The gameplay in MGS has never been good and most of the challenge came from the bad controls and weird AI.

The bosses are all simple pattern based affairs from the NES era (yes even the sniper battles have glaringly obvious patterns to their actions) and the game lives and dies on it's over the top cutscenes.

JiveT

Everything in that post was wrong. The game has always had deep, intricate gameplay that allowed you to do eliminate people in tons of ways. The gameplay is satisfying and intense, and there is nothing wrong with the AI.

The bosses in MGS are among the best in gaming. Your argument is terrible.

lol at deep intricate gameplay are you kidding? Eliminate people in tons of ways? No and no. Let's not forget it has the worst camera in gaming history through the first three games and it wasn't until Subsistence and MGS4 they decided to fix it.

Your argument is laughable.

No, your argument is laughable

Your rebuttal to NAPK1NS' points was"no and no."

I suggest you just wave the white flag next time.

you didn't even provide any details. you have no arguement.

you can shoot gaurds in specific zones for different reactions, like disarming him or destroying his radio. 5 different grenades, each with different uses, like covering infiltration with smoke, or preventing backup arrival like electronic chaff grenades. you can select the firing mode for automatic weapons and choose whether or not to use suppressors on them. how about the fact that most of the time, there are several different methods of infiltrating a location, such as a crawl space, or an option to use a disguise?

or how about alternate cinematics, or even alternate encounters, like killing the End early on and instead of facing one supernatural sniper, you face a team of Spetsnaz snipers?

how about the CQC system, by which you can grab the enemy and choke them, slash their throat, throw them to the ground. pulling off CQC is as simple as looking at the manual and comprehending the fact that the PS controller utilizes the pressure-sensitive buttons. think about the player's ability to hold enemies up at gunpoint, and take items from them. would you rather snipe the enemy with the loud, long range Dragunov rifle, or would you rather snipe with a silenced, but less accurate assault rifle?

I shouldn't even have to explain these simple facts to you. those options are there, and different players have the opportunity to go nuts and have fun while feeling like a badass spy the whole time.

I should totally sig it. seriously, JiveT's great, unstoppable arguement against the "overrated, shallow" MGS series is "no and no". I am very impressed with that kind of reasoning.

OMG! Even though the outfit may not be real the gameplay is. It seems very seamless and extremly smooth. Also, you have total control over snake and what he does with the new controls/ camera. MGS4 will be the $h!+. I can't remember the last time I was this excited for a game.

I hate how there is no background music and just gun fire it makes it kinda boring but I kinda like how they are going for GeoW's type of gameplay which I hope they get right.BlizzardBear

Is there background music if your a soldier in the middle of a warzone? The only music to your ears would be the sounds of gun fire, bombs going off and people screaming as they're dieing.... now THAT is music.

Yeah, I don't see why it wouldn't be. Everything from graphics, animations, camera and control is exactly the same. It just reminded us how amazing this game will be IMO. The only difference from previous gameplay videos is more action. Also, we've never seen snake battle any of the new Metal Gears. Extremely impressive.

Well it was GRAW that was the first game to have the over-the-shoulder camera this gen :). It's weird that people relate that camera view only to Gears. (though Gears was probably the best at it)

Weird AI? lay off the ICE Braaaa, the AI is fine, finding footprints and following them, taking cover when being shot at, squads searching for you when spotted, looking under tables in lockers under racks etc, the controls aint bad either, the controls are actually very simple.

Your argument is laughable.

you didn't even provide any details. you have no arguement.

you can shoot gaurds in specific zones for different reactions, like disarming him or destroying his radio.

When did I bash it? All I said is that I wasn't impressed. The "options" for taking down enemies weren't that impressive.

lol at deep intricate gameplay are you kidding? Eliminate people in tons of ways? No and no. Let's not forget it has the worst camera in gaming history through the first three games and it wasn't until Subsistence and MGS4 they decided to fix it.

Your argument is laughable.

Jive, I reckoned that you just got owned. You know nothing about MGS so you assume these things right off the bat. You should really do some research before you bash a game you know NOTHING about.

How is that not impressive? If slitting the throat of an enemy without then knowing isn't freakin' amazing, then I don't know what is.

I wasn't trying to impress you. I just contradicted JiveT's statement that the gameplay was shallow.

you didn't even provide any details. you have no arguement.

you can shoot gaurds in specific zones for different reactions, like disarming him or destroying his radio.

*gulp*

I wouldn't want to be in Jive's shoes right now...

Yeah, Jive man, I think it's time to step down...

You're kidding right? No it's not, MGS isn't the only game to let you slit throats you know.

Put a porn on top of some TNT, and let a nearby guard get interested. When he gets close, detonate it and blow him sky high!

Take that, pervert!

Can't do that in other games! :)

Yeah I realize that. Why does it matter?
