the original Xbox HAD Halo, HAD Fable, HAD XBL, ETC...

Xbox - 24 millions
PlayStation 2 - 121,36 millions (still selling better than anyone)

QUESTION: what makes you think this time is going to be diferent?

GTA4 and PES7(already 19,2GB with no sound files)are compromised cuz no standart HDD and DVD 7GB(limit of X360 games on a DL DVD) on the X360
by the way, more than 4 millions of the total X360 sold are CORE version, no HDD, so don't even try saying that almost no one has no HDD

QUESTION: this situation is only going to get worst, how do u think MS is going to keep up with SONY specialy when PC games start coming out on blu ray/hd dvd?

i'll be back later today to check the answers...

Because it isn't 600 smackers, for one. I don't know who is going to win this console war, but at the rate things are going, the 360 has a much greater chance than the PS3.

Answer: What does that have to do with anything? Microsoft will still have Halo, Fable etc. etc. and it's still outselling the PS3 despite the inferior format.:|

Answer: PC games are still using CDs, why would they suddenly leap two generations into using Blu-Ray :|

Ugh, the whole 'gonna add a bunch of unneeded crap to make the 360 expensive approach'. PS3= $600, 360= $300, $400, $479. Get over yourself. If you want to play that way, why not add in the cost of gas it took to drive down to Best Buy to get the PS3. Hell, why not the car itself? And the electricity it sucks up, and the freacking HOUSE, etc.

ONLY b/c of MS advantage of a larger library of games imo.

If that can be toppled, then the competition is gonna look gooood this upcoming year 8)

The difference between Sony and MS is that

Sony puts everything in the box and charges 600$ For Full entertainment *Games, Movies, Music...etc*

MS puts one thing in the box and charges 400 and then they say oh and XBL 50/year oh and Elite oh and you will probably need HD-dvd and wait some Gears Maps and some of this and that.... *this i what i call a professional milking way*

This is what so many fanboys don't seem to understand. It's good for one platform to have a slew of great games...but if TWO have a slew of great things, something incredible happens;

1) The consumer is presented with more great games

2) Said console companies have incentive to produce even MORE great games with competition

Maybe the consumer doesn't want all those things the PS3 offers? Also, you need to look up what 'milking' is. It's when a company forces a consumer to buy peripheral for a product in order for it to work. In no way does Microsoft force users to purchase a Gold Live account, the Elite, the HD-DVD drive (which has nothing to do with games), etc. etc.

But hey, you're a Sony fanboy, so you'll probably just ignore this post or say 'damage control'.

I.E, 1998, the Golden AGE of gaming. Sigh...even if that ever does happen, fanboys would only keep going back and forth between each AAA game on each platform.

Because the PS3 isn't as good as the PS2 and has barely delivered on any of its promises. Games like GTA, Halo, and Gears of War on on Xbox 360, and these appealing games plus its lower price make it more appealing in general. Sony said they wanted the PS3 to be an investment? Who wants to "invest" in a gaming machine that isn't a PC? You can't upgrade it, the games at this point are just not good, and its graphics are not as good as its $400 rival, the Xbox 360, which has a userbase three times as big and growing. In fact, the userbase is growing twice as fast as the PS3's when you look at sales reports. Hell, the PS3 is even failing hard in Japan and Europe, and pretty much not doing so well in the USA.

When a brand new console sells 82k consoles in a month, something is wrong, and that console wasn't the Xbox 360. Good try.

(...)PC games are still using CDs, why would they suddenly leap two generations into using Blu-Raythirstychainsaw

Blue Dragon takes 3 DVDs, and Gears only takes 1 cuz it has 8 hours game play..
and with the new high end graphic cards games will sure still coming out on CDs, by the way, tell me 1 resent game that cames on CDs?

Ugh, the whole 'gonna add a bunch of unneeded crap to make the 360 expensive approach'. PS3= $600, 360= $300, $400, $479. Get over yourself. PS3 is more expencive cuz it does more stuff, as more equipment like HDmovies drive and its more powerfull..

gas and the car itself you also need too get a  X360

Electricity?
Looked up at the PS3 power rating. It's 3.2A at 120V. That's 384W. That's a lot, right?
The 360 power supply brick is 5A at 120V. That's 600W. add the HD DVD (it has its own power brick) and the quick charge...

HOUSE?
X360 + its power brick alone is bigger than the PS3, and the X360 still have ALOT of other stuff... not to mention extrely noisy..

More like SELF ownage there on Kane's part. This FLAWED argument is the ONLY thing sony fanboys have to counter X360's price advantage. And despite the fact that is NEVER works, they'll keep on using it. the HD DVD, Wi Fi adapter and Quick Charge kits are NOT requirements - but this must be TOO SIMPLE for them to understand  You can buy the Pro version and game right out of the box. Most of them have game bundles, plus 3 months Live trial so you can download tons of demos to try out. With the PS3, you still have to buy a full game.

Thats odd I didn't buy XBL Gold (sliver is free), HD-DVD, or any of the other optional stuff and my 360 still works. Sofar the only accessories I got for my 360 is XBL gold ($50) and the Quick Charge Kit ($30); however with the Quick Charge Kit, I also use my wireless 360 controler for my PC (not not sure if it should be fully counted). For the Gears maps, sure it sucks they cost money, but they will be free with the upcoming update

What 360 fans fail to realize is, when people start to compare(keyword) the 360 to the PS3 then the price point makes sense. Sure, the extra stuff is not needed for gaming. From a simple stand point of which system offers more for less clearly the PS3 wins.

To average consumers the 360 is cheaper. Not everyone who buys a console is looking for all the extras. You can't assume that everyone who buys a 360 is paying for online, wi-fi, hd-dvd drive,quick-charge etc. For the people who want those things, the ps3 is cheaper.

Ownage approved!

What 360 fans fail to realize is, when people start to compare(keyword) the 360 to the PS3 then the price point makes sense. Sure, the extra stuff is not needed for gaming. From a simple stand point of which system offers more for less clearly the PS3 wins.

And since the number of people who have an HDTV is still at less than 20% (a year ago when this was discussed the stat was at 15%, so couldn't have gone up by that much), so how many people NEED a hidef movie player in their gaming console? I connect to live with ethernet cable and.... you're NOT gonna believe this but it actually WORKS :o

I'm not saying PS3 isn't priced accordingly for what it offers, but the flawed logic of Sony fanboys is, that all that stuff is NEEDED. It isn't and for the MAJORITY of gamers who don't need it, they want to save money on features they won't use.

The problem with the PS3 is alot of the stuff I don't need and don't want to spend $600 on. WiFi, I have a network Hub in my room and have network cable out the yinyan. HDMI, my HDTV doesn't have HDMI plug. since they use the Blu-Ray fromat I kinda need it, but not really interested in the next-gen DVD format (the old DVD is doing just fine). Sure when you compare the price of all the addons for the 360 it is over $600, but alot of them I don't want (and would be useless in some cases)

[QUOTE="Kane04"]

the original Xbox HAD Halo, HAD Fable, HAD XBL, ETC...

QUESTION: this situation is only going to get worst, how do u think MS is going to keep up with SONY specialy when PC games start coming out on blu ray/hd dvd?

i'll be back later today to check the answers...

thirstychainsaw

Answer: What does that have to do with anything? Microsoft will still have Halo, Fable etc. etc. and it's still outselling the PS3 despite the inferior format.:|

Answer: PC games are still using CDs, why would they suddenly leap two generations into using Blu-Ray :|

Most PC games are on DVD, there are hardly any that use CD's anymore and those that do are only because the developer was too lazy to store the game on a single DVD. I hate it when companies put games like Battle for Middle Earth 2 on like 6 CD's instead of DVD's.

[QUOTE="thirstychainsaw"](...)PC games are still using CDs, why would they suddenly leap two generations into using Blu-RayKane04

If you want to play that way, why not add in the cost of gas it took to drive down to Best Buy to get the PS3. Hell, why not the car itself? And the electricity it sucks up, and the freacking HOUSE, etc. Verge_6

You have to much time on your hands.

The PS3 comes with all the things that are extra on the 360. Yes they are optional but for the extra 200 dollars you get a console with hardware that would stack up to well over 400 dollars in extras.

And THAT is the most important thing. Gamecube was last place last gen but that didn't diminish the enjoyment those gamers got out of it.

Actually it did a bit, for me anyway. There were not nearly enough releases for my liking and that was due to sales. The fact it was difficult to actually find titles to buy /rent because it saw so little shelf space was a pain too.

How does the PS3 offer more than 360?

Does it have downloadable Hd shows and movies? Does it allow crossplatform play with the computer?

It sure doesn't offer more games. Does it offer more exclusives. nope 360 wins by a landslide in games at this point and thats why we buy game systems... to play games (I hope you don't buy a system because you like the companies name)

Sony forced those who bought the PS3 to buy a unneeded bluray player because that was their only chance to keep up with HD DVD. Other than the PS3 bluray systems are doing horrible compared to HD dVD.

As far as last gen sales go PS2 had a large head start and microsoft was a newcommer to the gaming industry.

Verge_6

Maybe the consumer doesn't want all those things the PS3 offers? Also, you need to look up what 'milking' is. It's when a company forces a consumer to buy peripheral for a product in order for it to work. In no way does Microsoft force users to purchase a Gold Live account, the Elite, the HD-DVD drive (which has nothing to do with games), etc. etc.

But hey, you're a Sony fanboy, so you'll probably just ignore this post or say 'damage control'.

True Story

I have nothing but the system and a crap load of Great  Games to play on it

I understand, and kinda want HDMI myself, but I'll need to buy a new HDTV (because of my current one is lacking in that). I could also see why people want WiFi; but I don't trust it for online gaming, having a wiered connection feels better (and is faster in my case).

It is understandable that some people want the extras, some don't. All choice and preference. But this Topic is about the longterm sales between PS3 and X360. And with less people actually needing those extras, it converts to less sales because again, why do the majority of SDTV owners need or want a hidef movie player? The need influences the preference.

In longterm more people will have HDTV. Then the PS3 and Xbox360 comparisons will be come more a relevance. You have to admit the PS3 is more future proof than the 360.

We can expect only another 3-4 years on this generation. And for this one, HDTV owners will still be in the minority. By the time that has shifted to becoming the majority, we'll already be on the following generation. So we can expect a hidef media drive in the Xbox 720 when it's more useful to the larger consumer base and not drive the cost of the unit up to being out of their reach.

Which is also to say, by the time we see the shift of HDTV majority placement, PS3 will be out dated and Sony will have their PS4 to match the X720. So the "future proofing" of PS3 will seem irrelevant when it's "future features" weren't so needed in its own time, not to the larger portion of gamers anyway.
