I'm a huge 360 fan and think the PS3 is crap, but now I'm worried that this "Home" system (that sort of home page for the PS3 where you have a character that walks around and interacts with other players walking around etc.) might be incredible and might even make the PS3 better than the 360.

Any opinions?

As long as the PS3 can pump out quality titles, most people could care less about "PSHome".

Home will just be a nice little feature for PS3 owners. I don't think it will be anything really amazing when it launches, and I don't think it will help it in sales either.

Apples and Oranges, XBL is making games better, you play over XBL, PSHome is just an avatar running around a room, no interaction with games.

PSHome is a very interesting concept and I am looking forward to it, but games are what matters and I don't see this making games better.

Competition is good for the consumer, even the SW fanboys. That said, I'm not that excited about Home but innovation is never a bad thing. If it doesn't work out, no big deal; if it's a success, it'll be good for all gamers by upping the ante for MS and Ninty.

Wow...just wow. This reads just like flamebait.

If you are serious, Home is what you put into it. Like MySpace. Some people just use it to chat, and for them, Home will be a nice side thing. Some people hate it, and for those people, Home will be useless, and some people are addicted to MySpace, and for those people, Home will become a second life.

Its a nice add on feature, and its great that Sony is trying to make its online better, but Home is still untested. It could be just the thing console gaming needs, or it could fail. At least they are trying though.

I awlays thought it was free.

If it is free, and you have this great online feature which plays out like the Sims, I can't help but wonder why does Xbox Live cost?

In terms of XBL, your fee is more towards allowing MS to get publishers to do what it wants them to do in the online space, via financial support and help.

Without a fee, it would be harder to get developers to work extra implementing Live functionality, Achievements, etc. If PSN can come out, and get every developer to unify PSN and "Trophies", then the fee will seem superfluous.

But Virtual Tennis showed why XBL costs money, since the 360 version got online play, while the PS3 went without.

In terms of functionality, what does Home really bring to the table that XBL doesn't already have?

The ability to share media with friends from your "apartment".  That and 3D interface are the only major thing I can think of.

Otherwise, feature for feature, XBL still has more going for it than PSN.

They are apples to oranges. One is a system which is setup to allow for a unified online gaming experience (see that word "gaming"?) while the other is designed to be a virtual world in which you can interact with other gamers in a social environment (notice that lack of the word "gaming"?).

They are very different things, designed for extremely different purposes.

From what has been reported... Whether it be a rumor or true... You will have to pay for items in the game. Like close, house, furniture, ext.

I don't have XBL. Because I have 56k. $50 a year is nothing. People have phone bills bigger then $50 a month. XBL is rated as the top online service for consoles.

It should go without saying that this is based on what we currently know about Home.  I'm also assuming that any noteworthy features would have been demo'd or bullet-pointed during the Home presentation or in any subsequent interviews or press releases.

Home will be the next evoluition in online console gaming, I think the blade system of XBOX Live will become dated quite soon after HOME launch. I expect Microsoft to follow suit quite soon(remember Microsoft said HDMI was not needed?)

It's a nice feature but it's not a game.  If you have FF, god of war, MGS and DMC sitting on your coffee table... will you even log into PS Home? If so I feel bad for you.

Well, if you really follow what was presented about Home you'll know it's pretty much XBL with a highly social envioronment. Will I say it's better? No, I haven't tried it. This goes without saying you can't say XBL is something more when you haven't tried also. Agree?

didn't sony hype their AOL/SONY partnership as an xbox live killer... even after all the hype and presentation and N/A sales, it NEVER happened....

point is; you REALLY need to wait to see what you get before you hype it..

Haha, no ! I don't understand why cows are hyping Home. It's got the features that live has, but you can't do it while playing games, and then...it's kinda pointless =/ And building your own room, and showing of trophys...isn't that ...just wierd ? I think so at least.

[QUOTE="venture00"]No because it doesnt make it any similar to xboxliveKhansoul

him no like english......grrrr

Home will be the next evoluition in online console gaming, I think the blade system of XBOX Live will become dated quite soon after HOME launch. I expect Microsoft to follow suit quite soon(remember Microsoft said HDMI was not needed?)

As is always the case in interface design, easy andn quick access to features will always be a priority.  Home is basically trying to replace a menu-based system.  It remains to be seen if Home can be just as fast and easy as XBL's blade system.

I have a feeling that once the dust has settled, people mainly concerned with accessing features will just go back to the XMB.

didn't sony hype their AOL/SONY partnership as an xbox live killer... even after all the hype and presentation and N/A sales, it NEVER happened....

point is; you REALLY need to wait to see what you get before you hype it..

seriously. ;)

Wow...that AOL/SONY deal happen in 2000. Xbox live was out then? And you seriously have a connatation about me that really making you look silly. I'm not even hyping the thing. I'm just trying to correct the misguided about home. Some feel like it's has nothing to do with gaming. Which is not true.

You keep telling yourself they're apples and oranges. Click your heels three times too, and you could be home.

shungokustasu

They are apples to oranges. One is a system which is setup to allow for a unified online gaming experience (see that word "gaming"?) while the other is designed to be a virtual world in which you can interact with other gamers in a social environment (notice that lack of the word "gaming"?).

They are very different things, designed for extremely different purposes.

*shakes head* yes, sure it is...

Tell me how they are the same then.

I guess you don't know that Home is played over PS Network. It has the same features of PS Network inside Home.

XBL is designed to get you connected to a unified friend list in any game, at any time, easily.

That is not what Home and PSN are going for. Home especially. Home is a virtual world designed to make for social interacting and digital lives.

Those are not the same thing. If yu think they are, you are the one who has not been following Home and what it is about.

That is optional, don't download it. Wait, someone like you will never get to experience HOME. Either way it is a step in the right direction.

In terms of functionality, what does Home really bring to the table that XBL doesn't already have?

The ability to share media with friends from your "apartment". That and 3D interface are the only major thing I can think of.

Otherwise, feature for feature, XBL still has more going for it than PSN.

shungokustasu

You don't know all the features that Home has, yet you say XBL still has more going for it. Think about that real hard. "I like Texas more than Kansas, but I never been to Kansas..."

LOL,Owned.

Agreed. Free options are always welcome.

They still don't work the same. And that is not what Home is going to fix. Home is not a game, its not a PSN gameplay feature. It is a digital world that users can use to mingle, meet people, customize their "apartment", see concerts, and play little mini games in a lounge, while the possibility of larger content (movies, etc) is there.

Its not a game, and its not competition to XBL. They are different systems trying to do different things.

You do know you'll be able to invite friends to games in Home, right?Â
