C'mon, updates are good!! Something which other consoles are deprived off, we will get an update for 3D Viewing, motion controls etc. Its a nice feature.SheikhMuhammad
Other consoles get updates aswell, and they dont take aslong to update.
Had my Automatic updates (PSN+) kick in just a few minutes ago, forgot i set it for this time and was wondering how the hell my PS3 was on lol. Everything was up to date so i've no idea what it was downloading ...
[QUOTE="Stevo_the_gamer"]I'm more angered at my PS3s reliability or lack there of, personally.GreenGoblin2099
YLoD??
No ylod. More like the constant freezing, overheating, and corrupting saves issues. What kind of Internet connection do you all have? I've never had speed issues with PSN. Downloads are typically remarkably fast from my experience. Guess I'm just lucky.
Likewise, 1.8GB or so file (Uncharted 2 Demo) from PSN downloaded in less than 25 minutes for me. Not sure what the complaints are, but the speed is definitely relative to your own connection speed. What kind of Internet connection do you all have? I've never had speed issues with PSN. My internet connection is fine, to put it in perspective, on the hour that the Reach beta went live i downloaded it in like 15mins (and thats with a ton of people downloading at the exact same time).
3.40 took about 20mins to download at off peak hours. Which leads me to believe that my internet connection has nothing to do with how slow PS3 updates/downloads are.

Hmm, I downloaded 3.40 as soon as it was released and it took maybe 5 minutes.[QUOTE="Snugenz"][QUOTE="caseystryker"]

I'm curious what everyones elses internet connection speed is who is complaining about these extremely slow speeds they get with PSN.

I'm on 7mb/s, but i'm not complaining, just pointing out that PSN is for me anyway, slower than average (compared to other console services and in general).
I do hate them, espcially when i get a new game and cant play it right away most fo the time
BUt is not that bad, you just wait a bit, if it was not for the desire to play my new games, i wouldnt care much anyway

My ISP is around 12MB download, and I can never get over 800k on the PSN speed test. My downloads are around a 1/3 of the time on XBL or Steam, and this is very common as there is thread after thread on various sites about PSN's slow download speeds in comparison to other services.
If you think thats a hassle try Windows, Anti-Virus, Firewall, GPU AND game updates  :lol:tomarlynyeah, Windows isn't a console.
if your using wireless, going to lan will make a fairly large difference, savagetwinkie
Not in every instance. If the WiFi is already maxing out what PSN will provide, using a LAN cable won't speed anything up.
I ran into that situation with mine. I hooked it in because I thought the router was the problem, and it wasn't. Upgrading the router did eliminate the problemI was having with the game updates disconnecting all the time, though...download speedsare still about the same.
I remember when I bought Killzone 2 as a present for a friend.
I only had an hour in which to play it before I had to go home.
We put it in his PS3, and wanted to play.
Lo and Behold, a 20 minute install, then a 30 minute PSN update.
Yeah, believe me I was pissed. (It may have been its broadband. However, he usually gets around 400KBPS in a standard download, so whatever)

PS3 firmware updates are like quaterly updates. So if you haven't turned it on in that amount of time, then expect to have a update. You know there was like 3 months or 4 months imbetween those updates you could have enjoyed your ps3 without a firmware update.
Also it took me only about 5 mins to update, not really a issue nor a issue that a thread needed to be made because of it lol.

dude it took me 24 hours to download the witcher lol, from steam.i see alot of people saying the updates take forever and i must ask do you use wifi? i stay wired and my downloads are very fast about 1 Mb/s so most updates even firmware ones generally don't take longer than 3-5 minutes. i have basic cable Internet and isn't like FiOS however i do forward my ports to ensure max speed something a recommend to those with slow speeds.
by the constant updates that are required? I haven't played my PS3 hardcore like in a couple months so today I decided I would go to GS and buy a new game for it and get back into the groove of it. Anyway, GS was closed so I came home and decided I would play a little Oblivion until tomorrow. Well, before I did that, I decided I would check the PSN for any new charms and lo and behold: MANDATORY UPDATE. i literally just updated last week. and this current update is seriously ****ed up. a video editor? i don't need that and i definitely don't need to be force fed that BS. dang. anyway, anyone else grieved at this? i figure this belonged here in SW, you guys eat this stuff up.ANNIHILISMRelax, it's 20 minutes. You'll live.

dude it took me 24 hours to download the witcher lol, from steam. Was that possibly when it was $6.00 around the same time i bought it when the servers were overloaded because of sales? I'm talking about average speeds, and if you compare xbox live, steam, and psn on an everyday basis, PSN is much, much slower. I love my PS3 and it's games, but waiting 50 mins for downloads on games that have been out for months is just sad.
