Before the PC fanboys start saying anything about graphics, lets just get some of their "facts" straight.

Multiplatform games - Dominant on PC? Agreed

Best looking game - Crysis? Agreed

Over the past few years, PC has lacked in almost every other department except FPS and MMO. I have yet to play a game much like Devil May Cry, Ninja Gaiden, or God Of War. I have yet to play anything remotely similar to a game Bullfrog made (Theme Park, Theme Hospital, Dungeon Keeper), and Thrillville dont count because thats utter ****, same for fighting games (SF dont count as its not exclusive, and im on about retail games, not online free games or MUGEN). These genres are practically DEAD on PC, and before people say "oh but theyre rubbish games etc", thats not true, i rather have quality hack n slash games rather than utter rubbish like Aion, Eve Online, and half the content been released for PC.

While i still agree that I enjoy PC gaming with modding, it pisses me off that certain genres are totally dead on PC. Controllers are compatible with PCS, theres no excuse for it!

RPGs are non existant to me as i find them boring. Strategy games? Yes theyre are some, C&C, Age of Empires and Total Rome rule, but nothing outlandish like Dungeon Keeper.

Huh?...Theme hospital, park and dungeon keeper are all on the PC. Still pretty fun games too, despite their age.

Wii is also selling, but thats just a big fat fad of a console. Sales mean squat to me, im sure there has been some games that have sold very well, or have got highly rated, that you wouldve thought "man this game is so over rated". I know i have *looks at Halo*

So.. all other genres are dead because you cant find 'Theme Whatever' games? Real Time Strategy games are doing well. Modern classics like CoH and WiC have kept the genre moving and evolving. With CnC4 and Sup Com 2 about to arrive...ohhh yeah and that StarCraft 2 thing should land sometime this year as well :) Turn Based Strategy games are doing quite well with Kings Bounty picking up the legacy of Heroes of Might and Magic. Also be sure to check out the overlooked Elven Legacy for some solid old school TBS fun. Sim games? Give Tropico 3 a shot. It's pretty awesome. Anno 1401 is a damn good building game as well. Both blow Theme this and that out of the water. Anyways, for the whole themepark thing, be sure to try out the latest Roller Coaster Tycoon. For Dungeon Keeper, be sure to try out evil Genius.. it's a few years old but still a great game. Empire / god games? Try Empire: Total War. Too simple or small a scale? Try Hearts of Iron 3 and Europe Universalis 3 for some real empire building challenges. RPGs? Try Witcher, Dragon Age Origin, Risen, or Torchlight if Action RPG's is your thing. Racing? Try Dirt 2. Plays great, looks great. A solid racing game capable of competing with the top titles on the consoles. You're asking for games 'like' Devil May Cry?... why not just play Devil May Cry. It's available on the PC. Solid port, better graphics than the console counter parts. the short version, those genres are not dead, you just forgot to do a 'lil research :)

Adventure games exist almost exclusively on PC, it is one of my favorite genres, there are a ton of amazing indie games also exclusively on PC that far surpass most of the ones consoles have to offer. It has plenty of exclusives in other genres as well, such as The Witcher, which pretty much no console exclusive titles can touch in terms of western RPGs, or heck, RPGs in general.

Facebook companies are selling for 400 million $. Popcap games are getting critically received and selling tons of copies. The casual gaming market is booming on pcs.

You're right that the genre has slowed down, but apparently their still making them: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chronology_of_business_simulation_video_games

It seems the Tycoon series is still doing pretty well.

Played 90% of those games, and loved them all. As for games like Devil May Cry, theres litterally only THAT game on PC thats hack n slash adventure. Ninja Blade was absolutely rubbish, and i cant think of anything else remotely similar on PC. Also, theres NO Fighting games on PC apart from SF4. As i stated, those 2 genres are dead in particular.

Have those genres ever existed on PC in the first place? It's like if I say that consoles have no flight/helicopter/ship simulators, no MMOs, no RTSes and no "sim" FPSes like Arma and claiming that because of that consoles are dead.

Just a matter of taste really. Im sure people find MMOs and RTS more dominant and fun than hack n slash and those kind of games, and im probably the odd one who prefers the more "dead" genres :P but a few titles wouldnt hurt, and if they make games like Crysis, i can only imagine how good their fighting games and hack n slash titles would be too on PC.

The truth is, if you want Japanese games, you get a console. Lately, we have seen more of those kind of games on PC. Heck, we even had a JRPG on PC (The Last Remnant) that was not a godawful port made by some guy during their lunch break (like FF7 and FF8 were)

It would be good to have more genres on PC, but there just isn't a market for them on PC. That's like if you made a hardcore flight simulator on consoles, it would probably sell under 10 copies worldwide.

the confusion is that you're saying that *all* genres on the PC are dead outside PFS and MMO's. It's starting to look like what you're trying to day is 'I wish the PC had more fighting and action games' :).

True, but that has always been the case. Those genres have just never really been popular on the PC (Disclaimer, 'hack and slash' or 'action games' can refer to quite a bit. I'm assuming we're talking about games like Ninja Gaiden / Devil May Cry / Bayonetta here).

They might not be new, or originally PC titles, but there is a very strong online fighting game community in services like GGPO.

Not entirely. A good 8-10 years ago (P4 days), Prince Of Persia Arabian Nights and others were amongst us. Other fighting games like Last Bronx, MK4, Virtua Fighter and Battle Arena Toshiden were real catches. Now theres nothing :(

Just because Dungeon Keeper style games happen to be a very niche sub genre of the the strategy genre, doesn't mean strategy games are non existent... And there are still plenty of city building/tycoon games being developed.

The simulation community on the PC is what keeps it alive for me. ArmA 2 being the heart of shooter, many different flight sim games, realistic WWII shooters and stratagy games. Seriously it is rather expansive.

[QUOTE="Skittles_McGee"]You've yet to play a PC game like Devil May Cry? So... you didn't play DMC3 or DMC4?Disturbed123

DMC3 was absyml on PC. Was more responsive on PS2 and is an amazing game. DMC4 i played and dissapointed. Im looking for games LIKE that on PC.

It was virtually the same on PC, just not as good as other PC games by comparison. If you didn't like DMC4, then why would you want a game like it? DMC4 on PC was fantastic and much better than the console versions. So if you didn't like the best experience, why do you want more?

Im talking as a sequal stand point. Im a fan of the DMC games and DMC4 wasnt great. No doubt it played better on PC, and i did enjoy it, the LDK mode on it was amazing along with Turbo mode. What im saying i would like more games like DMC on PC, a rivalry if you will, much like PS3 has a variety of GOW, DMC, NG, HS, and Bayonetta.

Then get whatever console or system has those games? I don't get your complaint here. You aren't limited to one platform or the other, they all have their strengths

  1. Over the past few years, PC has lacked in almost every other department except FPS and MMO.
  2. I have yet to play a game much like Devil May Cry, Ninja Gaiden, or God Of War.
  3. same for fighting games (SF dont count as its not exclusive, and im on about retail games, not online free games or MUGEN).
  4. RPGs are non existant to me as i find them boring. Strategy games? Yes theyre are some, C&C, Age of Empires and Total Rome rule, but nothing outlandish like Dungeon Keeper.

  1. Hilarious how you don't even mention RTS
  2. Devil May Cry 3 & Devil May Cry 4 are both on the PC
  3. Who cares if a game is exclusive or not? Street Fighter IV and Guilty Gear are on PC and BlazBlue is apparently coming. No fighting on PC? Yeah go tell that to all the people and Pro's playing cash games on GGPO.
  4. RPG's are non existent? Fallout 3, Oblivion, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2 aren't RPGs?

Im saying PC should have games of similar genre, that is all. Excluding multi plat games, PC has a blank slate in both genres. 9 years ago, things were a little different.

You can't have everything on one system. Sure it'd be nice from a financial point of view, but it doesn't work that way.

there's Adventure, all types of strategy games , all kinds of sims, all sorts of RPGs, racing games and of course the casual game market is huge on pc turning out alot of fun games. combine that with all the fps and mmo's and theres alot of variety on the pc.

1. "Yes theyre are some, C&C, Age of Empires and Total Rome rule, but nothing outlandish like Dungeon Keeper." Learn to read.

2. Read what i said. I said games LIKE DMC3 and DMC4. I.e. NOT DEVIL MAY CRY, SOMETHING SIMILAR.

3. All Multiplats. Im talking some exclusivity titles.

3) "RPGs are non existant to me as i find them boring" Again, Learn to read.
