Well I always shop at gamestop, just because I know the manager very well, and want to help with his numbers. Plus, he always hooks me up with whatever freebies they get in there.

But I also have very bad experiences with gamestops. I remember pre-ordering Halo 2, and the guy actually ask me "Did you want to pre-order an extra copy for a friend?" I was speechless.

But the guy wouldn't drop it, it was like there was a midget behind the counter with a gun demanding more pre-orders.

Yup best buy has it in stock! I'm going there after work. I don't think I'll walk into another EBGames again. Those shops are filled with uber geeks anyway, and the sales people are generally unhelpful, unknowledgeable, or flat-out liars it seems.

I remember being one of the first preorders for Mercs 2 at my local gamestop, and later they said that every preorder would come with the art book and beanie.

Then I go in the next day to get my copy, and I don't even get the beanie that was promised to me. I asked the clerk, and you know what he said? "Launch party, man."

I WASN'T INFORMED OF SAID LAUNCH PARTY!!!!

Only way you're guaranteed a copy is by reserving. The companies that distribute the games look at the reservations of all the stores and give either the exact amount reserved or a bit extra based on the amount that other stores in the area have reserved of said game.

I'd just recommend pre-ordering. You can pay it off (you're going to end up paying it anyway) or just put down $5. It's not difficult. Then you're guaranteed a game on launch day.

Puckhog04

Um, the developers and publishers of the games don't determine the allocation of the units. Companies like Best Buy and GS/EB buy a set number of total units. Those copies are then shipped to distribution centers, where those companies (Best Buy and GS/EB) allocate them to their individual stores. GS/EB purposely send only a few more copies than what was preordered to keep their costs down. Larger retail stores like Best Buy can afford to ship tons of extra copies of games to their stores and worry about moving them again later on.

[QUOTE="rockguy92"]What's HMV?AntiType

They sell cds, movies and videogames... I'm pretty sure they are in just about every country.

HMV Group (from the original Gramophone trademark "His Master's Voice") is sorta the Canadian/British version of the USA's fye, though they are not related.

You're in Ottawa too? :)

**** EBGames though, I got a BestBuy and Futureshop down in Kanata Centrum, right by the EBGames there. The Superstore in my area also sells some games.
