what your missing is some sort of innovation or new genre that was created...
every gen pushed the bar and gave us something different we never experienced before
this gen pretty much plays the same as the last one with better graphics....
snes and sega improved colors and sprites from the nes era
in the 32 and 64 bit era we experienced 3-d for the first time and we had real good multiplayer that went beyond just 1on1...mario64,mgs,ff7,goldeneye
in the dreamcast,ps2,gamecube,xbox era we experienced graphics that were on par with the arcade for the first time and we had sandbox games like shenmue and gta3 that had you experience a type of gaming never seen before with so much more freedom...
this gen we havnen't had that game or set of games that changed how we played except for maybe the wii...but it doesn't get any respect cuz its graphics are weak..gauranteed if wii was a powerhouse in graphics with the same control schemes it might have that effect
what we are getting is basically same experiences as last gen with much better graphics...(i haven't played mgs4 yet and my mgs bundle is coming tuesday...that may change my mind)
