The thing is, I was bored with it. I didn't like it. At all. I really didn't. I don't care if people LOVE it so much. But the thing is, this is me. Here is me saying, "I don't like Fallout 3. In fact, I hate it." There wasn't that much of freedom that you were given in Fallout 1 and 2. But it was practically nonexistant in Fallout 3 when compared to the previous iterations.

I'm going to say this, "I don't like Fallout 3. In fact, I hate it."

There is a big difference between saying you didn't like something, and claiming it's terrible and a failure. One day you will understand this.

Oh I do undesrtand the huge difference. But again, my opinion. One day you will understand this.

You obviously don't. Anyways, your kindergarten teacher lied to you...all opinions are not equally valid.

Yeah, it's really overrated. But not for that reason.

It's mostly because the game feels like it's written by and for 6 year olds. Oh, and its horribly unbalanced stat-system. And the oddly mishapen characters. And the horrid main quest.

There is no hyperbole in this comment. /sarcasm

Doesn't change how overrated the game is.

Sure it does...it clearly shows the mind set (and ridiculousness) of the people making the "overrated" claims. Yeah yeah...opinions opinions. You know in some people's opinion having someone give you a Cleveland Steamer is extremely sexy...

So, are you saying that the game doesn't have sucky writing, unbalanced stats, badly done character models and a horrible main quest? Well, if so, then I think you better not call me "ridiculous". :|

Anyway, yes, I have an opinion that the game is a horrible RPG and I'm not going to change it because some guy on a forum seems to think that his opinion is above mine. Well, that's his opinion.

Well to be honest those criticisms he made are completely valid. The game has a lot of problems from the weak writing, the poor coding on the engine, the awful combat outside using VATS, and a horrible main quest. He basically hit the nail on the head. If the problems were small then I can understand if you do overlook them, but the problems that the game carries are way too big to be ignored.

Did I miss something? Why's Subrosian defending Fallout 3?IronBass
No... just questioning why the walking / exploration was the issue. - The real "big issue" with both Anchorage and The Pitt is that they get your character stuck in a two hour quest. Fallout you can normally just walk away from a quest and go do something else - with the DLC you basically have to finish what you started. I felt "The Pitt" was quite a bit like Oblivion - it's the Arena all over again, down to the poor battling - though I liked crossing the bridge, and the moral "Twist" was at least humorous. Anchorage was far better - it was a change of scenery, a fresh local - something aesthetically different from the usual "waste". - So I agree with Zombie that "The Pitt" was just far too bland - it's more bleakness that really failed to explain how it was "Fallout" or "different" - while reminding me of some of the worst executed areas of Oblivion. Anchorage... I actually liked, just for being a change of scenary.

Well that was the problem with the DLC for Fallout 3 - they take away all of your freedom. Once you start the DLC, you're stuck in a long linear quest... it's like "well, good-bye wandering, hello grinding". Anchorage gets away with it for being a change of scenery, but Pitt was just more bleak crammed in less space, now with the dull Arena battles from Oblivion.

*kicks PC*

It sucks. My laptop can barely run Sins of the Solar Empire on Medium. So I'm stuck with a weak laptop. :(

Ah, I see. Well, it's certainly the best version of the game, with or without mods. It doesn't look perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but it still looks pretty good.

Fallout 3 was a mess from the beginning. The crap singleplayer main quest, the horrible dialouge and voice acting, the bugs and bugs and bugs are evidence of it. Its a good game, just not the masterpiece people make it out to be. An AA game at that.

[QUOTE="A_zombie"]The VATS system was fun, the exploration was boring and tiresome and annoying. Having to walk from one side to get to the far left of the map was a long painstaking process. It bored me to death. It REALLY bored me to death :| subrosian

The exploration is what makes it Fallout :|

-

Have you played Fallout 1 or 2, or enjoyed any other open-world RPGs?

Fallout 1 and 2 had a better system for exploration - the map screen and random encounter systems cut out all of the boring bits. Fallout 3 just had hours and hours of slowly jogging through an empty wasteland, which was boring.

Fallout 3 is still Fallout 3.....its not FAILout3 due to some busted DLC I hated Operation Anchorage, it was crap, linear and short the Pitt looked dull and annoying with those trog things... I want to see Broken SteelWWIAB

So...you thought that the first two DLCs were bad, but you're still optimistic about the third one? :P

Oh, and I agree with many of the above posters: it was already Failout 3, even without the DLC.
That's not to say that it was a bad game, but it was far too poorly designed/thought out/coded/written to be a 'great' game, and it definitely fails in comparison to the first two.

Other then having never hit a bug, if the main quest and dialog + voice acting is the reason you played, I guess it would be bad, but the exploration, running into quests I never knew existed, finding hidden treasures and easter eggs here and there was the biggest reason I played it. I guess you have to go about it a different way.

well not really. I'm just highly critical of those faults. The biggest merit of the game, and where I enjoyed it the most, is the exploration, and the side quests. I thought it was great (even If I agree with Planeforger that Fallout 1/2 had a better system of exploration). Never the less the finely crafted world was a very enjoyable to explore, and side quests - even if some were pretty... dumb/ill thought out, they gave you a variety of choice and opions, as a good RPG should. However when you factor in that horrible main quest which gave almost no choice, and consequence - and was poorly made in general, as well as all of the other games faults, it weighs down on the quality of the game.

Sure, if you pretend that The Witcher, Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer, Vampire: Bloodlines, etc. don't exist.

And yeah, I guess I agree with Skrat - the design flaws and poor writing could've been overlooked had the main quest been worthwhile, but it wasn't, so my overall impression of the game was quite negative.

Well this is definitely what made me enjoy the game even more, the fact I could completely forget about the main quest and focus on the world, extra quests exploration etc. I know that's not an excuse for a broken main quest but still I'd like to see even more games to put more detail in these aspects like Fallout 3 which made it great.

I really don't think the point and click exploration system in fallout 1/2 is leagues ahead of the one in 3, I mean the over world was really bad compared to this.

hahahahaha. Fallout 3 and Oblivion got good sales and a good fan base. Does it really make you feel supior **** about why it's no good? I dont think anyone truelly cares that you want to pick it apart.

They were good games. Both of them. If you dont like them you dont like them, that doesnt make the games bad. Unless your a nazi or something. GTA IV had some gnarly glitches.

Halo 3's graphics were nothing exciting.

Killzone 2 garggled the phail mouthwash and shallowed.

I could go on. Point being people will still die for those games. So just chill the freak out. Spazzes.

[QUOTE="lhughey"] I disagree. One of his main assertions was that he thought the game sucked or "failed". I was simply pointing out how his opinion is not shared with most published reviews.

Dang you have alot of post for a level 26!

Animal-Mother

Ok, first off, I say it it sucks, I've mentioned it's a great game to other people to my friends but I don't like it. At all. I really don't. Who cares about what metacritic says, I don't let other people's opinion change MINE. It's my opinion and it's how I feel about the game.

yes, question I played throught the PS3 version I know there was a level cap of 30 but whats it been raised to in 360?

The standard level cap is 20. There's an upcoming DLC addon--Broken Steel, I think. It will raise the level cap to 30.

Unfortunately opinions are what keeps the world burning, you see people are shallow and arrogant... I'm pretty sure you know this seeing as though your on a gaming website with a forum named system wars.

[QUOTE="dnuggs40"] Sure it does...it clearly shows the mind set (and ridiculousness) of the people making the "overrated" claims. Yeah yeah...opinions opinions. You know in some people's opinion having someone give you a Cleveland Steamer is extremely sexy...aliblabla2007

Well, that's his opinion.

agreed .. and not to mention totally non interesting and lame characters. Also the fact that most of the locations are pretty lame and you have to trudge through many of those to see a interesting one.
