Poll Anyone else craving a PC handheld? (35 votes)

Yeah, baby, PC gaming on the go! 57%
Nah, I'll stick with my underpowered Switch, Doom port for $60, $2 for every frame per second baby! 43%

With the Switch popularity, the sells of the GPD Win and successful scams like the Smach Z, I think it's pretty obvious PC gamers really want something to take their Steam library on the go.

I wonder if we're ever going to see it happen? Who do you think can make this a reality? I believe Microsoft can come out with something really cool, slap the Xbox brand on it I don't care, I'd buy it in an instant. I'd pay up to $500 for decent hardware, maybe an AMD APU based on Ryzen + Vega.

It'll certainly help me finish the long list of pending indies from my library.

My one hour ride to work isn't so tedious that I need a laptop. I can listen to music.

Pointless, PC = keyboard and mouse.

You can't emulate it even remotely on a handheld device. That picture with league of legends on handheld is just terrible. Imagine sitting with him in the same match up instant loss. I would report him instantly.

PC handheld ?? how would nvidia make a 1080ti into a size of a microchip?? and how would I swap out graphics card, do i use pair of tweezers??. Yah I think we should just leave it to the Nintendo.

I'm sure you're aware, but just in case, Nintendo Switch is powered by a stock Nvidia Tegra X1. It's a current-gen Shield tablet with Nintendo controllers. Literally a turn-key hardware and dev solution from Nvidia.

Windows tablets or GPD Win are the only current option. Razer Edge Pro tab was available at one point, too.

I'm sure you're aware of the term "PC" , but just in case, PC allows the user to control what hardware they have installed.

Laptops and Windows 10 tablets are not PCs because you cannot swap the GPU. Interesting.

NOpe, they are called laptops for a reason. You don't see the term PC Laptop ever used have ya? you don't see the term PC Tablet have ya? just because they have windows on them doesn't make them PC's. thats why you see the term Gaming Laptops, Gaming PC's . So yah the idea of a PC Handheld is pretty stupid , if you cant' swap out parts. You might as well had said, WIndows based gaming tablet

@daredevils2k:

lol. Just in case you're too young to remember before the PDA became a "smartphone". Back in the day they had a whole category of PCs called UMPCs. OQO was the premiere model. I always wanted one, but too expensive. These go back to 2004.

OQO 2(2007):

.

.

.

.

.

.

Nintendo Switch 2017:

.

.

.

.

.

Wiki:

Tablet computer: "A tablet computer, commonly shortened to tablet, is a portable PC"

MS Tablet PC: "Microsoft Tablet PC is a term coined by Microsoft for tablet computers conforming to a set of specifications announced in 2001 by Microsoft"

UMPC: "An ultra-mobile PC[1] (ultra-mobile personal computer or UMPC) is a miniature version of a pen computer,"

Laptop: "A laptop, often called a notebook or "notebook computer", is a small, portable personal computer".

.

Handheld Windows gaming devices range from prohibitively weak(entry-level Windows tablets) to prohibitively expensive(Surface, Razer Edge Pro). GPD Win is probably the only device that strikes a decent balance. However, all these devices suffer from poor control schemes. That's where Nintendo really excelled with the Switch.

A $500 handheld PC with no dumbass keyboard, just a decent controller or even a cheap case that allows unofficial Joy-con mounting would be highly desirable.

I feel like that's what the Surface Phone should've been. Had they gone for an x86 processor instead of ARM, they could've gone for a Windows Phone that runs the full Windows 10 desktop suite. Sure, you wouldn't expect Doom 2016 to run on it, though having your lower-end library such as your DOS game collection, Disgaea 2, GZDOOM, Streets of Rogue, Crypt of the Necrodancer and Ys Seven could go a long way.

x86 is not great for making ultra portable machines. This is why windows on arm is a huge deal they have pcs with 20 plus hours of battery thanks to arm. There are few options that would make it possible. Right now the atom is a joke it can hardly run windows 10 let alone games. I have a atom tablet and it lags even on facebook. a small size system means a small battery and little to no cooling. AMD has not put out a low power apu in years and intels gpus are garbage.
