im no fanboy, i appreciate and play all systems, but i cant help but question microsoft's plan.

wen the 360 first arrived, it seemed as though it stood for the hardcore gamer. with releases like halo 3, gears of war, condemned, gamers went to the microsoft side for their hardcore fix. this proved successful for microsoft because the wii catered to the casual and the ps3, wen it was released, seemed to have alot less support for coming in late.

however now that sony have been gaining more and more momentum and the wii contains to dominate sales, it seems as though microsoft are trying too much to please the casual fan aswell as the hardcore. their first plan as a hardcore system seems to be slowly being replaced by the casual market, what with the rumoured motion control, ALOT more wii-esque family games, and continuing to rely on alredy set franchises (gears of war, halo) instead of making new IP's for the hardcore.

so my question is are microsoft tryin to please too many, but instead are failing to establish their own personality?

the rumoured motion controldamedude123

There's rumored motion control for both systems.

If Sony doesn't already have motion control planned, then you can bet they will after MS shows theirs. And you can also bet that they won't release it with a bunch of new hardcore IPs.

Yes I do think they have an eye on the Wii and want to "steal" some of it's marketshare by pushing games that appeal more to the non-gamer. They would be dumb no to try it. I don't think they'll abandon the rest of the people tho, which it doesn't seem like they do. That would be a dumb move as well. I think they rely too much on 3rd parties as well. That might be a case of playing save on their part.

I'll put it simple as possible. To be succesful you need to aim at as many people as possible. Why bite off your nose to spite your face? Every company broadens there horizon at some point and aim at as many peoples pockets. Nintendo do it and so does Microsoft and Sony. Theyre a company 1st and need to make money.

The 360 is like the other consoles? Woah man. I mean, consoles always have to be totally different. The SNES and Genesis are polar opposites.

im not saying the consoles all need to be different, it just seems as though microsoft are starting to change their first intended plan midway through a generation. and yes, i know business comes first, but i think instead of them focusing on every possible gamer as a consumer, they would get alot better penetration / support / profit if they focused mainly on one set of audience.

What's wrong with MS wanting more variety on the 360? There is something for everyone, which is something to be happy about, and not questioned.

The question you should be asking is: Why can't the other two consoles be the same?

no matter how you twist it a hardcore games comes down too essentially one thing, natural difficulty. Difficulty can obviously mean various things, many times an intuitive hard game can come across as none hardcore for that very reason. I also say natural difficulty because putting a game on the hardest setting does not make it hardcore. The entire concept of hardcore, somehow here is considered a good thing but the people on these boards are in and of themselves a minority (look no further then the wii for proof). Most mmorpgs strive to be as intuitive as possible. Just because someone donates a large chunk of time to something does not make it hardcore (for example if I play plants and zombies for a long time, for completionists's sake, that will by no means b e considered hardcore). all in my opinion obviously.
