I kinda do...I miss seeing games get 9.7's, or 8.9's.

*sigh*

Do the majority here like the system in place? Or prefer the old?

I don't really care, this one seems more organized anyway. Why does 1/10 of a point matter so much?

I liked the old syhstem better. I believe it was changed because of System Wars fanboys, actually.

I guess I was just curious as to what the readers here thought.

I kind of wonder why they did it as well.

Not in the least. I don't at all miss the squabbling over a 0.1 score difference, or the arguments of numeric values applied to graphics, which is purely subjective to art direction and styIe. The 20 grade scale and medals is a vast improvement and efficient streamlining of the review system.

They probably did it to make it a lot easier for scoring, besides too many people bicker over 0.5 differences, I can't imagine 0.1 differences.

I like the fact that scales were made for graphics and other elements but honestly, what's the difference between 8.3 game and an 8.4?

I find it hard that someone can say "well, this game is just a little better than average, so I'll give it a 7.1." Why not a 7.2? what justifies that .1 increment? Scores should be rounded like they are now.

I sure don't. How much of a difference can there be between an 8.9 rated game and a 9.0 game?

My inner geek kind of misses those miniscule point differences, but ultimately it was a good idea to scrap the rigid "Gameplay, Graphics, Sound, Value, Tilt" system, since penalizing a great game solely on the basis of subpar graphics or less than stellar melodies is rather absurd. The medals get the point across so much better.

No, the old system was crap and not a clear indicator of which game is better. Twilight Princess for the Wii got an 8.8, while the GameCube version got an 8.9. GameSpot specifically stated that the Wii version was better. The reason the GameCube version scored higher was because the sound got an 8, as opposed to a 7 because of the static in the Wii Remote. So the 8.8 game was considered better. It doesn't make sense. The new system is better, but less fun. System Wars would be more exciting if Resistance got a 9.2, while Gears of War got a 9.1 or something. Oh well, though. It's still fine.

i really dont think there should be any score attached. i think i speak for the majority of people on this site, most of us can read, so why not just read the written part and make the judgement if the game is worth a purchase based on that.

No. The only difference between a 8.8 and a 9.1 is that one can be called superior in system wars...hardly a reason for such detailed scores.

the only people getting owned are the ones who spend $60 on a game because they saw it got a 9.5 but they shortly realize they dont like those kinds of games.

Nope. Stuff like 8.9 or 5.1 was retarded. I think X Play has the best reviewing system.

Remember when Jeff gave Zelda: TP an 8.8? The losers that were whining and sending him death threats probably had something to do with the new system because it was changed soon after that.

Not at all. I wish they would drop the point system altogether. The old reviewers are what I missed... long before Gerstmann was ever in charge. When reviews actually read like they were written by an adult and didn't just complain about why the reviewer didn't like the game.

most GS reviews are just the reviewers whining about whichever one of their pet hates are in each game

Scores are dumb in every single way. Reviews should stick to mentioning positive and negative only and perhaps a recommendation or not. An example is I always shut down the video reviews on Gametrailers before the sores show up, simply because I've already heard what I need to hear about the game so it doesn't matter what the score is.

No, the old review system had flaws. The tilt component for example. GameSpot basically changed it because they were tired of justifying the 0.1 incremenets they gave, and eliminating it caused far less trouble from fanboys.
