It makes sense for any console maker to get an established series over an unproven one. There are some guaranteed sales that way.

If Microsoft is going to throw money around they should be much smarter about it. EA can nab the NFL, why can't MS buy the rights to Fifa or the NBA? Why this Tomb Raider game--it wasn't that great to begin with.

But you could possibly make more money not doing that.

1. More ppl would buy the game.

2. as it seems less ppl would be pissed for your next go around when you enter the multiplats again

He's even pissed off that Bayo 2 is a Wii U exclusive. I guess he would rather not have the game made at all, just because its not on his Sony box.

Now that MS's careful statements have shown exactly what they paid for I'm honestly surprised the XBox fans aren't upset.

Every platform has a budget, and Spencer chose to spend a chunk of his not on improving his own platform by adding a game, expansion, dlc, or even a desired console feature, but on slowing the release of a game on other platforms. Does this make life better for his customers? Nope. Will it convince many to buy an XBone? Nope, and even less likely to help since it's still coming to 360 at the same time.

So he just blew a wad of cash to pretend his platform has something unique for a few weeks. And to even get THAT much out of it he has to spend the next year and a half trying to avoid questions or answering them with BS PR speak that everyone has by now learned to decipher. That sounds miserable. Just about the biggest waste of resources I can think of.

I've made no secret that I think Spencer has done a fantastic job bringing XBox back to respectability and far faster than I thought possible. But this is a move with no winners, one I doubt even he could defend if pinned down on the matter.

Fail. Dark Souls isn't a Sony exclusive. And if you meant Demon's Souls, it's not the same thing. If it weren't for Sony, Demon's Souls wouldn't even have been made in the first place, not to be confused with a previously multiplatform franchise like Tomb Raider which had support from gamers of different platforms, many of whom will not have the chance to play the sequel despite supporting its predecessor. Bloodborne is the same as Demon's Souls. It's a new IP, and there's nothing wrong with a company funding the development of a new IP, and mandating that it be exclusive. At least you're not screwing fans of the franchise who have supported it previously.

One of the reasons I don't watch AngryJoe is he can't seem to acknowledge that these are businesses and not your best friend or buddy. I mean sure the purpose of his channel is to make youthful videos on his anger at corporations. But he's an idiot for buying the game thinking it would just continue as a multiplatform game. It's unfortunate but it hasn't happened before.

Has something like this ever happened before where I company completely abandons its fanbase and release its squeal game on a relatively new platform? I mean TR was on 360,PS3,PC,PS4, and X1. All supported the TR reboot to some extent. I own an X1, and I liked the TR reboot, but I cant see myself getting the game, I cant support this type of thing in gaming. If its only timed exclusive then its not really a big deal then. I know the 1st game didnt sell as expected, so in a way this could be financial security for the dev in case the game didnt sell as expected again. But yeah I'd imagine a lot of people cant be happy about this, especially if they liked the 1st game, and dont have an x1 now. Also I think this is on 360 as well, at least I remember reading it was a crossgen game.

To be fair I think he's more upset about the way they're going about it, and if you were a TR fan the PR statement was a slap to the face. They need to come right out and say if it's a timed exclusive or flat out exclusive exclusive that will never see the light of day on the PC or PS4.

No Man's Sky which was also PC first and foremost. Now it's timed exclusive on the PS4. lol!!

No more different then the way Kojima handled MGS:GZ on the XB1. Literally bashing the game before it was released. Saying it will play better on the PS4. Then they wonder why sales were low on the XB1 version. lol!! Bunch of hypocritical idiots. They didn't even use the updated SDK for the game and probably still won't for MGSV:PP.

That's different Sony just paid for it to come to the PS4 not to keep it off the PC. They were also very clear on the Timed part.

That's because the xbone is an order of magnitude weaker than the ps4.

That's just the cold hard truth, Kojima actually was upfront about it which should be commended. He didn't pull an ubisoft.

I've lost all respect for Crystal Dynamics & Square Enix, I don't care if they do exclusives or timed exclusives on new IP or DLC but on existing multi platform games is just wrong, especially a game like Tomb Raider that has a long history of being multi platform.

I can see it from Microsoft's perspective they know they are buying into a game that has a history and has good developers at the helm, they think they can sway some customers from PS4, I don't see it myself, all that is going to happen is PS4 and PC people just wont be able to buy the game and people who buy all platforms will buy it on Xbox One (if they are not pissed off that is).

Tomb Raider is a good game, but it's nothing that hasn't been done before. But unless they outright say it's an exclusive for Xbox One and 100% not a timed exclusive then I won't believe them.

Can't say I blame Microsoft for purchasing TR, or hate them for it really. In the end, Microsoft is still a business just as much as Sony and business isn't always pretty or friendly.

As for Crystal's PR statement, yeah on one hand it's kind of silly, but on the other hand it's friggin PR. Since when has PR not been a bunch of BS or truth twisting? Doesn't mean it's right obviously but its something I've learned to not really take personally or fret too much over either.

Overall meh on the this whole TR ordeal.

I couldn't watch more than a minute. It's like watching a kid angry at the store when their parents don't buy em candy.

I can understand being bummed that Rise of the Tomb Raider is exclusive to Xbox One if you don't have one(still no word on if it's on 360? Cuz if it is then, well... Maybe you don't have much excuse because 360 can be bought on the cheap these days), but cmon, throwing a btch fit like this? The only people I can see getting mad are like hardcore Tomb Raider fans and I'd imagine they'd have waited for the game to come out before getting the system they were going to play it on.

But let's be honest here, if you're a genuine hardcore Tomb Raider fan you'd probably already be fed up with having the franchise be rebooted like two and a half times and the latest iteration barely having puzzles.

Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix(the latter of which was the one to make the choice on where the game goes and why) don't owe anyone anything and are free to release their games they wish.

Angry Joe was talking about how he tried to convince everyone to buy the new Tomb Raider and he felt betrayed by their decision. That's an incredible sense of entitlement and self importance that's completely undeserved and pathetic. I doubt the parties involved are even aware of this man's existence and I doubt even more so that a significant amount of people(or anyone at all) purchased the last Tomb Raider because of him.

Let's be realistic here though, this wouldn't be happening unless there was some very significant benefit to Square or Crystal Dynamics. It could very well be the case that much like Bayonetta 2 with Nintendo that without the assistance of Microsoft this game wouldn't be even happening when 6 million units sold for the last Tomb Raider wasn't cutting it. It's possible the funding and marketing Microsoft helps reduce the need to sell as much.

Or Microsoft could have just tossed so much money at Square that they didn't need the Playstation version.

Or maybe it's a timed exclusive. If that's the case why would they even talk about possible other versions? The whole goal of timed exclusivity is to increase the playerbase for that particular genre of franchise on that particular system.

There are all sort of reason something like this could happen and you aren't always entitled to an explanation. Just please try and be a mature adult about it, unlike Angry Joe here. Square Enix and Microsoft aren't doing this to piss people off. Yeah, it's for money. It's a business, what did you really expect?

I have a Xbox One so I dont care, in fact I love this move, people want to play the new TR then buy a Xbox, simple as that. Before people say they dont care about the game, pffft, that's a load of crap, look at how butthurt everyone is over it, threads galore on every website. Sony fanboys didnt get a lollipop while Xbox fans did, now they are all crying.

I have a feeling it was a cancelled rant because in his controversies video, he notes the real situation in Nintendo funding development of the game.

There were several that made the leap at the beginning of last gen. Think of Ace Combat 6 going to 360... that iteration never did make it's way to PS3 (and sadly he next multiform game they made basically destroyed the franchise).

Of course there were reasons for it last gen, since the PS3 legitimately wasn't ready yet in 2005-2006, and that pobably altered some plans (i.e. it was Sony's fault they weren't multiplat, not that there was any special deal signed). The Tomb Raider thing is truly bizarre, since it was already announced and I'm sure everyone was assuming it was multiplatform. Hell, the PS4 version might have already been well into developed before the deal with MS was struck.

Its obvious M$ was desparate for their own Uncharted so they went and got Tomb Raider

Honestly, I respect Joe and am a fan of his work, but this outcry is PAST Bayonetta 2 levels of bullshit! I understand the frustration in not getting a sequel to a game on your favorite system (oh boy, do I know it!), but it's not uncommon and he should know this. Not to mention, it's hypocritical of cows to call out rival companies to moneyhat, but yet their god Sony is okay to get away with it.

The PS4 is magnitudes better on paper but it hasn't shown anything that makes it far more amazing than an Xbox.

We could talk about the minimal graphic differences but I don't remember console players caring about graphics in the first place considering people's arguments against PC games as "consolites".

There are quite a handful of games coming to the PS4 that are in the same situation as being sequels, or new games from devs who would have previously made the games multiplat, and/or released all versions at the same time. None of them get the same amount of hate.

I wouldn't call second son slight, that's still the best looking console game thus far to me.

Clearly MS made a good decision since all the Sony boys are butt hurt. Is it a good decision for Crystal? Nope. Now if you wanna play TROTTR you will have to own a Xbox One...MS should do this more. They have the money.
