I can understand how achievements could help extend the life of a game the same way as unlockables do. You want to complete the entire package and experience all the content that you can. Having a record of that is a good thing , you know what you have achieved and can share them with friends.

The fact that there are people who complete achievements JUST to increase their gamerscore, is pretty sad, you are now playing the game called gamerscore. And the fact that there are people who can only get enjoyment from a game if they know they can get external validation is extremely sad.

Hmmmm not sure if I should be offended over this statement since I don't rush out to buy a game I KNOW I won't like in order to gain their acheivements, but I WILL play a game I do like more in order to get acheivements and I DO like having a high Gamerscore.

There is nothing wrong with being proud of having a high gamerscore, but the score should be the outcome of playing the games you like, it shouldn't be the goal. You sound like someone who treats achievements the right way, some of the other people posting honestly sound like the only reason they play games is to get achievements and increase their score.

no. Achievements mean nothiung. It just means "Congratulations! You accomplished this." There's nothing special about them.

I'll play any game without them, but if there was a multiplatform game, I'd probably get the Xbox 360 version for the acheivments.

[QUOTE="ZIMdoom"]Yeah....games are boring and suck without achievements. That's why nobody ever enjoyed playing videogames before the 360 came around. Gaming was practically DEAD until MS invented achievements.thegame1980

I think you're being a little ridiculous and ignorant, but I was referring to AFTER the achievement system was created because I DID enjoy games BEFORE achievements and have found NOW I enjoy them differently.

So then you admit the issue isn't with the games, but with YOU. You apparantly feel like you have something to prove. I don't.I enjoy games for the experience they offer. You apparantly don't enjoy games as much as trying to impress strangers on a "leader board".

I have nothing against achievements...I just couldn't care less about them.

after getting over 20k gamerscore, i gave up on achievements, honestly i think they take away fun, most people complete games for achievements, they just run through it to get achievements or play multiplayer just to get achievements, it doesnt matter how much they suck online as long as they can kill e.g. 1 dude with boomshot even if they die 10000 times, they will do it for achievement, alot of people on my friends list beat games and after they have 1000 GS they dont look back at em, i stopped playing gears of war after getting full 1250 GS, i was achievement lover at that time, but after i gave up getting achievements, ive started playing gears again and its fun, now if i was still an achievement sucker like alot of people i would just give up on gears and never look at it again (alot of my friends did give up gears after getting 1250) so thats how i think achievements ruin fun.......my text brick finishes here :)

Perhaps but honestly Super Paper Mario was boring and Ratchet and Clank on PSP is ok to me and I guess it's because of the lack of acheivements. I don't go on LIVE and say "look at me look at me" but I like getting the acheivements. To me that is fun. It's apparent most people don't care for them, but I for one do.

Yea but the multiplayer in Gears wasn't all that great anyway. I see your point though. I'm talking about singlep layer games mainly. Where the ONLY thing it offers is the story and the game. Those without acheivements tend to bore me alot faster since I really have nothing to shoot for. I mean the game better be HELLUA good for me to enjoy without acheivements.

That's YOUR opinion. Super Paper Mario to me is BORING. I keep using that game cause it's really the only one I've played since having the 360 besides Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters on PSP which is ok but I don't find myself eager to play it daily like I did other games on my 360.

Your opinion is NOT fact and I would appreciate you not acting like it was.
