If you ask me, FPS are just lazy versions of GAMES in general. They can wake me when they find a way to have more character development, control of stats that can level up and change the way you play (Bioshock touched on this), an actual story line with an actual plot, etc. A game like that would sell MILLIONS of copies.
Frankly, 99% of the FPS out today are simply graphical upgrades of Wolfensteign 3D. The genre has been WAY to slow to advance, instead relying on new graphics to sell to people, and online multiplayer to make people ignore the lack of originality and innovation they just dropped $60 for.
When its GeoW im kool with thrid person but FPS all the way man! but i dont think so i kinda like FPS better maybe just cuz you can get into it more rather than looking at your dude but exception like i said was Geow CommanderTy
personally, i like the third person view better than FPS. just my opinion.

Have you played Deus Ex or System Shock 2?
If not go and buy them now.
Because these games - Deus Ex specifically is a game that is everything you mention and more.
If you can take old visuals im sure you will love em.
They are both FPS/RPGs though. But both exellent games, i'd go as far as saying some of the best games ever made...
Blame consoles for making FPSs slow.Gex-
I dunno about you but some people prefer tactical gameplay over runnin about at 100mph sprayng bullets everywhere

Depends what you mean by tactical. The only real tactical FPS around are ArmA, Operation Flashpoint, Swat 4, Rainbow 6 Raven Shield, and the original Ghost Recon.
Wheras there are other FPS that involve tacts. Its just a true tactical affair.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R is also worth mentioning imo. (although the title is a pain in the *** to write;) )
[QUOTE="RKfromDownunder"]There have been few and sparse TPS games that have achieved critical aclaim.Blommen
Max Payne 1+2, RE4, GeoW, Uncharted, Mass Effect and Giants Citizen Kabuto to name an older one. Not few.
People also forget about socom... which has switching perspectives.. but was really a TPS (FP was ackward)... I'm fairly sure their all 80%+ on GR and sold millions of copies (2 did 4 mil + i think?)
My problem with FPS is why do I always feel like a midget? I'm close to the ground and always shorter then the other characters. Very strange experience.

In the case of Deus Ex...it's like 10 years old. And that is exactly my point. These games are the exception and not the rule. Those are like two games (3 if you include Bioshock) out of what seems like thousands.

ANd why is it when I look down, I have no legs or feet? It doesn't feel like a true first person perspective to me. It feels more like a flying gun game.

Eh?Deus Ex came out in 2000.
But yes they are exeptions these games - thats why they are exeptionally good.
Amoung all the lazy FPS games, there are always those who stand out.
Seriosuly though, if you havent played Deus Ex i implore you to pick it up.

Running 100mph can be tactical if your brain is fast enought to hadle the speed and you know how to shoot. Slower doesn't mean tactical, nor does "camping". Tactical = map control and powerups, making your opponent run where you need to finish him. Camping behind a rock with a sniper rifle isn't tactical.
[QUOTE="BumFluff122"]COD4 feels like a floating arm, you don't cast any shadows. You know that all games are done on a 3D engine these days right? The only difference between a third person shooter and a first person shooter is the graphics and coding of your charcter, everything else is exactly the same aside from the angle of view.
OGTiago
That's just how elite you are.
It's exactly the same game it only provides a different experience from the view of the end user.[QUOTE="michael098"]they are to completely different types of games, its not just the the camera angle that's different, the whole game is designed for the player playing the game from that camera angle. and its stupid to say 3rd person > 1st person, the camera angle has NEVER being the reason for me not liking a game. BumFluff122
Blob 1 shoots blob 2 with bullet shaped bloblet''s using a small gun shaped blobthing. blob 2 dies. Blob 1 cheer and goes after blob 3.
That's the way a 3D engine works.
There are some TPS that are basically fps in third person, but most tps add different gameplay elements (especial with the players movement) that either isn't possible in first person or wouldn't work properly, and what i mean when i say a game is designed around a certain camera angle i mean the level design and stuff like that, sure you could play any fps in third person but if you are going to make a game from the ground up you would design the levels differently depending on whether it was third or first person.

Running 100mph is tactical? No it isn't. Fast games are good because they pump you full of adreneline. Sorry that isn't tactical. Tactical is planning and moving. When it comes to FPS and TPS tactical is moving with your allies to a point you need to get slowly and with a plan while taking out anything that stands in your way. Tactical is not Halo 3 style gameplay where all you do is run and gun and jump 100 meters in the air to rain bullets down on your enemy while getting hit with 15 bullets and still having a near full health bar. Please Log In to post.
