To those of you who own an Xbox 360 and another console or consoles (Be it a PS3 or Wii or both) do you find the lack of achievement's to hinder your gaming on those consoles? I myself do because I also own a Wii and a Slim PSP and really while playing games on those systems I find myself rather put off by the fact that there are no achievements. To the point where I have no desire to play them. I mean the system to me is great and rewards gamers for going that extra mile or trying something new or simply beating a game. Sometimes I'll play a game on Wii or PSP do something really cool or complete something really hard and say "That would have been an achievement"

So what do you guys think?

No. Achievements are not a big deal. They really don't add to much.

No way, I've been playing Super Paper Mario on Wii recently, and Orange Box on PC, and neither are boring at all. The only difference is that I'm not willing to go back through on hard mode or go out of my way to collect things if it doesn't go to my gamerscore on XBL.

Yep, I've said that plenty of times.

However, achievements arent a make or break feature for me, they're just a little bonus extra.

Orange Box PC has achievments.

But achievments aren't important, ex, Carry a gnome throughout Episode 2 then launch it in the sky, pretty pointless and a waste of time, and POrtal for destroying security cameras, another waste of time, doing some achievments are just a bore. The only good ones are for beating the game.

Well I WAS playing Super Paper Mario on Wii and got REALLY bored with it. I think having acheivements for the game would have enticed me to finish the gameor help me enjoy it more.

Agreed. The achievements in Crackdown made that game fun. It was just fun experimenting with the world.

Funny thing is I don't either otherwise my gamerscore would be triple what it is now, but I DO end up liking them for the games I do play such as Guitar Hero or Gears of War. Just recently (Cause I only got a PSP and Wii recently) when playing games on other consoles I find them a bit boring and didn't know why.

Achievements AREN't work unless you make them work. See i can play a game like Kameo and just because I beat a boss during the game I get an acheivement and I'm like "Sweet"

Sometimes I DO go out of my way to get certain acheivements because it's fun for me. I like playing a game outside of the box and I'm proud of getting some of my acheivements because I did work for them. To me that brings more replay value to my games and with games costing 60 dollars or more now simply beating the game is not enough anymore.

Maybe not that bad, but yes. I was almost falling asleep playing it and had no desire to go back to playing it after I turned it off. I regret my MLB PowerPro purchase for Wii and same thing with Ratchet and Clank for PSP. That game is at least more fun then Paper Mario but I'm not like MAN I GOTTA PLAY SOME MORE OF THAT GAME! Whereas with Dead Rising i played THAT game day in and day out for 3 months straight trying to get some of the acheivements it offered because I was DETERMINED to do it!

I got in the friends and family Halo 3 beta, a week before everyone with Crackdown entry got in...

True, I understand that. I think the main reason I don't really care for them though is I usually don't play multiplayer besides UT and can't use them as bragging rights. I'd personally rather be rewarded with a special item or something like that.

When I beat Master hand and Crazy hand in Event mode in Ssbm, I felt a sense of acomplishment, without a of message showing up saying "Achievement Unlocked". They're bragging rights, nothing more.

Ditto, it's a nice addition but i dont miss em. When i had a 360 I hardly ever went out of my way to get an achievement. I'm sure if i got bored of the games i had i would've started unlocking achievements to add replay value but i never got to that point.

achievements are only important if you have the type of personality that gets joy from seeing them.

they don't make the games themselves any better. they're just an extra bit of unrelated fluff for those that want them.

But I wouldn't say games are boring without them.

To be fair they are one of the best features this gen, its nice to see the achievement pop up it helps u see how much of the game you've got left to go and some achievements are giving you something to Aim for which can be good such as completing the game on the Hardest level and Finding secrets etc. Otherwise nobody is bothered about content the creators spent time and effort putting there.

I can understand how achievements could help extend the life of a game the same way as unlockables do. You want to complete the entire package and experience all the content that you can. Having a record of that is a good thing , you know what you have achieved and can share them with friends.

The fact that there are people who complete achievements JUST to increase their gamerscore, is pretty sad, you are now playing the game called gamerscore. And the fact that there are people who can only get enjoyment from a game if they know they can get external validation is extremely sad.

Yeah....games are boring and suck without achievements. That's why nobody ever enjoyed playing videogames before the 360 came around. Gaming was practically DEAD until MS invented achievements.

EXACTLY! I'm not obssesed over them (As anyone who looks over my play history will notice) but I DO enjoy them and feel games are the better with them. It's like a pat on the head when you do something right or complete a hard task. It's that little bit of incentive that drives you to do more or play better. I for one get bored now playing games that DO NOT have them which I recently noticed.

Why does someone have to be a geek if they enjoy them, but someone who strives to be the best in say a PC shooter or MMO isn't. Just because YOU do not enjoy them dosen't mean someone who does is a geek.

Exactly.I still play games on my PS3,Wii,PC,ect but I almost always get multiplat games on the 360.Mostly due to achievements.

I still enjoy games on other console but they really do feel like they are missing something.Achievements make some games.I played Tomb Raider Legend about 5 times now to get achievements. If it weren't for achievements I probably wouldn't have finished it at all.

Hmmmm not sure if I should be offended over this statement since I don't rush out to buy a game I KNOW I won't like in order to gain their acheivements, but I WILL play a game I do like more in order to get acheivements and I DO like having a high Gamerscore.

They're a fun little thing, an extra task to aim for. But beyond that, they won't make a game any better. Extend the replay value some? Sure (case in point, my having played through Project Sylpheed about 6 times). But great achievements won't make Hour of Victory good and the lack of achievements doesn't make Twilight Princess any less fantastic.

Yeah....games are boring and suck without achievements. That's why nobody ever enjoyed playing videogames before the 360 came around. Gaming was practically DEAD until MS invented achievements.ZIMdoom

I think you're being a little ridiculous and ignorant, but I was referring to AFTER the achievement system was created because I DID enjoy games BEFORE achievements and have found NOW I enjoy them differently.

this is like if books came with a sticker in the back that said "I read _Name_of_Book__"

doesn't really make the book any better but for ppl that like stickers that's great.
