How many people bought it with a main intent of gaming? They're different devices that aren't directly competing with each other. Most of my friends have an iPod, but they have split decisions about the handhelds they buy. So buying a portable multimedia player hardly refrains people from buying handhelds for their gaming purposes, while buying a DS might stop you from getting a PSP or vice versa.
[QUOTE="Ontain"]the problem with using your phone to play "good" games is that they will drain your battery really fast. that's not something you want to do to your phone. they are good for playing less intensive games like bejeweled though. by contrast you can play for several hours with a DS. I mean stuff like mario kart, zelda not just 2d stuff.Omni-Gamer-I'm not sure if you know, but the iDevices have amazing battery life. You're not understanding: There are FAR more 3D games on the iPhone/iPod now than the DS. And those 3D games can be played for up to five to six hours before having to plug in. When not playing games, the devices last up to 12 hours.
I wouldn't call that "amazing", considering that the DS Lite has a 15-19 hour battery life. And the "phone" aspect of the iPhone is also going to drain your battery.
Just what is your source that iOS has more 3D games than the DS?
the ipod os is 1 million away from passing the nintendo ds in market share. No matter what apples does it seems they take the market without breaking a sweat .

enjoy taking your charger with you everywhere you go.
you compare iphone graphics to psp? the psp is about 5years old, nice comparison
internal battery = fail
you need to turn off 3G, wifi and brightness down to 0% to get 8hours gameplay.
you need to pay 90$ a month since its a phone
so you played angry birds for 10hours, oops now you cant make any calls since your battery is dead
touch screen controls for FPS games = fail
i can keep going
You do realize IOS doesn't consist of phones only right?enjoy taking your charger with you everywhere you go.

why does it matter if iphone outsells DS? DS/psp is made for gaming. Iphone/ipad/itouch/iwhatever is not.
no one buys a ipod touch for gaming unless you really really like 2D games.
when apple can get the gameplay/graphics of Godofwar wake me up.
even when games come out with the unreal engine the controlls are going to kill the gameplay
another interesting figure would be the revenue being generated from games on the iOS devices. not all apps....just games. maybe compare that to the overall revenue generated from apps. that could be one indicator on how popular games are on the ios devices..osan0
Won't work when comparing to handhelds, since apps are cheap as hell. Few months ago Apple was claiming appstore gaming overtook PSP in revenues in USA, but back then DS had still 4 times more revenue than iPhone. And while DS is still more popular handheld gaming device, I seriously doubt 4 times more people play on it in US than on iPhone.
i suppose the point im trying to make is that iphone or ipad are not really the platforms....its Ios. osan0Of course, all I'm saying is that they are like PC ie..a multipurpose devices...so hardware sales can't be directly compared to sales of dedicated gaming devices.
[QUOTE="StealthMonkey4"]Um, most of those games have recently been updated to iPhone 4 graphics which are far better than anything on the PSP. It would be good if you knew what you were talking about before posting.Well..to be honest... he might be ignorant, but it is true that iPhone gaming is on the level of browser games.MOst of those games are worse than flash games, they are overly simplistic, have PS1/N64 era graphics and terrible controls, it plays games but it doesn't share the same market as consoles do.

[QUOTE="BPoole96"]Apple should buy Nintendo
ThePlothole
That would be a horrific day.
I think it could work out. Nintendo is the only console company left in the industry thats only focus is gaming. MS and Sony are both involved in other types of electronics. Apple could buy them and with Apple's cutting edge innovation and ease of use services, they could make a hell of a console with Nintendo's franchises. All the Apple fanboys and fangirl's would automatically buy it since it's Apple, and they could really develop the online service that the Wii currently is lacking in.

it has far more games then ds and psp put together. sadly like it or not apple is here to stay .
But 95% of those games suck, and this comes from someone who went to the Apple store at 4 AM first day, waited 10 hours, found out he wouldn't get a phone, left, went to the AT & T store next Tuesday at 2:30 AM and waited until 8:00 AM to get the phone, then drove back to the Apple Store just to get a bumper.[QUOTE="ThePlothole"][QUOTE="BPoole96"]

You'd trust APPLE with gaming? Have we forgot about the Pippin already? Nay, have we forgotten how bad gaming on a Mac is? I type this from a Mac with my iPhone right next to me... they don't handle gaming well at all.Um, most of those games have recently been updated to iPhone 4 graphics which are far better than anything on the PSP. Yeah and the iPhone 4 graphics are certainly not FAR better than the PSP. Many are better, yes, but many aren't as most games haven't been updated to take advantage of more power or the Retina Vision. Very few games on my 4 honestly look better than they did on the 3G, bar the fact that the resolution is obviously better.[QUOTE="dinb"][QUOTE="StealthMonkey4"]

Imagine a console that could operate with Nintendo games as well as having access to services like Steam and a user friendly interface that appealed to not only casuals, but could attract core gamers as well with the multiplats that the Wii currently misses out on

Apple's typical idea of innovation these days is taking away buttons. They are more concerned with appearance than practicality.
This is coming from someone who used to love Apple.

Hence the macbook/pro looks nice, but has the worth price/performance of any laptop on the market.I'll agree that games aren't the main concern, but there are quite a bit that I've had a lot of fun with :D. I guess you could argue that they're cheap as hell, so I don't exactly expect some elaborate masterpiece, but they are good in their own right :P.Too bad gaming is like its fifth function and it has no games
