It's because Gamespot has clearly changed their target audience towards a more younger and ignorant-gaming crowd; of course they will take points off for being hard.
Critisizing games for being too hard is just rediculous
It may be hard for them, but it doesn't mean it'll be hard for everyone.
That's nothing new.
Anyone remember the DMC3 review "teh degree of teh hardness  !!!!" Games can be hard but I would say Advance War: DoR is hard, it's more frustrating than anything.TiefsterExactly.
I still have msgzelda sig.

One thing I do notice:
GS reviews before 2006 were just BETTER, More informative, unbiased.
Gerstsman, Shoemaker, Kasavin, Calyco, Navarro and Ekberg were the good ones.
But do they make games bad?[QUOTE="Bigboi500"][QUOTE="D0013ER"]Hard games make burly men.Azhar85
absolutely they can....who want to play a games that can't be win....that a waste of money...ex: shinobi for ps2-that game can't be win by guts alone...
Well I must be superman when it comes to srpg's then, because I didn't find Radiant Dawn to be THAT hard, or the other Advance Wars for that matter. Just because some people can't beat the tougher games it doesn't mean a game should be considered bad imo. It lowers standards for everybody ftl.Shoemaker and Ekberg are gone? Don't use past tense! :'( Nearly scared me there...

I haven't read a review from them for awhile.
It seems as though some of Gamespots new reviewers are starting to penalize games for being to hard. WTF? Noobish reviewers like Lark Anderson and Ryan Davis have done just this in their reviews of Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn and Advance Wars: Days of Ruin. Do you think they should lower a games score for being to hard? I don't.Bigboi500

But if u think u are good enough, we never give a d**n about it..

I am NINJA WARRIOR! :PI think that medal should only be given out to a game that's extremely hard in an unfair way like Ninja Gaiden on the NES. As far as I know, Advance Wars isn't unfair in terms of difficulty.dracula_16
What confuses me about that game is that I nearly completed that, I got to the last boss. And at the time I was like 8 or something, possibly slightly younger. Yet now I have trouble with games. Maybe I just don't have the patience for newer games. Another example is Shining Force. I downloaded that for my Virtual Console and ive been playing it almost non-stop, yet even with the best gamecube games (save RE4 and Fire Emblem) my attention wasnt held for that long :?

Thank you. I have a freind who is 38 and he always tells me how hard a game is, then I play it and find out it is really just normal difficulty for me. Also that is why there is an EASY and sometimes VERY EASY settings on most games.
[QUOTE="samusarmada"]There is a fine line between a difficult challenge and unbearable frustration.

Exactly what I tried to utter. Need more coffee!
exactly, it seems as though most people on here are fine with a game that challenges them but they dont seem to understand that a game that is too hard is one that constantly frustrates the player by throwing brick wall difficulty curves at every passing section. Maybe some people enjoy replaying the same section over and over again for 3 hours, but im sure most normal people appreciate a game that tests the player while he is actually having fun.
[QUOTE="Arjdagr8"]yeah just look at uncharted, penalised for tough and plentiful enemies...what a joke.dhjohns
I hope that is not true. Not doubting you, but the enemies were the best part of Uncharted. I like how they surrounded you. Hard YES. Frustrating NO.
im dead serious, take a look at the review.
Mmm... I hate that. Hard games are fine, it's only when the game is actually UNFAIR that it should be penalized. Eg glitches, ridiculous AI, dodgy camera stopping you from beating your enemies etc. I personally find that if a game is supposed to be hard, i'm MORE inclined to buy it. (Ninja Gaiden: Black on hard mode was just plain awesome!)
One big question, why was Uncharted penalised for being supposedly hard? It's utter cake-walk compared to the likes of DMC3 and Metal Arms... (Both of which rock)
