antialiasing in consoles

ok when i get a new pc game, there is absolutely no way that i will play it without antialiasing, but when i played MGS4 on my ps3 yesterday, itt was driving me insane with all the jagged lines!!!!!! and dont get me started on 720p games on consoles!! doesnt it bother console gamers that there is no AA?

Not at all. I play games, don't watch them.

i didn't find MGS4 to be very jaggy? :? you sure it isn't your tv?

With HDMI and a big TV + playing from the couch 20 feet away from TV it's not that bad. Sure it's noticeable but it doesn't ruin the experience.

actually it cant even compete with any pc ggame i have played in the past month. and im sure its not my tv but i got to say mgs4 was probably the most least noticable out of all ps3 games but killzone 2 demo is horrid! all the jagged lines make it look so... dirty and sloppy

MGS4 was moderately jaggy, but nothing I couldn't deal with. In general, I try my best to ignore things like that.

It's something you get used to fast imo. I'm a PC gamer btw. Just like how GTAIV looks absolutely terrible, when I first put the game in I thought there was an error or maybe my TV or something then 20 minutes later I wasn't even noticing how disgusting it looks, then every now and again I'd notice and be confused :P

Now and again someone will mention how bad it looks and people say "oh well that's just a bad screenshot", which isn't true... then they'll post a bullshot.

Look at the road 10ft away, the anisotropic filtering is so low buildings and roads look unloaded

i honestly think that console developers should tone down the settings a bit and enable some anti aliasing cuz really, it makes things look so good!

AA is great and all, but if it bothers you so much that you cant play games without it. your better off just watching moviesshadow_hosi

Maybe this list of games with AA would help you.

Half the games this gen have 2xAA or no AA, some have 4xAA, and different types like MSAA and Quincunx AA but games this gen don't go beyond 4xAA.

I'm ok with it though, unless multiplats don't get it equally.

What type of TV are you playing the game on ? I never noticed any antialising problem with MGS4. Most of the time a good HDTV will enhance the picture quality.

Honestly have u seen a game with amazing graphics that is actually a horrible game? i take it u dont play pc cuz the differnces in some multiplats are vast and on exclusives, well u cant even come close to pc.

MGS4 doesn't have jaggies, atleast very few, the shadows have many though. In almost a decade of pc gaming there's only been 5-6 PC games that gave me the 'WOW-factor' and all of them were last gen, except crysis. Compared to several games on my ps3 that gave me wow factor.MGS4_GOAT

Well a lot of games do use MSAA, it's just usually 2x. The nice thing about consoles though is that you usually play pretty far from your TV, and that gives you the "natural" anti-aliasing effect. :P

Dont tell that you're using composite cable or/and SD screen. Killzone 2 have very nice QAAx2 (smooth jaggies like MSAAx4), MGS4 temporal AAx2 (strange technique but looks good).

If theres any improvements to next gen consoles, I'd like to see 16x AA. Lack of AA is easily my biggest gripe with console gaming. I'll rebuy titles on PC just to replay them without the jaggy edges.

oh aa aint that big of a problem is it? when I do switch on the old fat black brick, the last thing I check for is aa O.o

I mean you can see what it is supposed to be on the screen, and plays just fine aswell... As long as the games are good aa is a very minor thing indeed :P

i agree, MGS4 is one of those games that need AA desperatly, but the overall presentation is just so awesome that you won't care that much, play it on 1080 and this issue will be less noticable.

Im with you TC, i have to have AA in my games, even in crysis i turned down some other setting so i could have my 8x AA. i hate jaggys with a passion.ferret-gamer

i'm a pc gamer and i never play with AA. The only game i play with AA Half-life 2.

i don't notice any jaggies on my 360, but that's probably cos i play it on a 15" SDTV, my screen is too small too see any jaggies on,loldelta3074
