For prices You can thank the taxes.
For healthcare and a more carefree life You can thank taxes.
Getting things later is not always a bad thing.
Europe usually gets improved versions of games.
Like actual PAL versions.
We get things later, because Europe is being complicated on small scale.
Different laws, different languages, different responsible people, different markets, many different everythings.
Europe doesn't have a very positive image to outsiders.
Neither do any of the other continents.
These images are always incorrect, and usually show the envy of outsiders, or are based on personal negative experiences.
For example, i come from a very free, passive, forgiving, carefree country and its people have a reputation of being "sly and incurably mean". Well thank You world.

KungfuKitten

May I ask, where do you come from?

UK.

Sure. But i can't really answer You can i? Since that would be a bit "incurably mean" to the others who live here.
Fine, i am secretly a bit proud of the incurably mean part :P
Though i'm sure there are enough real bad things people say, it was just an example.
I'm from the netherlands, what about You?

[QUOTE="SpigleyMcCheese"]I dunno. I'm getting really annoyed with it. The PS3 here is TWICE the price of the U.S. one. Pretty much the same with the Xbox and games. It's especially annoying when we get less content on things like Xbox Live and yet pay more for it.reddjohnd

America is the largest, (Or maybe asian in video game market) so yes alot of "stuff" or "Things" get released first.....

Also Americans like to spend....I mean the amount of Malls and Ads on tv, wow.....never been to europe, not sure what's it like...

-Reggaeton-

see now thats the problem you have just bundled Europe into one big country. Here in the UK we are very big consumers I would say probably just as big as Americans the britishpopulation is £7 trillion in the red but that is a stark contrast to the rest of Europe.

not many British people consider them selves European at all, we haven't embraced the euro and the rest of Europe resents us.

I dont have any thing against you brits. I hate france for some reason, they are so damn arrogant.

What makes you say that? Have you ever met a French person?

I don't have any sales figures but the reason you guys (Europe and Australia) get the shaft might be because video games are not 'hot items' there like they are in NA and Japan.

Th answer is very simple. Australia and europe, although fully developed economically, pay more because of the high government taxation levels. We pay more for petrol (gas for you americans), we pay more for video gaming and everything else that is imported from overseas.

These taxes are necessary to provide the high quality healthcare systems and other welfare perks we enjoy. Compared to the usa we live in socialist countries. The government milks you but looks after you very well. That is a good and bad thing, good in the sense that unlike america, you won't find over 10% homeless on the streets, and bad because we have to pay premium price for all those insignificant luxuries like video games and other entertainment luxuries which are all priviliges and not rights.

One thing bugs me and thats the high petrol prices, they always seem to go up, and while we should be paying around 80cents/litre, we end up pay $1.30/litre due to taxes.

Gangans

Dude, The Netherlands has the highest gas price in the world. We pay euro 1.50 per litre.

But in the Netherlands most people can just decide to stop using gas. Someone studying economy would say cars are one of the worst investments to make.
I just don't have a car and it's saving me sooooooo much money it's not even funny.
And soon we will even get money for not being in traffic jams :D

It's unfair to say that Americans shouldn't complain about the price they pay for their PS3. Their price is still expensive (although it's dropped), just not as much as other areas.

1. The taxes higher the prices. But we get so much for the taxes that its worth it.

2. The games are usually delayed because of the translation. All PAL games are usually translated (in game) from English into 4 different languages. Those being: German, Frensh, Spanish and Italian.

That's a really pain in the ass for those European countires (like Sweden) where people actually are preatty good at English. Not even mentioning the translation of all the game manuals, which can be translated for every country in Europe.

We also get a delay when they convert the games from NTSC to PAL.

3. The Europeans almost buys as many games/consoles as the Americans. So that Europe would be a smaller market isn't really true.

Europe are the largest video game market in the world... We spend tonnes and tonnes of money on videogames.

The reason we don't get things first? Microsoft are American. Sony and Nintendo are Japanese. Simple as that. It's a stupid allegiance to their own country thing.

It doesn't usually annoy me so much, but sometimes it feels pretty ridiculous. Oh well.

Its not as simpe as "we pay more, its not fair." Economies are completely different. We all earn a heck of a lot more in the UK than in the US, for example. Everything you buy reflects the way the economy is structured. If your yearly salary is 11% more than that of the country were a certain product was made, expect to pay 11% more than you would in that country.

Otherwise we'd all have too much money, we'd be buying too much stuff, investing in stupid things and you'd have another wall street crash on your hands.

Considering it takes the whole European Union to match USA alone (not taking in account Canada) economicly, it would make sense to care more about North America.0starter0

The European Union is not the whole of Europe, just like the United States of America are not the whole of North America. I think that kills your argument.
