I understand why to some its cool to hate the king, and lets face it, Modern Warfare has been the king of the mountain pretty much since launch. The story and huge cinematic gameplay, level design, multiplayer, graphics, the whole package screams outstanding on every level, heck even the sales are insanely through the roof (not that sales dictate greatness). That said, MW gets a lot of guff and complaints like any "insanely popular" game in our hobby would. Its the whole "sellout" mentality. Its not "underground" cool enough anymore, but be that as it may, pound for pound, in what encompases the entire package of a game in todays day and age, is Modern Warfare the best at this point?

"Best" is a matter of opinion. The multiplayer is fun, no doubt, but the game doesn't introduce much of anything new.

I wasn't given the authority to decide what is best. My favorite is Halo series/Half Life series.

I thought its campaign was strong but far from the best this generation, Bioshock and Half-Life 2 + Episodes did better. It is a very good combination of good campaign and good multiplayer, so it certainly deserves a place among this generation's best.

The single player had a few pretty cool single player levels. But to many were forgettable and hurt the experience and ended to quickly. The multiplayers good but the maps could have used more variety and some level just were sloppily constructed

CoD4 campaign was horrible. Multiplayer was much stronger - but in my opinion it's far outclassed by Halo 3. I also think Halo 3 had the better campaign mechanics, although I'll agree CoD4 had an Hollywood action movie flare to it.

Not the best of gen, but sure will be a great game. CoD franchise (at least the one made by IW) is always great. Theres alot of hate on here for CoD MW2, but if ur a fan of the franchise you shouldnt let them stopping you from playing the game. I personally hyped for the game.

You could say that MW1 multiplayer and Uncharted 2 are about even. MW1 has the deeper perk system and it can be very fun, but UC2 feels more fresh now a days with the vertical gameplay (don't u just being able to run around a level and do so much awesome things like ledge grabs and and snapping necks?) and brings together the whole package in it's overall polish (graphics, explosive sound, level design, graphics). MW1 falls victim to being another FPS (a great one). UC2 just feels much more fresh now and it happens to be an excellent game that's more balanced.

Sigh, ok can you people stop pretending the reason why we hate a popular game is because its popular? When in reality its baffeling as to why its that popular in the first place. A similar concept but its not. Story - Typical B-Grade a Modern Warfare film, im sorry are you impressed with the US Guy being nuked, the sniper mission and the ending? riiiight both interesesting and new? ... "Cinematic Gameplay" What? being on rails half the time? I cant believe Cinematic and Gameplay can even be connected, because as far as aI saw they sacrificed clever gameplay mechanics for constant respawning enemies, invisiable walls and effortless rail scenes..... all flash little substance. Level Design - joke right? .... typical shooter all over in that department, didnt stand out in anyway whatsoever, the respawns also effect my decision on this. Multiplayer - Its addictive and fun for a very short period, the mechanics are too noobish for me personally to take seriously, not as a bad as a Halo mind you, but I prefered COD:WAW multiplayer for a few reasons: 1) Guns/hitboxes were smaller, the guns wernt as easy to kill with and therefore required alittle more skill. 2) Artillery was much weaker than Airstriks and less spamable.... again a plus. 3) Dogs were more skill based than the auto-aiming helicopter that cut you down when it cant even see you. 4) More variety in maps and modes. 5) Zombie mode ... out of place yet adds a bit of "unusual fun" to it. Lets face facts heres, CoD Took RPG elements of MUCH BETTER SHOOTERS like Wolfenstien: Enemy Territory, BAttlefield series ect and just dumbed them down to the point where a toddler can camp, get a killing streak and clap his hands together in delight. THOSE are my reasons for not liking this average repeated game with completely dumbed down in pretty much every department gameplay sequal.

Don't take my word for it, trust the critics, who gave Mario Galaxy and Bioshock more game of the year's than Modern Warfare. Those games were exclusives as well.

It wasn't even 2007's best FPS, let alone the best overall game this gen. I admittedly didn't put much time into it's multiplayer, but it's single-player campaign was incredibly half-assed. It was way too short, way too scripted, and had a pretty lame story tacked on. After all the hype surrounding the game, I expected a lot more. What I got was a fairly by-the-numbers experience with nothing all that exciting to offer.

No matter how much people love a game, praise it, play it, buy it, it scores high in reviews, developer improves it, there will always be haters.

Personally? I can't wait to throw a knife into someone online. :)

Its hadly the best shooter. Its not even as good as COD1 in the regard to singleplayer. The multiplayer is standard MP recycled, with unlocks, small customisation and perks. Eh.

Im surprised at all the hate for modern warfare. I mean the game is oviously not something revolutionary or new, but it got one thing right. The fun aspect. no matter what you say, i really think the mp is a blast, no matter the technical level design, or whatever you bash it with. It's fun to play, over and over again. And isint that what made all the great games... great? Doing something fun over and over again. Look at starcraft as an example. No doubt a revolutionary game for the rts genre. Even though you can play the same game of starcraft as you did 11 years ago, it's still as fun as the first time you played.

Condsidering your username, isin't that what all nintendo games are? Zelda? Mario? And don't get me wrong, i have a wii myself and ive been playing ninty's games since the nes days. But thats what a sequel is, an upgrade on the original. Ever played a sports game? exactly the same. But it's fun nonetheless.

Couldnt agree more, but seriously level design is good but they could make them a bit bigger and use less artificial limits such as objects in the middle of the road.

COD4 was a pretty good game even though I didnt care for the perk based multiplayer. The reason people hate on MW2 is because they've been poisoned by the non stop flow of adoration constantly showered on this game that's been happening since it was announced. Since the fanboys can't shut up about it, it sends a negative vibe to people who may not be in the MW cult. Just think how annoying Halo fanboys have been, take the people that hated halo, give them a copy of COD4 and watch a new annoying fanboy tribe spout up from nowhere. The weird thing is that I've been playing COD since the PC, and only when it hit consoles in a big way, did we start getting these rediculous fanboys running thier mouths.

I loved MW, but MW2 looks like a crappy expansion. It has the same exact graphics, the gameplay looks like it will be exactly the same, they gimped the multiplayer to make it like the concoles, and they are charging $59.99 for it... count me out.

thank you... Im not crazy here. Yes the overall "story" wasn''t mass effect, but it drove the game and was of the highest production value. It wasn't citizen kane, but it was really good for a militery first person shooter.

actually aside from the lack of Ds the game looks significantly improved. i was even going to tolerate the $60 price tag. taking out DS was too much though.
