I see no reason why. L4D is a fantastic game and more L4D is also fantastic. "But I paid FULL PRICE for L4D and releasing a sequel a year later also for full price is milkage I say, MILKAGE!" Now hold on, remember GTA3? I paid full price for that game and it was amazing. Then a year later I paid full price for Vice City and it was equally amazing. The way I see it, as long as they don't skimp on the content for L4D2, I'm fine with it.

Could you hush up. We do not need another flame war. Go to the steam forums or L4D1/L4D2 gamespot forums to discuss this.

L4D2 will be good but there was NO reason and NO demand from fans for a sequel.

So, let me get this straight: A game is released to near-unanimous praise from both critics and gamers alike. The game is a huge success in every way, commercial and critical. The developer, who has a long history of high quality, announces plans to make a sequel... And it's a bad thing.

Great timing. I'm about to go buy one of the game with Source SDK so I can play the Neotokyo mod which comes out today.

So ya boycott? not really.

It would be like Valve releasing TF3 one year after TF2.

Valve justified the full price tag on L4D with the statement that they would support L4D with lots and lots of new content such as new campaigns. That is what grinds peoples gears my friend.

WIth online games people wanna know that the dev. will continue to support it with updates, DLC, etc. If a sequal is released it is assumed that the dev would focus his attentionson the sequal leaving the adapters of the first left with the deilema to stay with it or move on. Online gaming is all about community and dev. support. Not to mention some people felt that the features in the sequal are things that could or should have been in the first.

But hey at the end of the day its a game and a year is a long time to be playing the same game.

Well knowing Valve, they'll probably constantly delay the game and we might not see L4D2 until 2010-2011:P

Not to mention that, for how awesome Valve's games are, they never meet their deadlines. Besides, not all that much has been revealed. My guess? People are just "boycotting" because of TF2's updates and content releases.

So, it's bad that they released a sequel when they did, as opposed to waiting until the fans were demanding one? You know, sequels weren't originally meant as something to take advantage of fans.

The problem is the fact it's a game built around multiplayer. It takes a while before large amounts of people become sick of it and want a sequel especially when the SDK is out. L4D 2 has no reason to be releases this soon. 2 years fine, 1 year hell no. GTA is a single player experience. When your done the campaign you want more. It's not the same for L4D.

Basically this. If you create a sequel, the multiplayer base will be split which will totally kill the game. Not to mention they basically promised a mod friendly game that they would give tons of support too, which was an outright lie. We have had 1 update that added 1 map, and I think they're just bearly adding support for moded/custom maps.
