the ps 2 was reliable more than anyone gives credit for. every ps 2 that has went on someone it could have been fixed within 10 mins. all you had to do was clean the lens track then the ps 2 would have worked like new.
the 360 not so easy they die completely.
the ps 2 is alot relable than people relize there systems does not fail it just needs to be cleaned. so if anyone out there have there old ps 2's look on-line to find how to clean the ps 2. then i bet every ps 2 you have wether it is 4 of them ect. they have 4 working ps 2 to trde in for games.

yep and void any future warrenty on that unit, oh and mess it up? and your ps2 is pernamently dead unless you replace the laser assembly.
Dont act like the ps2's problems were so easy to fix they weren't I had over 10 different laser lens cleaning discs and not a single one worked, i had 5 ps2's fail on me the slim one i have now is the only one that has lasted.
360 has a comprehensive warrenty system, the ps2 did not sony denied all problems with the system till they were sued into the floor and lost and thats a fact.
In todays climate of more and more fanboys being on the net the problems with a system are overblown when it comes to the 360, the ps2 was the least reliable system.
Right now I would say that the 360 is in a close 2nd to the PS2. Those things just broke like mad.WasdieI've had my PS2 since Launch no problems with it...I got my 360 probably a week or so agao no problems as of yet.
i would like to indroduce you to an old enemy of mine...mine...mine....mine....mine....*ZZTTTTT*

I still get that every once in a while. :x
[QUOTE="Espada12"][QUOTE="scottiescott238"]I had 3 ps2's die , and after 2 years i had my first 360 die a few days back.
the difference is, most of the 360's that die will get fixed for free for 3 years.

To be honest that's pretty irrelevant. I've had my 360 RROD twice now and it's getting annoying.
It is relevent,
what would you rather
3 ps2's die and have to pay each time
or 3 360's die, but get them back within a week and fixed for free.
Looking back at it , sony treated ps2 owners like crap
When it say it's irrelevant I mean to the topic at hand. That's like saying 1 xbox breaking down that you have to pay for is worse than a PS2 breaking 3 times that you didn't, in terms of reliability.

mine just died yesterday!

don't forget that once you have one fixed, the 3 year warranty starts over for that repaired 360. :)
no it doesn't and it only covers RROD not other failures
lol are ppl actually trying to convince themselves that the ps2 had a higher failure rate. Fail. 360 is the most unreliable console ...ever. I don't get why people don't convince ms to fix the issue rather than give a 3 year warranty. Well soon, ppl will be buying faulty hd tvs with warranties. It's all good.eklineage
They did, they completely redesigned the problematic hardware (GPU, CPU) into the "Jasper" model, which reportedly will solve the problem. The Jasper isn't out yet, but should be out in the next week or so. It's not like they're continuing to manufacure the faulty design. They warrantied the faulty design for 3 years, went back to the drawing board, and started manufacturing the Jasper.

I'd definitely say yes, and the PS2 may be in second but I definitely think it's trailing far behind the 360's in terms of numbers.
I've had the same PS2 since launch and it's working absolutely fine still.
360 however - 2 years and 3 models down already, ridiculous.
Altough a lot of people badmouth the 360 for its poor reliability, I would have to say the PS2. I had one of the older bigger models and the stupid thing would always suck in so much dust through the back that it would clog up the laser reader and couldn't read any discs. So I had to take it apart while voiding the warrenty in the process and clean it out. My God, I must have had to do that like 20 times in the six years that I had it before it finally s*** the bed. After that I bought one of the smaller models and haven't had any problems with it since...and people say the 360 is so horrible....mine only had RROD once. Called Microsoft and they fixed it for free and haven't really had any problems with it since.
Yes. Ps2 didn't have a 33% failure rate. 360 is the worst console ever In terms of hardware, this is not even debatable. In terms of games it's up their with the best.Kratos_OMEGA
This is the truth.
PS2 only seemed bigger because it sold a TON more than X360 and it was only the disc drive failure problem for PS2. X360 has disc drive problems, RRoD problem which is basically a design problem, and one of the most annoying, eatting my games problem (I've lost 3 games with that animal eatting my games)

Just like everyother chip set was suppost to solve the problem...
I bought my PS2 in 2001. 7 years and still working.
most reliable console is the Original GameBoy, I bought my GameBoy in 1990, 18 years, and it is still working. its been thrown off the balcony, rolled down the stairs 100 times, and it is still working.
MightyMuna
Well it is built like the 360's power brick :P
the OLD 360 models are but not the new ones
i would say the ps2's could be pretty unreliable. with th early ones they stopped reading the blue backed discs and that was because Sony cheaped out.... YES all you Sony fanboys! they cheaped out. i found out the hard way.
also there was a guy in my school and while his game was saving on the screen it said "do not remove the memory card" and he took it out and the ps2 started smoking and there were flames.
