They are fun, both offer coop (off and online) and have enough of a gameplay base to sustain themselves even when the graphics have worn off. For better or for worse, the fact that many elements from both games are copied (not that these elements havent been done before, rather that these 2 games mainstreamed those elements) by other games, the critic scores, and number of players online at any given time prove that yes, these two games actually are that good.....
yes they arereally good gameswith fantastic single player and MP. Usually I never play SP in games more then once no matter how good it is (unless its splinter cell good) so i dont really care about replay value
Yes those games really are that good, and SP has replay value for all those games this gen (Halo 3, Gears 1, Gears 2) not just multiplayer. You can do co-op either online or offline for both of them as well.
Gears of War really is that good, believe it or not. :)

yeah, i agree. good to see both franchises might be getting a shake-up though. Halo: ODST is a step in the right direction, being that Halo 3 feels real stale right about now, Gears aswell. I enjoyed GeoW2's campaign, but it didn't have the same effect on me as the first one. Not even close. At least Cliffy B said he wants to add RPG elements into Gears 3 (he did say that right?)

Good production values, that much is sure. But for instance Dark Sector isn't much worse than Gears if you ask me. As for Halo, it's also not the best FPS there is IMO. I never played Halo online thought which supposedly is lots of fun.

Halo online is by miles the best thing about it. The SP is pretty ordinary.
Millions of people still play these games onilne, still after years of release (well not gears 2 but it probably will still in a year) so I believe thats a testament to their replayability online. Theirs definitely a steep learning curve if you start late though, cause you will get beaten into the ground if you have never played online before and its your first time. This is the way it is with most online shooters though.
Of course. That's why owners of other consoles have been waiting for "killers", and well, they've yet to get them. If you like them, that's up to you, but to deny how good they are, is well, to deny reality, which happens a lot here.

What???? Have you ever played these games online before??? Say what you want about the games themselves, but been a player of both of them I can tell you, you definitely don't need the new maps to play. Especially Gears 2 where most people play horde mode or Coop.

No you dont. I ahvent bought a single GeoW map and i play it every day. halo on the other hand, ive bought all of them. Thats truley the best MP game on xbox. Playing with your friends on forge is awesome.

You make it sound like your forced to buy new maps to play the original maps online, more than 85% of the multiplayer is still the original game types that came with the game, more times than any the original maps are funner than the new ones.

While I think they are both great games, I am currently very disenchanted with Bungie as a company since you have to spend $15 extra to play anything other than social slayer online. Considering how much money they made they have no reason to cripple the online options for players who thought their $60 meant they got the whole game.
