I am tired of these lame BC complaints. If you want to play PS2 games, get a PS2. If you wanna play NES games, get a NES, If you wanna play 64 games, get a 64.
The past generations had no BC and no one really cared. They just kept their old systems and played them when they felt like it. Also they got a new system to play the latest new upcoming games.

That 20GB was an insult for what the ps3 was supposed to do. You install like 4 games and it would be already filled.

Wrong. The PS2 had full PS1 backwards compatibility. Obviously there couldn't have been BC on the GC because it's Nintendo's first disc format and XBOX being Microsoft's starter console. This gen however the Wii has it spot on, 100% backwards compatibility with ALL GC titles plus older gen games being made downloadable. People want it, therefore they will complain for it.

Wrong. I am not lazy like most here. My older consoles are kept in their boxes. So if I feel like playing GoldenEye, I pull out the 64 and hook it up to my old analog set and play it until I am done. I feel like playing some God of War, put the 64 away, pull out the PS2 and start playing. Whats so hard about that?
The PS3 is set up nicely at HDTV set.

I know the PS2 was the first one ot do BC.
My point is back in the day people didnt moan about the SNES having BC with the NES, and the 64 having BC with both the NES and SNES. You kept your old consoles and played them when you wanted but at the same time played the new upcoming games.
Yea the Wii has BC spot on because it is basically a Cube. The VC should not count as BC because you download them, not like you can pop in your old carts and start playing.
Complaning about BC is lame.
The 360 has limited BC so why isnt no one complaing about not being able to play 100% of all Xbox titles?
It's incredibly disappointing that they continue to support a system (PS2) that is years old. A generation old. That's the only reason I can see that would prevent establishing BC for any present and future PS3 models.
But one part of BC confuses me. Are PS1 titles playable on any of the SKUs? Is it just the PS2 games that aren't supports on the more recent models?

What about those of us with entertainment centers? It's a pain to move it in order to get behind it and run the wires everytime you want to switch a system out.
Fact is wanting BC isn't lame, both MS and Nintendo offer some form of BC. It's not asking a lot for Sony to simply meet the status quo.

Ok then watch the price go back UP and most will complain about that again. It does have BC, you can play all your PS1 games on it, so gotta count for something.
Wii is a Cube repackaged. The 360 BC is spotty and does not play every Xbox orignal ever created.

Yes the 360 BC is spotty and doesn't play everything, but it does play all the major titles and quite frankly I'd be happy with that from Sony. It's not like anyone wants BC to play the tons of shovelware the PS2 had anyway. They want GOW, MGS3, FFX, etc.

I dunno, maybe because there wearn't that many games for the XBOX to begin with. The majority of the good ones work though.
Though I did hear SW: Knights of the Old Republic didn't work.. I'd complain about that, but I have the PC version.
Far as I know yes, PS1 games can be played on all of them but the european PAL PS3s have software emulation so they don't all work. It's incredibly disappointing that they continue to support a system (PS2) that is years old. BC had been done for years before PS2. Atari anyone? Gameboy to a lesser extent. Either way, with CD/DVD it was easy for Sony to do it, so backwards coming with the PS2 is only natural considering the format.
Either way, I've always been a PC gamer, so BC is important for me on consoles which I never played. Same with all these other new players coming up. Of course, many of the best PS2 games can be quite hard to get a hold of. My sister brought a PS2 for singstar so I'm hooked up anyway.

But its the original disc, not the PSN game. I can play Jak & daxter on it to. BC is important to consumers and the 60gb had that.I feel bad for all the people who went out and got a ps3 after they ran out of the motorstorm/MGS4 bundle with backwards compatibility they used every excuse in the book for the reason why they took it out when it was really because no one was buying ps3 games so they removed it from the hardware completely. this is the only time i have ever seen in console history where the late adopters got screwed while the early adoptors got the ps3 the way it was ment to be.Vipa37really? well that makes me feel a lot better for having a 60gb. i would have liked Motorstorm but now I can get the sequel. having BC is cool :P
This link says Sony has given up on BC because there isnt a demand.

The emulation on all PS3s for PS1 compatibility is software emulation.
And yes, they all can play PS1 games.
