Dont think I need to say much more...the title is pretty self explanatory. I just figure that if Pc is generating by far and away the most revenue and ive seen people claim its not all because of WoW and other subscription based games surely it must outsell the consoles in a good proportion of multiplats...which tbh i dont think it does. Please back up any claims with evidence! I dont want any "this was always a pc game so it obviously sold more on pc" without proof!

Multiplats usually sell better on the consoles, especially if the game is console oriented,PC games with console versions that sold better on the PC would be Metro 2033,The Orange Box,L4D/L4D2 and maybe Battlefield BC2.

Probably a few others but I don´t really follow the numbers so I don´t really know. Maybe Dragon Age as well,I don´t know.

The PC games that sell the most are in most cases PC exclusives.

I read that it sold more on PC, although I don't know if the source was legitimate or not.

It's been on the top sellers list on Steam for quite a while though now.

well... Pc games do better than multiplat games.. take for instance Dawn of War 2

Dawn Of War II Tops Global PC Sales

Dawn of War II didn't just do big business in the US. It's done big business the world over, with publishers THQ announcing that game went straight to #1 across most of the Western world.

Calling upon the same global sales data that we used to get those handy worldwide sales charts from, it's been revealed that upon release, the game went to the top spot in the US, Britain, France, Germany, Spain and Australia.

In case you missed our review, such success is entirely deserved.

look at Sega's success with them releasing pc centric titles

Sega: PC sales are stronger than reported

Growing digital sales mean that the charts don't tell the full PC games story

Publishing giant Sega has defended PC gaming, calling it a strong and vital market for the games industry.

Physical retail sales of PC games are continuing to slide in 2010, but Sega's UK MD John Clark says that isn't a fair representation of the market – with digital sales now accounting for a large proportion of revenue.

"The PC market is third in terms of its year-on-year performance with a decline of 26 per cent, but this doesn't really reflect the full picture," said Clark.

"The PC digital download business is now a viable sector but somewhat invisible as it's not yet covered by Chart-Track. The PC market overall is actually performing much better than is currently reported and remains a vital and strong sector to be involved in."

Sega was the second biggest UK PC publisher in 2009, with 12 per cent share of the market.

Meanwhile, year-to-date in 2010 the company has a 12.8 per cent share of the PC games sector. This was boosted by the strong performance last month of Aliens vs Predator, Napoleon: Total War, as well as continued sales of Football Manager 2010.

"Last month's PC chart illustrates Sega's position within this sector," added Clark.

"Napoleon: Total War, Football Manager 2010 and Aliens vs Predator are three different **** of game from three different genres. They can all drive a strong, community fan base with the ability to consistently deliver endless hours of gameplay. Incidentally, they are all developed in the UK.

"For 2009, Sega was ranked the second biggest PC publisher in the market. In 2010 year-to-date, we are once again ranked second. Long may it continue."

Hard to say since Steam doesn't release it's numbers. And any numbers that are released from companies usually just bundle all 3 platforms together.

Thats hard to measure, especially considering things like steam sales, where for example L4D sold more on a half off steam sale then its entire launch week. But Valve doesnt release numbers for games on steam so we really have no idea and places like NPD and Vgchartz dont track digital download services either.

Unless Dawn of War 2 is also on consoles, that has nothing to do with this topic.

I would say that BFBC2 did sell more. I wish they just have every game come out on every system, since I am incapable and unknowledgable in that department(PC)

Unless Dawn of War 2 is also on consoles, that has nothing to do with this topic.

The point he´s trying to make makes sense and it´s relevant to the discussion.

It would be relevant if the discussion was about PC sales in general. But it's not. It's about how well multiplatform games perform on the PC.

How exactly is posting about exclusives sold relevant to a topic clearly talking about multiplats?

till steam sales are tracked we will never know pc game sales. Steam is just far to big now for there to be any figure that is even close to the real total released.

I know Zeno Clash and Darwinia performed better on PC than on consoles, which is pretty predictable since PC is the indie developer refuge.

the reason the PC is generating the most revenue is because of its pc centric titles.. not because of multiplats.. the PC is its own beast and can hold its own..you are trying to disprove the fact that pc is making lots of profit by claiming that multiplats dont outsell the console version... while ignoring PC titles:|

I'm pretty sure Metro 2033 on PC has sold more than the 360 version.

Probably. Any full retail games that are new and unknown IP's usually bomb on consoles. Many console players stick to what they know, Gears, Halo, Call of Duty, etc. Most won't take the risk and buy a 60 dollar game that they know nothing about.

You can only get sales figures for some exclusives on PC, when the publisher or dev is kind enough to share. You won't find them for multiplats though. Id' say there are some though, PC/360 games like Risen or Metro that are recognised first and foremost as PC games, and strategy games obviously. I figure most big games sell better on consoles but I wouldn't be at all surprised if something like Dragon Age or Left 4 Dead sold better on PC too.

You have to take into account there are way more games available on Pc than on consoles. Steam alone has a library of over 1500games. how many games you think you have to choose when shopping for your console on a retail shop? Some multiplats do sell more on PC although most of the times consoles sell more ( all valve games sold more on Pc and probably bad company 2 if not more BC2 sold as well as consoles then there are games that are to niche for console audience and though they get released on consoles pc version sells by far more Aka tropico ) Finally there is no way now to know pc sales unless Steam,D2D,Gamersgate and Impulse start publishing sales n numbers

It's pretty hard. Even the other way around, you will have huge problems proving any multiplat actualy sold better on consoles than PC

Come now, I know that you're knowledgeable enough to understand that DD sales data doesn't get released.

Until all the DD numbers are made public we can only speculate. PC multiplats must sell well though. Devs are still releasing them on PC and most have been very vocal on how well PC sales are. Whether this is as much as consoles who knows, probably not.

Multiplats are not what get most PC gamers excited anyway, its the exclusives. THQ recently claimed DoW series has sold over 6m so far. This does include DoW and DoW 2 + expansions, not bad for a genre that has many many amazing titles and sub genres to choose from.
