Are the Xbox 360 and PS3 just wanna be PC's?

What do you call a PC that runs Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops in below-HD resolutions with lower graphical settings? A Xbox 360 or PS3!

What do you call a PC that runs Crysis 2 in below-HD resolutions with graphical settings less than "Hardcore"? A Xbox 360 or PS3!

I was talking to one of engineering classmates who now works at Microsoft and he was saying that they consider the Xbox 360 as "essentially a PC" that is VASTLY less powerful. If you really think about it's quite true.

yes they are but nt for the reasons you think. consoels EVOLVED into wannabee's they didnt start off that way

While a console is factually a gimped PC (compared to a modern PC), they aren't wannabe because they are closed systems developed to play games only.

MS/Sony lock down the system, you can't upgrade anything, and you are spoon fed whatever they want to dump on you ...

so a gimped PC yes, but they aren't wannabe, if they were upgradeable and you can install whatever you want on them - then yes though would 'wannabe'.

Every console is a entertainment computer. The 360 and PS3 use different hardware architecture to the one found in PCs (except for the GPUs which are similar to what the PC market had) so no, they're not PCs. The console you're talking about is the first Xbox which really was a PC in a console case.

All PC games don't work for all PCs. All Wii games work for all Wiis. All PS3 games work for all PS3s. All 360 games work for all 360s.

All console games were built for all whichever console they are built for. PC games are not built for a specific PC in mind.

I call BS - I've seen that exact issue in Crysis multiple times (and BC2) - I upgraded monitors twice over 3 years (same PC, so same config) and I had that issue each time. Maybe I set the resolution to minimum, and then back to native, I suggest trying that.

If these minor hassles aren't worth a vastly superior experience, I can't argue, its all subjective.

Pro-tip: when in doubt delete C:\users\[username]\Games\[game]

I wouldn't call them wanna-be PC's at all. I like to call them media hubs.

consoles were a superb platform for gaming long before they adopted any features similar to the PC (like the SNES, PS2, ect). they never needed them.

I dont see a problem in consoles taking things from the PC and I dont know why you guys do. if anything, it should make PC fanboys happy
