[QUOTE="actionquake"]I can understand how achievements could help extend the life of a game the same way as unlockables do. You want to complete the entire package and experience all the content that you can. Having a record of that is a good thing , you know what you have achieved and can share them with friends.
The fact that there are people who complete achievements JUST to increase their gamerscore, is pretty sad, you are now playing the game called gamerscore. And the fact that there are people who can only get enjoyment from a game if they know they can get external validation is extremely sad.

Hmmmm not sure if I should be offended over this statement since I don't rush out to buy a game I KNOW I won't like in order to gain their acheivements, but I WILL play a game I do like more in order to get acheivements and I DO like having a high Gamerscore.
There is nothing wrong with being proud of having a high gamerscore, but the score should be the outcome of playing the games you like, it shouldn't be the goal. You sound like someone who treats achievements the right way, some of the other people posting honestly sound like the only reason they play games is to get achievements and increase their score.
