Don't get me wrong I LOVE alot of shooters, but I feel that this is the genre that suffers the most (currently) from redundancy. It's the same COD every year, Killzone, MOH, Halo (I liked Reach, but 3 AND ODST were failures) et...

Bioshock 1 was really the last FPS that I felt that truly brought something fresh to the genre, but that was a few years ago.

Do you agree? Do you disagree?

I would like to see the FPS genre take another route and try something different instead of 7-9 hour campaigns with bad stories. And stop relying on multiplayer (which is mostly good btw, I would just like something different)

I feel that you're playing the wrong shooters. Play Stalker, Fear, Crysis, and others. You'll see how great some PC shooters are compared to the generic overdone nonsense.

I guess just like how SHMUPs was in the early 80s, 2D fighters was in the arcades in the 90s, how Platformers were on consoles throughout the 90s, and now how FPSs are throughout the 00s

Yes, I have been playing Counter Strike during the holiday break and have had more fun than I've ever been playing other shooters.

Yea but when Black OPs brings in a billion in revenue I can see why. I like the MW series, it's Halo that I'm sick of.

It would be nice if there were more RPGs but they are clearly riskier for publishers.

Elder Scrolls V, Rage and Deus Ex all come out this year so I really can't complain.

Nope. It is just the generic, run-of-the-mill expeirences vastly outweigh the fresh, innovative experiences. There is plenty of room for the shooter genre to grow... just no one is really pushing it much anymore. They just want to cash in on the Call of Duty fad.

Shooter fatigue is starting to set in.

I am still excited for shooters (like Kz3), but I just not so much intrested in the genre.

Give me some more action RPGs and platformers.

Yes. I want to play KZ3 this year, but that's about it. I will likely play others anyway though, just because. It's nothing against the perspective, as I love the first person perspective. I'm just tired of being a camera with no body that has a gun shoved against the side of it throughout the whole game.

Why not drop the gun to the hip, so that hip firing is actually hip firing, and use the left trigger to have large range of aiming, where you bring it up all the way to your face, but you can shoot in any aiming position, and it gets more accurate as it gets closer to full aiming mode?

Also, how about a body, with a craning neck rather than a silly single pivot for looking around? And while we're at it, how about some close combat options outside of buttstroking some one?

BioShock was the last FPS that brought something fresh? Agh... It didn't even bring anything fresh. It was no more fresh than Halo 3, or Call of Duty 4 in that very same year. I loved all three games too... I'd say Call of Duty 4 was the freshest game of the three even if it did start some trends that many dislike.

What about games like Vanquish? Sure, it's not "first-person," but it's still a shooter, and a very fresh one. I mean, rocketing up to a giant robot and beating it to death with super-fast punches? That's seriously awesome.

Not for me. I've been playing FPSes all my life, and they're still pretty **** swell. Certain formulas are stagnating, but this is allowing devs a new opportunity for innovation.

Games like COD that are mindless shooters are old to me. I just found Battlefield Bad Company 2 and the destructable envirnments give it a different feel. I miss FPS like UT2K4 and Tribes. Quake 4 was a good one b/c some of the enemies shot things at you that were dodgable. Also, a few bosses that had patterns that had challenging patterns. More FPS need bosses like that.

Have you tried Tribes 2? If you have a decent PC you can play it for free. Theres about 40 of us on a night and around 60 on the weekends. Its a CTF multiplayer that has jetpacks and progectile weapons. The 40 & 60 ppl are on one server so its 20v20 or 30v30. Lemme know if you want to download it.

If you feel BioShock was the last shooter that brought something fresh, I think you're playing the wrong games. Firstly, while BioShock's atmosphere and setting were impressive, I didn't think it stood out in terms of gameplay at all. The RPG elements were nice, but they couldn't wash away the foul taste of the lackluster gunplay for me.

Now, if you want some fresh shooters, you should try: Stalker, Crysis, Cryostasis - Sleep of Reason, FEAR and Zeno Clash (more of a first person fighter, but I think FPS fans who want something refreshing will enjoy this). I've also found that, generally, Eastern European developers produce shooters that largely ignore the conventions we've grown so used to over the years.

Shooters have been effectively stagnant for about 5 years now. The only ones which pushed barriers were pretty much all European-developed PC exclusives with about a quarter the sales of the blockbuster multiplats. As a general rule, formulaic products tend to be the most financally efficient, and gaming's an industry.

Not really, then again I have alot of RPGS to look forward to. The only thing about FPS that's becoming exhausted really are the generic settings/gameplay. People need to shake it up a bit.

There are too many generic shooters. I'm hoping that Black Ops is the last traditional shooter I buy. Don't get me wrong, I like them, but THEY'RE ALL THE SAME!!!!! Some of them are so similar, they feature many of the same weapons, despite being from different publishers. Either something needs to change, or I'm never buying a CoD- esque shooter again.

Yep, all those games are FPS games that are that rare breed. Games that aren't trying to make it easy enough for everyone to win, and they are all great. Shattered Horizon seriously deserves more love than it's gotten. It's a shame that it has so few players.

No, I didn't say you should see your head, I said you should have a body in an FPS game, rather than be a floating camera with a gun glued to it. The craning neck was about the way the camera moves, which is on a single pivot point, and is very unnatural.

The kind that mainstream devs are pushing every year, maybe, but some of my favorite games this gen have been first person shooters. Metro 2033, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, ArmA II: Operation Arrowhead, they all brought me a first person shooter experience that felt fresh and satisfying.
