If you buy the Xbone, Microsoft is able to monitor you and your relatives every moment you are in the living room and collect data that they could use to sell to advertisers or that can even be used by the government. Currently the Xbone:

  • Has the ability to identify individual people who are in the room by name (and will ask them if it does not have there name on file)

  • Wants to be the center of your world. Wants all your media (and possibly internet) to pass through it

  • Has the ability to monitor heart rate and facial expressions

  • Has vocal recognition and assumedly full on speech-to-text capability.

"The Kinect camera is capable of scanning a room and using its facial recognition software to detect foreign users. If Kinect detects someone it does not recognize, it then audibly asks this person to identify themselves. Once this is done, the Kinect saves the information to the console"

Do your rights and privacy really mean nothing to you? Forget used games and being always online for a second, what about basic morality?

What rumors? Kinect is a rumor? I think the question of wether Microsoft WILL use the data collected by Kinect to their advantage is irrelevant. The fact is, they CAN do so.

Do you have a phone with a camera on it.  You worried Apple or Google spying on you?  Like I said.  More crying.

Are you not worried about your privacy with the PS3 eyetoy?

Or your smart phone?

Or giving out information over the internet?

I don't use the eyetoy and I don't recall it ever saving user data it collects on the system. Of course, my console still works without the eyetoy plugged in.

Since when did the PS4 require the eyetoy be plugged in to work? The entire issue here is that the surveillance system microsoft has implemented CANNOT be turned off. It is always watching, always listening.

Will that work? If that works, why would Microsoft even create the requirement that the Kinect must be connected to the system for the console to function? I have a feeling that if a human isn't within vision of Kinect it wont even run. That is why it asks a foreign user to identify himself and record their info.

That is irrelevant. A product released on the market under no circumstance should be violating your right to privacy. They are going to have a lot of trouble in the European Union, where the law states that any monitoring system must have the ability to be turned off.

Its not that they want to watch or listen to you play BF4 in your underpants, its ripe for abuse. It could facilitate the restriction of content based on the number of people in front of the console etc.

Hope you dont like smart phones. cell phone companies have access to your exact location, who you've called and every text message you've ever sent. What a gross invasion of privacy. Lets not even get started on all the apps that ask for credit card and personal info. Fact is, you should assume that your privacy is already at risk all the time in the world we live in now.

People are overreacting to the kinect stuff just like all the other X1 things. I prefer to wait and see how everything works out instead of blowing my load to early and making a big deal out of nothing.

Your fridge will collect the type of food you store and pass it on to advertisers who will then advertise you the food you like. It goes on and on. Where does it say anything about shipping with a camera? And that is besides the point. It won't be as invasive as Kinect's.

How else are you supposed to tell the xbox "xbox on" if the Kinect can be turned off? Nope, it is always running. Can you send me some proof that Apple can access my personal info without my permission?

Either way it is not the same. The Kinect is a SURVEILLANCE system. It is literally a corporate camera in your home watching and listening to you.

The camera can be used to log in, for walkthrough videos and to taunt opponents in multiplayer, and will recognize where users are sitting and change the display accordingly during split-screen games."

Where does it say anything about shipping with a camera? And that is besides the point. It won't be as invasive as Kinect's.

This article is about what the PS4 is going to ship with...

When I access google maps on my cellphone, it asks permission to get my current location. I GIVE it permission to do so. I cannot stop the Kinect from monitoring me as it is now. If I disconnect it, my system will not run. That is not acceptable.

I worked for ATT and could access anyone's full name, address, driver's license number, social security, call log and a whole bunch of other shit whenever I wanted. That means anyone that has their cellphone can have all their info looked up by thousands of people at any time.

Yep, privacy is paranoia. So why don't you do a live stream of your house for everyone at your workplace to see? After all, privacy ain't that important right?
