Hmm, no. Some of my favourite games this gen were singleplayer only (Mass Effect 1, 2, Skyrim, Bioshock Infinite...). Same happens for multiplayer only games. I don't get why Dice, for example, insists in adding campaign modes to Battlefield series, instead of using that precious dev time on more mp modes and maps.

Some games simply don't need extra crappy modes, just to please the masses, in my opinion.

It feels like such a waste to buy a game without multiplayer, single player games could never have the value of multiplayer games. Recently I bought bioshock infinite, and I love the game but I felt ripped off hardcore, after the SP there's nothing to do so it was like a waste of money. From now on I will only rent SP only games... does anyone else feel this way? I mean many of you have to have felt ripped off by games like Vanquish, Mass Effect 1+2 and Witcher 2.

GD1551
Why? The MP is usually just a tacked on COD clone that might keep your attention for 1 hour.

Eh, I don't care about multiplayer. I even play CoD games for the campaign. Yes, seriously. The only multiplayer part of a game I played for a decent amount of time is Fifa 13. And surprisingly I find Killzone's 3 multiplayer somehow enjoyable. But I'd rather replay a campaign of a game I like after a few months (just like I watch movies I like again) instead of putting time into multiplayer. I can't understand how you can say there's no reason to come back to a singleplayer game but it's perfectly fine to do the same thing in multiplayer again and again and again and again. Probably that's just not my thing.

Again, please look at our entire conversation, I really don't understand how your statement is a reflection of what I was saying. I merely asked how many games have tacked on (aka bad) MP these days and you went on about something else.

[QUOTE="millerlight89"][QUOTE="YoshiYogurt"]I Who has this unlimited time to sit and play multiplayer? YoshiYogurt
If you pick one multiplayer game you really like, it is quite easy.

There isn't one I really like though. Halo maybe? Mario kart 7? Why would I want to play the same online over and over when there are countless single player games to finish. I own around 200 games and out of those only around 65% are finished. Massive backlog means no wasting time on multiplayer. I just prefer to play multiple games and move on rather than sit on the same game for months at a time.

What I hate about multiplayer games is even when normal people play the game and get good at it, even great, there's always these no-life losers who still beat the crap out of you and it makes you think "wow, I sure hope I don't become that guy, because he must spend every waking moment obsessed with that game".

That has nothing to do with this thread at all though, this thread is whether you will buy MP less games nor not, it's not a single player vs multiplayer thread. I personally am renting single player games from now on.

Bioshock Infinte was one of the best games I have played in the past couple of years. I really do not see how multiplayer would have made the game any better. The core of the experience lies in the world, atmosphere, art design, characters and story. It's such a rich title, multiplayer would have added nothing to it. I'm re-playing the game, trying to find all the things I walked past in my first playthrough, and it's just as exciting the 2nd time. On Topic: yes, I will continue to buy single player games. Why should we limit games to MP only? What's the gain? Some titles will have been designed to me multiplayer from scratch, some may offer a good campaign along with (more or less) robust MP, also good. Some games will be designed and best experienced as SP campaigns. I see no problem with that whatsoever, and I dislike the idea of developers feeling forced to shoehorn MP into any title even though it feels completely out of place. MP is no requirement to enjoy a game.

Tacked on bullshit? Like what?

Other than certain mainstream games which are almost specifically made to excel in MP like COD, Battlefield, Crysis, Gears of War..err...and Starcraft to name a few, most other games, despite being good games, like Bioshock, Uncharted, Metal Gear Solid, Dead Space etc. etc. have only MP as a secondary component. They do feel tacked on. It's there to make your purchase feel complete, but it's not the selling point of the game.

I don't like forced MP, the only MP games I play are games that are designed for MP, I completly forgot that new Tomb Raider and Ass creed 3 had MP and never touched the muiltiplayer in those since I had no intrest. I felt I got my money worth with those two games, as long as the single player isnt under 6 hours and Iam satisfied with it then Iam fine. Played 34 hours of Bioshcok infinte so got my moneys worth there.

No because I get bored of Multiplayer games very fast I prefer SP experiences that I will remember for years to come, SP games I can still play in years time and still have a blast. MP games all eventually have their servers shut down anyway.

Well, certain publishers (EA) shut down the servers of their old games to force people to buy the new iterations of their yearly rehases. But in most cases publishers have no control and you can create your own servers. On PC multiplayer games stay alive for many years.

I can still find servers for Call of Duty, that game is 10 years old and there have been 8 other COD games. Some other examples:

Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory (2003) still has servers and people playing

Unreal Tournament (1999)  still has servers and people playing

Battlefield 1942 (2002)  still has servers and people playing

Medal of Honor: Allied Assault (2002) still has servers and people playing

This is one of the reasons a lot of recent single player games suck. They have brainwashed people into thinking that games need a multiplayer component to hold some kind of value. So they throw together a dumbass single player campaign so that they don't have to work on things like AI and (god forbid a coherent story) What you get is a mess where neither single player or multiplayer is satisfying, or even worse where multiplayer isn't needed but is forced into the game so that they can gouge you for MP maps. screw that.

I have played some single player games (like Fallout NV and Skyrim) for hundreds of hours and come out feeling a whole lot better than running around a fuking lame map with a bunch of lunkheads screaming in my ear.

I only buy very specific games for multi-player. I prefer singularly detailed single player experiences for most games. I only need a couple of good online games to keep me satisfied.

All of those games predessors never had mp because they where games designed for single player, none of those games needed multiplayer or are designed for it, and the end result is good single player experince followed by MP that no one wants and is not very good.

Congratulations TC, you have done the near impossible.

You have united System Wars!

As for the topic at hand. I would rather have a good game that does one aspect great rather than trying to do both. As a saying goes, "Chase two rabbits and you will lose them both."

That's why I never buy ANY games at full retail.

And SP-focus games are the heart and soul of the game.

MP is simply a waste of space, and imo, should be less focused on. MP could only last that much. Unless you have a severe case of ADHD or were born post 1990.

I dont hate MP altogether. It just needs to be that secondary option.

I am actually quite against GW2... but even I know that is a much higher calibur than bloody uncharted/tombraider, bioshock 2 ect MP and everyone with any damn credibility knows this.GD1551

So because there's something better those are automatically bad right?

They are like 5-6-7 rated games compared to 8-9s in quality in the MP department. So yes, compared to the massive PC MP scene and the best of the console MP ... they are near worthless unimaginitive tacked on experiances.

Most of the games I play are single player and I usually don't play a game's multiplayer if it isn't its main focus so nope.

Its like a multiplayer game has tacked on single player looks at Battlefied 3. That has one of the worst campaigns ever, and the resourses could of been used to make more maps for MP, or making a training ground where you can mess around with vehicles to get used to them without having to go into MP to test them out.

I'm surprised so many people are even just against multiplayer games in general. There have been a ton of really excellent multiplayer games within the past few years alone.

Iam ok with games that are designed for MP, its just when developers think it would be a good idea to put forced tacked on MP to a game thats designed for SP. Just because it would add some "replay value", those resources could be used into making the SP better. Some games can have the whole package like Halo, good SP, co-op, and MP.
