You should try BattleStar Galactica: Beyond the Red Line, It's only release is a demo at the moment, but it's looking very promising.

X3: Reunion - That is if you don't mind losing your life to a game.

Darkstar One - If you want to play a really nice looking version of Elite.

We are talking PC right? Nothing worth even looking at on consoles.

X3: Reunion is the closest thing to a Spaceship Simulator.

Independence War 2 is one of the more sim-like space "sims" due to its flight model, though that doesn't mean that more arcadey titles like Freespace aren't composed of undescribable awesomeness. There's also Allegiance if you're looking for some RTS mingled with your space combat.

This game is AMAZING. IMO best game ever. Seriously, go out and play it. But definitely visit the egosoft forums first and read like all the tutorials because X3 is also one of the hardest games to learn.

But now for me its worth every moment. It seems like I go on an X3 binge for about a month 3 or 4 times a year.

You'd like a Space Simulator?
I think there's only one current space simulator. It's downloadable only for the PC and it's free.

If you were after something that simulates star wars or star trek then perhaps you should have asked for a "space shooter" and not a space simulator.

To anyone who disagree's with that rule of ****fication, simulator's are usually for people wanting interactive software that is advanced and as true to life as possible so they end up playing a highly complicated software program like Orbiter or Microsoft's Flight Simulator, not something trying to repoduce a fantasy film.

Not true. Not every genre can be judged by it's name alone. Otherwise every game would be a RPG, as you play some role in it.

Rogue Leader is a space shooter, Freespace2 is a space-sim. It doesn't mean it's truly realistic, it's just too complex to be called a shooter. Just like Mechwarrior is a "mech sim".

SF sims are separated from shooters by their complexity, not realism

Go no further then Freespace 2... Arguably the best space sim of all time, its a free and legal download now.. You can get it at the forums of www.hard-light.net they have a heavily modded version there for the pc... It is modded from graphics to entire campaigns.. Literally a possible hundreds of hours of game play... If you want a taste of it.. Click the link in my sig.
