end the series. i really didnt like the psp games, they still control like arse

idk, i feel like bungie has never been as great as they were when halo 1 came out. they make great games. but to some degree theyve been making the same game. I cant tell you how many times ive said or heard some one else say when asked how a halo game is the answer has been "well, its definately a halo game"(i apologize for that awful sentence.)
i am really waiting to see them tackle something different
fair point, my whole little rant was a bit off topic.
what does valve have to show? HL2 episodes, portal 1 and 2, and Left 4 dead 1 and 2.
Naughty dog has Uncharted 1 (which really isnt very good on some basic levels) and Uncharted 2 (which is utterly fantastic in almost every way)
