[QUOTE="rcignoni"]Looks interesting, but Ubisoft being involved means I'm not getting excited.AncientDozer
Uh, why? By all rights, Ubisoft is reliable.

Their PC efforts have been pretty terrible. For example: strict DRM, poor optimization, delayed releases, and their games aren't extraordinary.

Does the Anno series have some sort of rule that the numbers must add up to 9 or something?

Well it looks like they got rid of alot of those problems in AC Brotherhood.

It's a shame that this game might have a crappy combat system like the last one. Why don't they just borrow the style from AoE or Total War?

Mr_BillGates

Different kind of games. Anno is a city builder, the combat is just an afterthought. It already requires a lot of managment for its city building part, if it had the same attention in the combat managment then it would be a mess.

This might be true, but only about their multiplats. Their pc exclusives (aside from few bad apples) have been very high quality

I wonder if they dare to remove churches and the need of faith seeing as it's set in 2070? I mean, it's clearly the direction modern societies are heading. Secular/non-religious.

Does anyone feel like they're trying to mimic Starcraft in some way, because that's the best selling strategy game?

I'm actually really interested to see how they'll take advantage of the sci fi setting. skrat_01
I went to preview event last friday. I'm still under NDA, so all I can say that it looks spectacular. Both graphicaly as well as gameplay-

Dawn of Discovery ( Anno ????) was my first game of the series. I absolutely love it, I cannot stress how excited I am for this one. Think I have over 60 hours clocked on Dawn, for me that is unheard of lol.

The game looks great and I loved the idea to choose the way you can develop your city: ecological or industrial.

Day one buy!

Will there be more fetch quests...? Bought 1404 several months ago but the amount of fetching quests was astonishing, I didn't bother to finish the game, stopped at 2nd (or 3rd) chapter.... (fetch the wood fetch the stone fetch the solider fetch the clothes fetch [insert name here]. graphwise it was pretty, just cannot stand the gameplay)

[QUOTE="AncientDozer"]Sometimes you need to accept change or at the very least give it a chance. Sooner or later things change and you got to come to terms with it. If nothing changes, then you risk stagnation which is bad for companies and franchises, particularly less well-known. That's a problem we gamers face is that we get so attached to games that we believe that they are "our" games and that any change to the formula is automatically terrible and goes against the "spirit" of the game. As an outsider, I obviously have no connection to Anno but I understand the sentiment. Really, it's too late to turn back now so we'll have to wait and see. The pictures, at least, are impressive and applying anything from previous games to that in mind generates an interesting image. Give it a chance. Maybe you will be surprised.JLF1

Change is good. I am still disappointed with the new setting. Anno is a niche franchise for a niche audience. They are relying on a certain number of fans to buy this. I might not be one of them for this game.

My problem is that there are far too few historical strategy games and far too many sci-fi games. Another huge issue is that the Anno franchise is based on realistic settings and ideas. It's more or less a trade sim. Having it i the future kills that illusion of realism for me.

Imagine if Starcraft 3 was sett in modern time.

I'd say that it's backwards, especially on the PC front of city builders.

I've never played the previous ones but coming to this thread has piqued my interest in the old titles of the series as well. I will see if steam has any of them on sale. This one looks really good too. Its not often that something new exposes me to potentially old goodies that i may have missed, ty TC for the preview and to other posters for strong testimonials of the previous games in the series. Just got a new gtx 570 (the nice asus one with the custom cooler) and throwing some content at it aside from crysis 2 and shogun will be a nice way to christen it.

Niche? Anno? You've got to be joking. Maybe in US (where PCgaming as a whole is niche), but in Europe it's one of the biggest PC IPs around. Before Crysis it was Anno 1701 that was the the most expensive game ever made in germany.

Anyway, people need to consider one thing. It's Blue Byte (Settlers creators) who's lead dev on this, Related Designs (makers of 1701 and 1404) are only helping out this time. Most likely it means Related itself is working on more traditional sequel atm.

I really like how 2070 looks and I welcome the nice increase in gameplay complexity as well as huge incrase in scale
