Curious as I've always been afraid to touch a R* game after GTA IV

As good as GTA IV was, it lacked so much of the fun factor of GTA SA

Did RDR follow that curse or was RDR more like GTA?

I felt incredibly bored with GTA IV-- U have everywhere to go but u just dont want to move because nothing is of interest. If RDR is really that way then damn, what happened R*?

I don't hate GTAIV, I just think it had crucial flaws that kinda overshadowed its pros (and there are a lot of those as well). TBoGT made it so that it had more pros than its cons so it was enjoyable. RDR was overall great, I never really felt bored during my playthrough.

Please don't listen to this guy. L.A. Noire is one of the most boring games I've played in a while. I've gotten pretty far into it and just can't force myself to finish it.

I didn't like GTA IV because it was frustrating to play , but I liked RDR enough to finish it. It's solid.

I can't stand and of the Grand Theft Auto series yet I loved Red Dead Redemption. The writing was fabulous while the gunplay and mechanics for the game fit much better within the setting. It is not however a goofy game and if you are looking for a game to derp derp derp around in then I wouldn't pick Red Dead.

No. I like GTA IV, and RDR, while not nearly as fun, is ok. It gets waaaay too much praise, though. And GTA IV gets way too much hate.

I'm selling RDR. The story is trying as hard as it can to not progress the story. And the gameplay isn't as fun, and the open world isn't as interesting. I'm trying so hard to like it.

The fun factor of San Andreas. SA was just a mishmash of mini games and underdeveloped ideas that didn't work at all. I enjoyed GTAIV far more than I expected.

I wasn't really amazed by either. Rockstar has good characters but they can't tell a decent story, and the gameplay, especially in RDR's case, was either repetitive or simply boring.

I definitely didn't Hate GTA IV, but I was disappointed with it. It was still a great game though.

But yes, I did enjoy RDR quite a bit more. There was a lot more to do on the side along with story missions, I enjoyed the countryside a lot (though I like having both City and Country), the gunplay was better than GTA IV(though obviously was nothing compared to say Uncharted or Gears). The multiplayer is a ton of fun with friends, and had a wayyy better setup as far as competitive goes. There were things to spend the money on (Properties, and weapons, etc.). Being able to change the angle of the aiming reticle was a plus as well, and it controlled quite a bit better than GTA IV.

Overall RDR was better, but I still liked GTA IV quite a bit as well.

People that don't like RDR are City Slickers :P

I loved GTA 4, not sure how people found it boring. I get that it wasnt as many diversions as SA or SR, but what it DID do was extremely fun with a great story and characters. RDR was great AND it had diversions. Just took forever to get anywhere on a horse :P Exploring was very RPGish tho because you would come upon some hideouts, scout them, and take 'em down :P

I get bored of every GTA within the first 5 missions, especially 4. RDR was a game I could not put down start to finish. The setting, weapons, missions, were far more unique.

I think Rockstar refined the core gameplay and added depth to the story and characters in an attempt to appeal to the truly mature audiences GTA should be made fo instead of the teenage Scarface fans, and so it gets a lot of hate from people who like having lots to do, even if none of it is well done or balanced or fun.

Just a guess though. Also GTA IV is probably the best GTA in my opinion so I may be biased.

RDR was good but it had little to no fun factor compared to pre-GTA4 games. At least in GTA4 if you wanted to go on a killing spree you would get FBI, Army, Helicopters after you. In RDR its just the same simple enemies and provide no challenge at all to kill. My friend and I were playing it once and got up on top of a building and held off the police for over an hour with hardly an effort. We used to do that on GTA4 and it would actually be fun.

Rockstar seems like they are now more interested in making movies but don't really know how so they just make games instead

He means the ridiculousness factor. RDR was just very serious. While GTA4 was serious, it still made room for some ridiculously fun stuff.

I don't hate GTAIV as you say but I was slightly dissapointed by it. Things got rather monotonous and I didn't bother finishing it. RDR on the other hand was fantastic, solid through and through. I sold it after completion and some online play but I'm thinking about picking it up again.
