i always see the comparision of mic usage between XBL & PSN , they say PSN is worse because of less players using mics. imo its not needed in most games anyways , im rather annoyed by most mic users , the ones i noticed using a mic are mostly either some screaming kids (it hurts my ears, nothing personal against kids) or someplayers listening horrible music and forcing er'body else unless you mute em , thats not helping the team at all...

Sure it's needed in clan wars because thats another level of game but in public its enough to watch what your team does , look at the radar etc. to be a good team and have fun, i even have a mic (in ps3eye) but mostly prefer not using it because it records permanently not only if i wanna say something ,

what do u think ?

It really depends on who you are. I'm a very social person so I have to be talking to someone. If I'm not talking to people on xbox, I'll be talking to them on msn messenger, or texting them.

I use a mic for co-op otherwise I mute everybody. I wish Demon's Souls allowed mics but I understand why it doesn't.

no they are not neccesary and if you game on pc you can still communicate without them so not as desired as on consoles where its the only way to communicate. Of course mic is the best way to communicate with your time in real time but not necessary.

It helps. If I blast some noob with my shotty from behind cover in uncharted 2 I want to rub it in his face. Too bad there's only 1-2 mics each game :(

I find them distracting to use and when I have one on, I'm actually not as good at the game.

Pubs? Lol, no. It's never bad to have them, however.

Competition? Yes, though some types of players know how to work in a team effectively with minimal voice communication.

You've never been on a team with mics? What games do you play and on what format??!? :? I really hate it when I'm on a (mostly) silent team.

Depends alot on what game it is, and how it is used.

In more arcade type shooters they are not really needed, what needs to be conveys can often be done through the voice commands.

In games that has more of a tactics element, then it IS very much a must, or atleast it helps alot.

And then it comes down to how it is used...

A sniper, who conveys what he sees of enemies to the team, is often more devastating then his bullets, soptting groups, and where they are, and if he can see what they are planning, such a person can often win a match for his team, even if he himself were not to ever engage the enemy.

Otherwise, quick short warnings and locations, and requests of help by certain people or weapons, are the best way to go.

A continous stream of voice chat never benefitted, and those who can not keep calm, and have a good overview of a situation should never use them in the first place.

Most of the time Mics are more of an annoyance then a benefit, but when you get people who use a mic well (and makes sure it works with as little white noice as possible), a mic can be incredibly devastating.

Tactical games really need them. Bad company 2 and Killzone 2 I really like to talk and make gameplans with other people. Sometimes when i play MW2 and Halo I'm more of a lonewolf player but not all of the time. Mics are the best way to play for me and I'm glad my 360 came with one. But so many people are in party chat on 360 =(. In MW2 I'm glad there is no party chat support!

They aren't necessary, but I'd rather play with people with mics. Yeah there's idiots that talk sh#t, play music in the background, etc..., but that's why there's a mute option in games. I won't add people to my friend's list that don't play with a mic.

On 360 with Halo 3 and COD4 I'd say at least half fo people are talking? It's very handy, even basic tactics will wipe out the other team. You can all stick together, share good weapons, operate vehicles together, etc. Of course you can do this without mics but it's much harder to co ordinate!

Nope. Typing goes fast so, i don't think there are many games that would 'require' a mic.

I don't use a mic and I'd rather other people didn't speak in their's either. I usually just end up muting them anyways.

Same here, I hate talking so I usually mute my mic and I hate hearing what most people are talking about so I usually make it so I don't hear them unless I'm playing on a team full of my friends then I would leave my mic on.

In team based games it's basically a requirement, try playing Bad Company 2 as attackers without mics, it's crazy man.

In Halo, BC2, MW2, SOCOM, Gears, KZ2 or any other team based shooter, the team that wins most often is the one that communicates. I don't see how mics could not be seen as essential.

In RTS I use KB. In MMO, KB for dungeon, mic for raid. In FPS DM, nothing, no comms. In FPS Objective, you need mics. Seriously. But you need "party chat." You need chat with friends, with your team, not with the bozos that like to micspam and grief.

mic + party system = AMAZING! i usually only use my mic when play with friends that's i've met in person, it really makes the game much more enjoyable to me. playing multiplayer without a mic is kind of like playing a computer with a human brain imo.

no.

people say XBL is worse in terms of people who are just rude.

then people who support XBL bring up that the MIC isn't standardized with every PS3 sold, which contributes to the lack of said rude people.
